《Pup Star 5:Two Miracles》Chapter 19

Brody ran downstairs, practically flying over the stairs. "Mom, can I have a poster board and some pens and pencils?" Tiny jumped. "You scared me, silly! But yeah, let me get it for you." Tiny rummaged through the art cabinet and pulled out all sorts of stuff. Paintbrushes, yarn, even colored pastels! Wow we have a lot of stuff in there! Brody realized. Tiny finally pulled out two thick poster boards, some normal sized lined paper, some large pieces of paper, and a gallon sized plastic bag full of pens, pencils, and colored pencils. "Here." Tiny handed Brody the supplies, carful not to drop any. Brody placed it all lightly on the floor. "Thanks Mom!" Brody smiled then carried all the supplies upstairs, carful not to put any teeth marks or drool on them. He raced to their room. "I got all of this!" Brody dropped it on the floor, panting heavily. "Did you get a calendar?" Charlie asked. Brody shook his head. "No, this was heavy enough already! Plus, Mom would've been suspicious." Charlie nodded understandably. "That's fine, we can use the extra one in the closet!" Cindy ran towards the closet and pulled out a medium sized calendar. "Okay then, that'll work!" Charlie hummed. "Anything else we need?" Hm... Brody thought. "Maybe some new backpacks or bags?" Brody asked. "Good thinking, so Mom and Dad won't get suspicious!" Rosie barked. The pups looked towards Cindy. "What? Why are you looking at me?" Cindy asked. "Any extra bags?" Charlie asked. "Oh, yep! Lemme get them from the closet!" Cindy ran into the closet and pulled out five small white backpacks, all small, but enough to carry what was needed. "Why are there five?" Charlie asked. Cindy sighed. "Just a backup." "Where do you even get all of this stuff from?" Brody asked. "Three words. Mall, and PUPPYZONE." Charlie tilted her head. "But how do you—" Cindy rolled her eyes. "I'll tell you later, that's not even important right now though." "Okay," Charlie mumbled. "Ugh, these need some color!" Rosie gagged. "They're so plain!" Brody nodded in agreement. "I'm not the one to care, but we at least need our names and some color coding." Cindy nodded. "Let's make sure we have everything first, then let's paint them!" Cindy wagged. "Finally!" "Anything else we need?" Brody asked. Cindy looked around and shook her head, "Nope! We can start setting up now! Let's start off with the calendar and picking days!" Cindy grabbed the calendar and a pen and the pups sat in a circle. "What days should we do?" Cindy asked. Charlie sighed. "Monday?" Cindy wrote it down on the calendar. "Wednesday?" Rosie asked. Cindy co tinted to write. "Maybe Friday or Saturday?" Brody asked. Cindy nodded and wrote in the Friday section. "Perfectly evened out! Now, we need to decide what days are morning and what days are night." The pups nodded. "Didn't you write all the days up until Scrappy's expecting?" Rosie asked. "Yep!" Rosie sighed. "Then how about you just start off with Monday as morning and go from there to make a pattern, that way it'll be morning, night, morning, night, and so on so forth." Cindy nodded and wrote all of it down on the calendar. "Now, we need to decide roles." Brody nodded and passed Cindy a piece of lined paper. Cindy got four different pens. One pink, one purple, one golden and navy blue, and one aqua. She wrote Rosie's name in pink, Brody's name in purple, Charlie's name in golden and navy blue, and her own name in aqua. "Color coding," Cindy explained. "Who will be Monday?" Cindy asked. Charlie raised her paw. "Me." Cindy wrote 'Searcher' for Charlie on the lined paper and put 'Charlie' for each Monday on the calendar. "I'm doing Wednesday." Cindy wrote 'Searcher' for herself on the lined paper and put 'Cindy' for each Wednesday on the calendar. "I'll do Friday," Brody yapped. Cindy wrote 'Searcher' for Brody on the lined paper and put 'Brody' for each Friday on the calendar. "I wanna do a day!" Rosie pouted. "You can do Wednesday with me, I guess." Cindy wrote 'Searcher' for Rosie on the lined paper and put 'Rosie' for each Wednesday on the calendar. "Who will be the extra pup and the backup?" Charlie asked. "Who's willing to—" Cindy was cut off by Brody. "I will. But I'm still gonna do Friday." Cindy nodded and crossed out 'Searcher' on the lined paper, and replaced it with 'Searcher and Gatherer/Backup'. "Okay, now we need to organize, then we can be extra and decorate!" Rosie smiled and her eyes lit up. "Yes!" Cindy got a poster board and a large, thick piece of paper. She stuck the paper to the poster board, covering the front of it with white paper. "Okay, I'll just tape and pin these papers to the paper on the board and we can be done!" Cindy stuck the lined paper and the calendar on the poster board. "There, done! Now we can get some paint and color our backpacks!"

