《Welcome To Demon School! Ryūko-chan & Iruma-kun [Volume I]》Chapter XIII Story I [The Magical Apparatus Battler]

In the Student Council office, Ameri was supervising her Student Council colleagues as they were busy decorating the office. Currently, the others were trying to hang up a banner to Ameri's expectation. "A little more to the right!" Said Ameri, "Smoke, that side is sagging! Raise it up higher!" "Yes, boss!" Replied the others. "This is all because you don't train enough." Said Ameri, "You won't be going home today until we're decorating." "" Replied the other members again. "The President sure is pumped this year." Said a blond demon guy. "It's boy suprising." Replied another guy with glasses, "Asmodeus and Félin are someone that every Battler would want." The others agree with his statement. As the top students amongst the first-years, Asmodeus and Lavande were wanted by many other Battlers, but they will go wherever Ryūko and Iruma would want to. But the real reason Ameri was so pumped up is because of Ryūko and Iruma, neither Asmodeus nor Lavande would choose wherever they please as part of the demon customs that in a duel, the loser serves the victor.
To occupy herself, Ameri made paper flowers and garlands. She attached the paper flowers to the red curtains and hung up the garlands. The decorum she thought of wasn't something from her own idea; the decorations were inspired by one of the scenes of . She hopes that Ryūko and Iruma would like them. Once she made sure of nobody watching her, she sent them a message on her hellphone. "Don't forget to visit." Said Ameri.
Azazel Ameri:
Suzuki Ryūko:
Thank you for the earlier invitations, Ameri. We'll see if there is nothing for us to do
Azazel Ameri:
You'd better come.
Suzuki Iruma:
So you're the Student Council President, Ameri-san? I had no idea.
Suzuki Ryūko:
I thought it would be better if he found out soon enough. For your information, I'm usually by his side to protect him, so we don't know where we're heading next.
After receiving Ameri's messages, Ryūko and Iruma heard a distressed scream and explosion from one of the Battler rooms in the corridor. Turns out, the scream came from the same turquoise haired upperclassmen they met the other day and the explosion cane from Battler room. Ryūko caught Iruma when he stepped on a purple tube while trying to figure the situation out and she put him back on his feet. The two rushed to the upperclassman, who weakly lifted up his upper body. "Are you alright?" Asked Ryūko and Iruma. "Yeah, I'm fine..." Said the not-so-fine senior who passed out.
In The Student Council Office
"" Shouted Ameri in which, her sudden outburst startled the other Student Council members. "I was under the impression that he knew I was the Student Council President!" Thought Ameri, "I mean, I'm certain that Ryūko knew who I am, so did Iruma... Did the fact that I'm the Student Council President scared him?" After her suprise, Ameri received two messages from her expected guests.
Suzuki Ryūko:
Unfortunately, something has came to an arise. Due to this, we will not be able to observe the Student Council. We apologise for any inconvenience cause.
Suzuki Iruma:
That's right. We won't be able to make it today. Please accept our apologies.
Knowing this, Ameri became dissapointed and sightly depressed. "So he is scared of me!" Thought Ameri, "And they won't be coming to see the Student Council today? This is utterly disappointing..."
In The Magical Apparatus Battler Room
"Sorry about this." Apologised the upperclassman, "I messed up a bit trying to calibrate a magical apparatus." "I see. And hence the explosion and your scream of distress." Said Ryūko. He was lying on his back on a tatami mat, with a pillow under his head that Ryūko fetched from somewhere around the room. "I guess I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm . Pleasure to meet you." Introduced the upperclassman.

"Pleasure to meet you as well, Amy-senpai." Bowed Ryūko while sitting next to Kiriwo, "I do not know if you heard of us from the entrance ceremony or the School Papers, but I'll introduce myself too. My name is Suzuki Ryūko, female honor student and granddaughter of the Chair-demon, Lord Sullivan. This here by my side is my younger twin brother, Suzuki Iruma, male honor student and grandson of the Chair-demon, as well." "I'm sorry I can't serve you two some Hell Gray Tea." Apologised Kiriwo, "I'm the only member of this Battler, you see." "No need to apologise, Amy-senpai." Reassured Ryūko with a cold face, but gentle smile, "Do have some rest." She was waving him some fresh air with a paper fan.
