Laney and Bark followed the trail to the tracker, their paws aching. "We've been walking for hours!" Bark complained. "It's been 30 minutes! Besides we're almost there!" Laney picked up his pace. "My paws hurt!" Laney stopped and rolled his eyes. "That's it, you've officially gone soft." Laney continued. "No I haven't!" Laney rolled his eyes. "Oh please. Yes you have!" Bark snarled. "HAVE. NOT!" "Oh just shut up Bark! We're here anyways!" Laney stopped in front of Tiny's large house. "It's so much bigger than I remember," Bark said as he stared. "So, how are we gonna get in?" Bark asked. "You'll howl to create a diversion, and here, take these." Laney handed Bark a brown curly wig and a newspaper. "What the—" Laney interrupted Bark abruptly. "Just do it! I'll nab Scrappy!" Bark rolled his eyes and sighed. "Fine." Bark put the wig on and held the newspaper in his mouth. "Better?" He asked, his words muffled. "Yep! Oh, and here!" Laney slapped a long, brown fake mustache under Bark's nose. "Ow!" Bark whined. "Oh shut up! Just say your doing a ad for the newspaper and I'll say which is the code word. Okay?" Bark nodded. "Whatever, now go!" Laney ran behind the house, searching for the back door. I'm not gonna howl! Bark walked up and knocked on the door. "I'll get it!" A voice from inside said. When the door opened, it was Brody. "Hello little one," Bark said in a French accent, "Is there a adult here?" Brody nodded. "Yeah. Why? And why do you look so familiar—?" Brody tilted his head. "JUST uh... I have a uh...ad and the newspaper!" Bark said hastily. Dog, I really have gone soft! Brody shoot his head. "Sorry, but we don't use the newspaper or listen to ads. Bye." Brody was getting ready to slam the door but Bark put his paw in the door. "Stop! Your parents email our company and asked for the newspaper! Please, they're paying money for this!" Bark panted, out of breath. "Hm. Fine. Give me a second." Brody left the door and Tiny replaced his spot. "Hello. May I ask who you are and what you're doing here?" Tiny asked politely. "I am... uh... Bork Mcdoggo!" Bark said hastily. Bork Mcdoggo? Really? I couldn't think of anything better? "Bork McDoggo? That is a um...name. What are you doing here?" Bark flicked his right ear. "I am here to give you the newspaper of this this week!" Tiny tilted her head. "Uh... newspaper? But we don't take newspapers." Bark sighed. "Yes you do! We got a email and it said you wanted to get newspapers!" Bark tried to suppress his French accent. "I'm sorry. You must have the wrong address, we don't take newspapers." Tiny smiled. "Yes it i—" Bark was cut off by a Squeak! SQUEAK! Bark turned his head to see Laney creeping in the bushes, with a bag on his back. Bark nodded. "YES IT IS NOT THE RIGHT ADDRESS I MUST GO BYEEEEE—" Bark ran off with a flash. "What the—" Tiny tilted her head. "You know what—forget it. Dogs are crazy." Tiny shut the door.

Laney ran as fast as he could, Bark following after him. "Slow down!" Bark ordered. "We can't! We have to get to the secret lair!" He called. "Let me outta here, buster!" Scrappy struggled in the bag. "You'll stay in there until we get to the lair!" Bark growled. "But I can't breathe!" Scrappy complained. "Fine! We need you alive, so here!" Bark tore three small holes in the bag. "Get me out of here!" Scrappy took a deep breath, struggling to punch her paws through the itty bitty holes.
Aha, it's this way! Cmon Bark!" Laney raced towards a bill board that said 'Pup Star, the next season! Sign Up to Audition Now!' and stopped. "Why are we here?" Bark asked, panting heavily. "This is our landmark, which means the location should be—" Laney looked around, then stopped his gaze on a dog pound. "Here!" Laney ran towards the dog pound, Scrappy screeching as he ran. "AH! YOU'RE RUNNING TOO FAST! I THINK IM GONNA BE SICK!" Scrappy yelped. "Don't care. We need you alive, not healthy." Scrappy yelled as she ran, "LET ME GO! NOW!" Laney ignored Scrappy.