"Finally, we're done!" Charlie panted. "NOT ME!" Rosie said as she dabbled a paintbrush in some pink paint. She quickly smeared the paintbrush tip onto her backpack carefully. "Almost— I just need-...and..... DONE!" Rosie threw down the paintbrush onto her large pallet, which was covered in all sorts of pastel and bright colors. Cindy smiled, her tail wagging. "Great! Now let's showcase our backpacks! I'll go first!" Cindy threw up her backpack. "Ta-daaa!" Cindy smiled. Her backpack was a light aqua, with her name written in a big cursive font in the center. It included little bits of silver glitter around the perimeter and little stick-on plastic pearls and diamonds that cling to her name. "That's pretty!" Rosie wagged her tail. The pups clapped wildly. Cindy gave a light grin and swapped placed with Charlie. "Now, for mine!" Charlie put her backpack in the air as she stared at it with pride and glory. It was black, with golden stripes and highlights. It had a large navy blue and gold bow tie in the center, and smaller ones on the straps. It had her name written in bold italics over the top of the large bow tie. "Whoa, cool!" Brody cheered. The pup clapped once more, and Charlie swapped places with Brody, giving a proud smirk as she stepped down. Brody leaped up proudly, immediately pulling up his backpack for show. It was still white— but it had gorgeous red and blue designs all over it, with his name in a thick bold. The pups clapped, Charlie rolled her eyes in jealousy. "Thank you, thank you!" Brody prided, hopping down. "What a try hard." Charlie grumbled. "What did you just say?!" Charlie jumped as Brody stood behind her, his gaze strong on hers. "Heh... did I say that out loud?" Charlie asked, hoping she wasn't caught in the act. "YES. YES YOU DID!" Brody snarled, his anger expression becoming strong. I can't back down now, they'll think I'm weak! Charlie gulped. "Well— I meant what I said!" Brody stumbled back, taken aback at his sister's admittance. "Ugh! You are ALWAYS a SORE LOSER, CHARLIE!" Brody snapped, immediately trying to win this. She wants to start something? I'll give her something! "Shouldn't we stop them?" Cindy whispered to Rosie. Rosie nodded, "Yeah, but I wanna see how it plays out!"

Sorcery in Boston
The timid daughter of some of the greatest spellcasters ever to have lived has found herself in another world, courtesy of magic gone awry. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1935, she finds some kind souls in a hard era. In the heart of the Great Depression, as war looms around the corner, she seeks to find her place, and must come to terms with both who she is and what she truly desires. Author's Notes: Release Note: I recently realized what the hold up is. My current mental state is not compatible with the planned ending. If I wrote the ending according to what currently feels right, it will be a wretched, cruel ending that feels monstrously unfair and invalidates the work of the various characters... because that's how my life feels at the moment. The planned ending is coming out hollow and awkward, no matter how I write it, and so I've been bashing my head. I will finish it, once I manage to either brute force something decent out, or once my head gets screwed on straight. Audience: This story is not for young children - it contains some profanity, sexual content, violence, gore, and significant adult themes. Most of these are handled delicately enough not to upset teens or adults (hopefully), hence the lack of relevant tags, but it is nonetheless unsuitable for youth. It's fairly slow paced, and focused on the development of very human, very flawed individuals. Length / Completion Estimates: The outline currently involves two books. Book 1 is expected to be done with Chapter 43. It'll probably be completely finished by sometime in March of this year. I expect to move on to the far-more-lighthearted Of Gods and Dungeons (currently in progress / on hiatus). Afterwards, I may decide to redo Book 1, or write Book 2, or actually start sharing the story most dear to me, that I've been working on for several years now. Draft 1: Please be aware that this is first draft material. I do intend to come back to do a second draft after the story is complete. If anyone notices any issues whatsoever with the story, please let me know (pm, etc) so that I can improve the second draft. Writer's Pledge: I've taken the Writer's Pledge, meaning I'm commiting to completing this story. I'm a proud member of WriTE, a group dedicated to finishing stories. It will be done! Behind the Scenes notes: This picture was commissioned from an inked artist by the name of DanP. Up until the time of the protagonist's arrival, history has proceeded as before. Some places and characters have been borrowed from wikipedia entries of interesting figures from the time. I will make note in the chapter comments when such things come up. Naturally, I've taken a great deal of liberty with them. In interest of respecting individuals, I've either attempted to portray them as accurately as possible, or modified them sufficiently enough that they're simply an inspiration, instead of a real portrayal. I've attempted to be as accurate to the era as possible, but I'm not a historian. If you're aware of inaccuracies, please, bring them to my attention so that I can correct them.