Kiriwo stared at Ryūko in awe, just like the first encounter the three had in the hallway the other day. He seems to notice that her eyes aren't like Iruma's, which are identical in colour; since Ryūko was born with complete heterochromia and has a red right iris. "Amy-senpai, is something at your bother?" Asked the spider girl. His closed-eyed smile return to his face as he said: "Ah, it's nothing... That's a nice breeze. You have pretty eyes, Ryūko-chan; I've never seen any other demon with different eye colours like that. You're a beautifully special demon." "Oh, thank you." Smiled Ryūko, "I guess not many demons are born with cases like mine." "So this is the Magical Apparatus Battler." Thought Iruma as he looked about the room. "It's a mess, ain't it?" Asked Kiriwo, "Have a look around, if you'd like." "Thank you." Replied the twins as they looked around. Iruma found a purple vase and picked it up while Ryūko just found a black paper puppet. "I think you know this, but magical apparatuses are items that function using magic." Said Kiriwo, who got up and walked to them. "Right." Said Iruma, hiding the fact that he didn't know about that. His sister on the other hand, already knew this while studying everyday. "Just like the name suggests, we study magical apparatuses from everywhere and even make some ourselves." Added the upperclassman.
"You make them?" Asked Iruma, "Did you make that collar too?" "Er... This collar's a bit different." Answered Kiriwo, "Oh. I know." He took a crystal ball from the shelves, which he said will react when magic is put in it. "This is a ball that shines when you put magic in it." He said putting the ball in front of Ryūko and Iruma to demonstrate. Once the magic was transferred to the ball, it shone brightly. But then, Kiriwo suddenly coughed out blood staggered. Ryūko was alert and grabbed his shoulder to prevent him from falling down. "Amy-senpai, are you alright?" Asked the heterochromiatic girl. "Perfectly fine." Reassured Kiriwo, "This happens all the time." "All the time? That make me worry." Said Ryūko, "Maybe I should ask Lavande about any herbal remedies to help." "Good idea, but I'm not sure about that, Onē-chan." Said Iruma. Kiriwo then showed the twins a black paper doll and told them: "This is a doll that moves when you put magic into it. " As when he tranferred magic to the doll, it moved. "Wow, how adorable." Commented Ryūko with a cute smile. But her eye contact from the doll sharply turned to Kiriwo who spat blood again, telling them that he has reached his limit, and nearly fell to the floor. She swiftly got her arms positioned under his body and pick him up in them as she stood up. "Amy-senpai, please don't push yourself too hard!" Begged Ryūko with concern.

She placed him on a higher platform of the floor so he could take a break. Iruma gently gave him some fresh air using the paper fan from earlier as Ryūko prepares some Hell Gray Tea for the upperclassman. "Well, since you came by and all, I wanted to show you a few things." Said Kiriwo, "But I'm rather frai, and I don't have much magic." "I thought Onē-chan and I the only ones worried about our lack of magic, since we're human." Thought Iruma, "I guess that's not the case." Ryūko came back with a cup of Hell Gray Tea and handed it to Kiriwo. "Here's something for you." Said Ryūko. The senior student was suprised, but amazed by how kind Ryūko really is to him, despite being a weak demon. He thanked Ryūko and wondered aloud: "I thought this was something for me to do for you and Iruma when you came in." The said girl just shook her head and sat beside him saying: "I may be your underclassman, but I should be more thankful to get to know about your Battler. As you are our upperclassman, it is the underclassman that is to respect others above their years. The society, yes, is rank competitive, but I do not value respect mainly from ranks, and more likey value respect from those above my years no matter how strong or weak they are. That is why... I stand up for those upperclassmen being humiliated by their low ranks and give my utmost respect to them, no matter how weak they are." Such enlightening words of her honest respect towards upperclassmen and morality touched Kiriwo deeply as he sipped on his tea; he was never treated fairly like the others, but Ryūko being the coldest indivisual and a hidden sweetheart is what he found the most amazing thing about her.
He snapped out of his thoughts and said to them that he blew up a magical apparatus prototype he was working on. Iruma asked whether it was doing okay, resulting in Kiriwo beaming at them and asking: "Would you like to see it?!" Of course, the twins were more than happy to check it out. He proudly presented his apparatus prototype that looked kind of like a charcoal oven. "This is my prototype! The magic enhancement apparatys, Gabuko-chan!"
Okay, why the heck would he give an apparatus a name like "Gabuko-chan"? Sounds kind of funny, but cute at the same time. "Just like its name suggests, it's suppose to enhance one's magic..." Said Kiriwo, "But it's rather difficult to use." Ryūko and Iruma looked at the floor, finding some pink pieces of something at their feet. "Are these parts of the apparatus, too?" Asked Ryūko. "They look like puzzle pieces." Said Iruma. "Yup. You can touch them, if you'd like." Said Kiriwo. The twins thanked him for to permission granted as he explained more about this unidentified piece, "That's the battery for its heart. It's supposed to be the shape of a heart, but I can't seem to get the turbine's spin and ancha's heat capacity to connect correctly. I guess you two wouldn't know what I'm babbling about though." Kiriwo's explanation of the battery went on whilst Ryūko and Iruma connected one piece at a time to another one. It didn't take long for them to successfully bring everything together. "It's perfectly put together!" Exclaimed Kiriwo, "You're amazing, Ryūko-chan and Iruma-kun!"
