Cool air from the cracked window greeted my wet flesh when I exited the steam-filled bathroom. I pranced across the room toward the open window before I slid it closed. I opened my drawer. It was difficult for me to put away the eccentric smile that was plastered across my plush lips when I thought of my blissful slumber.
I pulled a pair of acid washed jeans from the bottom shelf and a graphic crop top that had the superwoman symbol plastered on the front.
I looked at the bed side stand. My phone was glowing as it danced across the nightstand top. Stumbling to catch the call, I grabbed my phone and answered without acknowledging the caller ID.
Hello?"
"Hey what's up?" The familiar male voice had a hint of happiness in it.
"Hey Eric?" I was ecstatic about hearing a good friend's voice.
"What are you doing? I had to call to make sure you were not dead or something." He toyed with me.
"Nope, I'm still breathing."
"Good." He exhaled a breath.
I parted my lips to begin a conversation before my bedroom door burst open. I glanced up in a rage until I noticed the familiar red head that had slipped in.
"Come on, I'm hungry, let's go out." She tugged at my sleeve.
"Sshh." I showed her that I was currently tied up on the phone. .
"Who is it? Your boyfriend? Let me talk to him." Her curiosity heightened as she tried to chime in on the conversation.
"GottogoEricbye." I quickly blurted out before I discounted the line.
"What a bitch." She laughed. "Come on, I want to go out to eat."
"I will meet you downstairs."
"Okay."
Shifting from foot to foot, I stared up at the menu options. My indecisive mind left me to pick anything.
I backed away and stood beside Brittany as she ordered half of the menu. We decided to sit in to eat. Fast food had our food finished and us at our table in no time.

"You mind as well eat the paper too." I watched Brittany practically destroy the wrapper to get to her food.
"Oh shut up, I told you I was hungry."
I began to eat. However, it was hard to ignore the questions that were floating around in my mind. I wanted to ignore the need to ask but I just could not throw it away.
"Brittany, before you stuff another burger down your throat, I have a question." I stopped her momentarily.
"Sure."
"Before, you said the Alpha wasn't always the asshole we know him to be now. What happened?"
She sat her food down. I guess this was going to be an interesting topic.
"Okay. Maybe three years ago, we visited Logan City for a meeting with another pack to discuss problems about the recent hunter attacks. He went there for the meeting, however he found more then he thought he would. He happened to find his mate..."
His mate? So where is she now? Did something bad happen to her? Questions were nipping at me.
"Did she belong to the other pack?"
"No, she was actually... human. Alpha Xavier approached her and asked her out and she agreed to go out on a few dates with him. I don't know why but he did a little digging around and searching, trying to find some information on her and he did."
"So what did he find?" I asked, practically sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation.
"That's what I don't know. We all knew he found something horrible but nobody know what exactly. When we questioned him, his answer was never one we liked. In his eyes, we could see the sadness when we questioned him."
"Wow."
"Yeah so whatever he found, caused him to reject her." Another burger hovered near her lips.
"What was her name?" I found myself interested.
"Uumm I think it was Farrah or something."
I leaned back in my chair. Her explanation was one reason as to why Alpha Xavier was the heartless fool he was today.

"Wow." I respired.
"Yeah, but that's not all." Her eyes had lowered which tried to hide the sadness that took over.
"What else?"
"About two years ago, we had a hunter attack a few miles away on a fellow pack member." She sighed out. "Her name was Emily. She was Xavier's older sister."
It felt as though my heart descended to the pit my stomach when my eyes widened.
"It was hard on all of us, but it's like it took a part of Xavier too."
I felt sort of sorry him. I felt sorry for this pack. Her death obviously took a toll on everyone's heart. I could only imagine. Losing someone that you love so much. I slid my remaining food away. Weirdly, I had lost my appetite...
"We should go see a movie tonight."
"What's playing?" Brittany followed me into the front entrance way.
"Well, it's between Mad Max with sexy Tom Hardy." She seemed too droll as she swiped through the movie app on her cellphone. "And the Avengers with sexy Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth."
"Is the story plot not important to you?" I toyed.
"Um if I'm looking at the sexy men in the movie, I can create my own story plot."
"You are a fool."
"Well, I'm going to go get ready. Be ready in a half?"
"Mhm." I mumbled before I disappeared into the kitchen for something sweet. I opened the refrigerator. Where the hell are the good snacks? Cakes? Cookies? Unable to find something good, I settled for a little fruit. Grapes. Tossing one into the air, I watched fall until it hit my lip and rolled onto the tile floor.
I picked up grape and tossed it toward the waste basket. Seeing as it was an obvious miss, someone caught it just in time. Xavier. I watched as the piece of fruit explodes in his hand before he dropped it into the basket.
Shifting on my feet, I watched him wipe his hand on a small piece of cloth.
What the hell do I say to him?
"Good morning?" The words escaped me in the format of a question instead of statement or greeting.
He watched me for a few more moments before he parted his lips to speak.
"Afternoon." He slid passed me and over toward the refrigerator. My eyes followed him.
I felt so foolish for saying good morning! Hell, I felt even more foolish condoning last night's event. He reached into the refrigerator and pulled a bottle of water. He closed refrigerator and turned and looked at me.
"What?" His voice was cold, which sent a punch to my stomach. His face was stern. It was as if nothing ever happened just some hours ago. I watched him stare right through me as if I was nothing more than a kitchen utensil.
"Oh, um nothing. Sorry."
I left the kitchen without a second glance. I could not take another awkward stare. I walked into my room. Dropping my bag onto the bed, I walked into the bathroom. The faucets squeaked as I turned the water on. Cupping the water with my hands, I brought the water up to my face.
"What the hell just happened?" I did not have an answer to what just happened. Honestly, I did not want one.
Forget this all happened. I forced myself to forget the events that had occurred between him and me.
"Let's go!!" The door swung ajar before Brittany walked in. Her face was full of light before she took a better look at me. Her lively expression darkened to a look of concern.
"What's wrong? Are you sick? Is it your boyfriend? Do you want me to kick his ass?"
"No." I lightened up. "And he was not my boyfriend. Now let's go see this damn movie."