Laney and Bark arrived at the dog pound. Multiple dogs were scented, locked up and cages and whimpering. "You take care of her and get her in the cage, I'll get our stuff set up," Laney ordered, handing Bark a leash and the bag with Scrappy in it. "Okay." Bark clipped Scrappy's leash on her collar and took her out of the bag. "Cmon. I don't have time for you to complain or escape." Bark pulled on Scrappy's leash and began to walk towards a cellar. "Oh please, I'll be out of here in no time! My family will find me, and I will get home and have my pups peacefully!" Scrappy sounded optimistic. "Believe what you must to be happy, just know that happiness will be gone soon," Bark chuckled. "Here you go!" Bark opened the cage, I clipped Scrappy's leash, and shoved Scrappy into the cage. "Ow! You won't get away with this!" Scrappy growled. "Very funny you think that, but I'm sure I already have!" Bark said as he walked away from the cage. "No! Please, don't leave me here!" Scrappy cried. My pups! They aren't safe, and neither am I! Scrappy thought. "There's no use," a voice sounded from beside Scrappy. The Yorkie turned her head to see a Jack Russell Terrier with light grey hairs in her fur. "Huh? Oh, hello," Scrappy greeted. "I'm Scrappy— and you are...." The terrier rolled her eyes. "I am River. I have been here for a very long time and have tried to escape— but never got away. The guards are too strong, quick, and alert." River pointed towards two guards— one a large Golden Retriever and another a Husky. Scrappy frowned. "Oh." Scrappy frowned. "I-I'll still escape! Just you wait!" Scrappy tried to have a good attitude. "Ah, heavy with pups I see. I could guess your expecting soon?" Scrappy nodded. "Yep! How'd you know?" River chuckled, "I used to be a nurse. I know these things, though some are a bit fuzzy." Scrappy smiled. "Was it fun?? She asked. Wait, did I hurt her feelings? I didn't mean to! River nodded, "It was wonderful. I even had a family of my own but... I prefer not to talk about that part." "I understand." River smiled. "Their probably going to take you somewhere, considering you're part of their plan." Scrappy tilted her head. "Plan? What do you know about the plan?" Scrappy asked. "Maybe if you tell me, I can escape." River nodded, "I overheard the guards talking about it. The plan is to take you here, take you to the 'Second Location' , then I haven't gotten to hear the rest... but I would assume it ends bad." Scrappy was shook. What if they threaten to hurt my family? She gulped. "You sure you don't k ow anything else?" River shook her head. "That's all I know, I'm sorry. You won't escape, and never will, no matter how hard you try, you'll get caught and taken to your 'Second Location'." Scrappy put her head under her paws as tears began to swell up in her eyes. "You're right, I'll never get out of here without them! I'll never escape, or get to raise my pups!" Scrappy cried. River frowned. "The truth hurts, Scrappy. If there was anything I could do to help you I would, but it's just impossible, and I'm old." Scrappy turned her head, "I'm going to sleep. Maybe won't remember this and be happy again!" Scrappy tucked her head under her paws once more, and slowly drift off into a deep, comfortable sleep.

"Oh silly Fox!" Brody laughed. "You don't eat bricks!" Brody chuckled as he stared at the TV. "This is so lame!" Rosie pouted. "You're not even supposed to watch TV!" Brody rolled his eyes. "So? I did nothing wrong! It was your fault!" Cindy growled. "Hey! We're taking our punishments, so you take yours! We have to go to bed in 30 minutes, and we're not supposed to watch TV! Turn it off!" Brody jumped. "Whoa! Someone's grumpy tonight..." Brody said as he pushed the off button on the remote. "Yes I am!" Charlie sighed. "Great, now what are we supposed to do?" Rosie shrugged. "I dunno. There isn't much to do," Cindy replied. "What about we play Hide and Seek?" Rosie asked. "Sure!" Brody and Cindy barked. Charlie shook her head. "Ima see if Scrappy will teach me to rap. But have fun!" Charlie dashed and ran towards Scrappy's room.