"O-Oh. Uh, thank-"
"Ryūko-chan, Iruma-kun, have you two made any magcial apparatuses?" Asked the upperclassmen, "Hey, tell me all about-" For the third time of the day, he spat blood out again! But he's not wring about he himself being a rather frail demon. "" Asked Ryūko with a more concerned tone than usual as she provide him a handkerchief to clean up his mouth. They sat at the same platform from earlier as Iruma fanned him again while Ryūko held the battery in her hands and Kiriwo took another sip of tea (which is the one Ryūko gave earlier). "I got a bit too excited." Said Kiriwo, "But you sure are talented, Ryūko-chan and Iruma-kun." "That? Well, Iruma and I have dealt with such similiar equipments as young lads." Said Ryūko. "Yeah. Like fixing appliances we happened to pick up, or making our own light bulbs... Lots of stuff." Said Iruma, making Ryūko mentally facepalm for everytime he uses human world words in front of demons. "Appliances? I'm not sure what those are, but it sounds like you've had it rough." "Indeed, we had." Said Ryūko before she held the battery to Kiriwo, "Do you think you'll be able to use this?" "Of course!" Said Kiriwo before turning to Iruma, "Iruma-kun, could you bring that ball from earlier?" "Sure." Replied Iruma.
Kiriwo placed the battery in a cone-shaped holder located in the internal space of the magic enhancement apparatus, then put the ball from earlier on a blue cushion on the top of the apparatus, and connected some wires before flipping the switch that activates the operation. "This time, for sure..." Predicted Kiriwo with hope. Ryūko and Iruma stood idle as hey watched Kiriwo transfer his magic to the ball, then shining a bright as before. "It's shining!" Exclaimed Iruma. "Not yet." Said Kiriwo. That wasn't the expected result. After a few more seconds of transfering magic, the ball shone so much brighter with a radiant, turquoise glow. Ryūko's eyes reflected the light in crystal shards, she was amazed as she clasped her hands together in being impressed. "It worked!" Announced Kiriwo. "This glowing light luminated the room, and found you out of the dark despair of being unable to bring this presentation together!" Said Ryūko with her poetic voice bank turned on, "To think you were able to do it as one's self, but without us, you can't bring something brilliant immediately!" "Yup. Gabuko-chan's an amazing machine." Said Kiriwo much to Ryūko's agreement, "Even if you don't have much magic, it can draw out your magic to its limit. It's really hard for anyone without much magic to survive in the Netherworld. Currently in the Netherworld, as well as in this school, rank is the most important thing. It's very clear who's above who. If possible, I want create magical apparatuses that'll allow weaker demon to go head-to-head with stronger demons... and help make this power gap disappear." He left the twins with thoughtful expressions, they thought: "Make the power gap disappear... Actually, if that's possible..."
Once the upperclassman turned off the apparatus, Iruma told him that it's a great idea in his opinion. "Well, I can't talk about it too loudly, because I'm pretty sure it's the last thing high-ranked demons want to hear." Said Kiriwo disconnecting the wires, "But Ryūko-chan and Iruma-kun, you two have plenty of magic and you're so talented. You're just amazing. You can probably choose whatever Battler you want." "Pardon us, Amy-senpai." Asked Ryūko, getting Kiriwo to listen to her, "If we happened to have no magic, would you still let us decide our fate upon this very Battler of yours?" The turquoise haired demon walked to them and grasp his right hand in Ryūko's with his left hand in Iruma's as he said: "If you actually didn't have any magic... We'd be exactly alike! If you didn't have much magic, I'd love to have someone as talented as you, Ryūko-chan and Iruma-kun. What this Battler needs isn't magic, but technique." "However to speak truthfully of this, we are alike in terms of lacking in magic, but not in terms of physical strength nor attributes." Said Ryūko. "Strength and physical attributes?" Asked Kiriwo. Ryūko nodded her head before her mid-complete form kicked in, revealing her Extraspecies's multiple eyes, fangs and exoskeletal claws. "Iruma doesn't have these for some reason, but only I do." Said Ryūko with her arm bent and her hand moving some of her bangs and forelocks aside, "These are physiological attributes of Arachnes and Jorougumos, demons with spider attributes are rare and not easily spotted because they can transform into their full Extraspecies form or their normal demon form. Also, I am physically and mentally stronger than Iruma." The fact about her strength got Kiriwo curious, because he pulled her over to a coffee table and placed his right elbow on it. "Then could you please showcase to me your strength in a friendly match of arm wrestling?" Asked Kiriwo. "But, Amy-senpai, are you not aware of your weaknesses in such terms?" Questioned Ryūko without her arachnid parts. "It's okay." Reassured Kiriwo, "If anything happens, I can always go to the infirmary. I have one request, though: please go easy on me."