Charlie slowed as she got closer to Scrappy's room so she wouldn't startle her, her paw-steps becoming light. As she near Scrappy's room, she realized the light was off. Is she sleeping, already? Charlie padded closer to the dark room, soon hearing of helps of fear. "Let me go dawg!" Sudden realization flooded Charlie. Scrappy! Charlie ran into the room and turned the lights on, suddenly seeing a moving bag hanging outside the window. "No, Aunt Scrappy!" Charlie ran and grabbed the bag with her teeth. "Help!" Scrappy called from the bag. "I'm here!" Charlie barked. "Get me outta here!" Charlie pulled on the bag before getting a glimpse of a fluffy, dark tail. It looks like a German Shepherd! Charlie pulled on the bag, struggling to keep her balance to not fall. "No!" Scrappy called. Suddenly Charlie lost her grip and was pulled over the edge, her paws gripping the window. The bag fell and was somehow caught by something, then dashed into the bushed. It was all too fast. "No Scrappy! Help!" Charlie screeched. Tiny and P.U.P ran into the room. "What's goin on here?" P.U.P asked, snooker by the sight. "Scrappy... was... dognapped!" Charlie breathed heavily. "What?!" Tiny's eyes widened. "I saw a German Shepherd's tail! And... they had her in a bag! But I lost my balance and the bag with Scrappy in it fell, then somehow zoomed into the bushes! I think something caught her, and ran!" P.U.P picked Charlie out of the window and placed her down on the floor. "Are you sure?!" Tiny asked. "Y-yep!" Charlie struggled for breath. P.U.P looked her over. "You're fine, no cuts or anything." "FAMILY MEETING!! EMERGENCY!!!" Tiny screeched as loud as she could. The whole family rushed to the room, everyone out of breath and panting. "What's wrong? Is there a fire? Blizzard? Tornado?" Steven waited for Tiny to reply. "No, worse! Scrappy's been dognapped!" Charlie said before Tiny could get a word out. "DOGNAPPED?!" The whole family gasped. "Y-yes! I tried to help her— but I lost my balance and almost fell out of the window!" Cindy practically jumped out of her fur. "Was it scary?" She shivered. "Very!" Charlie ran over to her siblings as they questioned her, looking her over to make sure she was okay. "I'm fine," Charlie sighed. "Just shocked is all." Lou interrupted, "What are we going to do then?" Tiny sighed. "I dunno, but whatever we decide to do, needs to be quick! Scrappy's pups are due on 2 weeks, and she's in danger!" Steve nodded. "Maybe we should tell the police and file a missing persons report!" Brody suggested. "Yeah! But maybe we should also look for her!" Rosie barked. "Good ideas pups! Cmon Lou and girls, let's get the police!" Tiny, Lou, and the girl pups ran out of the room and down to the kitchen. "Cmon Brody and P.U.P, we can search for clues!" Steven and the rest two boys ran downstairs and went outside.
"Ow!" Scrappy awoke with immense pain in her stomach, yelping loudly. "Whoa, relax!" River barked quickly. "You'll over exhaust yourself! It's just a contraction!" River fit her paws between one of the bars and put her paw on Scrappy's. Scrappy slowly began to calm down, her breath becoming more calm. "Thank you," Scrappy panted. "I may not be a nurse anymore, but you need help." Scrappy smiled. "Thanks." River tilted her head. "When are the pups due?" She asked. "2 weeks. That's why I need to get out of here, I just dunno how." Laney suddenly walked up to Scrappy's cage. "Two days is when we carry into the second part of the plan."

Red Street Daybreak
August Samuel Hatch was born under an inauspicious pattern of stars. It's granted him what is widely considered the most unlucky of inconveniences: becoming host to a powerful but pernicious spirit that will act as his guide and protector--and one day end his life. Sairne is sworn to stand by August's side and, when the fancy strikes her, advise him, all in the service of atoning for a past life she can’t remember having committed a grave enough offense to earn her soul indentureship in the mortal realm. Bound by a celestial contract neither one can negotiate, their fates are all they've ever known. But in a city ruled by religious right and where magic runs deep as bedrock, their search for a missing friend leads them to a dark conspiracy that could transmute the very magic that binds them to their fates, and that might grant them the ultimate choice: do they save the city or save themselves? Cross-posted on Wattpad and Ao3. For fans of fantasy YA story beats if they starred adults instead, 1920s inspired setting, lots of banter, larger cast of characters, somewhat soft magic system. Completed, but being actively edited prior to posting! I'm the only captain on this ship, so mind any errors.
