《More Than What He Seems - A Fortnite Story No.1》Chapter 26 - We're Not Done Yet

By the time rainy thunder clouds start rolling over the island, Midas' office was back in proper working order.
"Phew, all done!" Skye smiles, wiping the sweat off her forehead. Her mind unfortunately returns to what happened:
Sophie was gone. Midas had his biggest mental breakdown ever... getting himself drunk probably didn't help him either. The other henchmen and agents were having a tough time rebuilding what was fixable, but it was becoming clear the Fortilla was beginning to sink and break down slowly.
Who knows how much longer it'll stand.
"What's our status of the Fortilla Jules?" Ocean asks, helping Jules tinker with the machinery.
"Not good. This place will sink and fall apart anyday now. We have 2 choices: Find a new base of operation fast, or end this war once and for all." She informs her.
Skye listens and watches, helpless on what to do. It's at times like this Sophie would comfort them all, telling them that we'll get through this.
"Guys... what do we do?" She sighs, the girls hugging each other, feeling hopeless.

The next day...
As rainy, windy weather pours heavily onto the island, Midas slowly awakes to the most unpleasant headache he's had in years.
"Ugh, my head. What happened to me last night?" He grumbles, trying to get up.
Using the wall on his right as support, he sits up despite the urge to lie down again.
"I'm... back in my room? But, I thought I was in my office..." He mumbles, trying to remember what happened last night.
Memories flash in his mind, and it soon becomes clear:
"That's right. Sophie's gone, and I had a huge breakdown..." He recalls, rubbing his head.
His temper begins rising again, but resists the urge to slam his fist against the wall again.

"What am I supposed to do now? I've lost the one friend who put all her faith, friendship and trust in me..."
His eyes begin to water as golden tears fall down his face.
"I'm sorry kid... I'm so sorry..."
Midas' eyes open wide to find himself back in his mind...or the black void.
"Oro? Where are you? Let me speak to you!"
The golden skeleton king appears as per his command.
Grabbing him by the huge chain around his neck, Midas looks at Oro, panicked.
"You know something, don't you? Is she alive? What did Chaos Agent do with her?"
Oro answers him, taking his golden hand off him.
"What do you mean?"
His eyes widen in horror upon hearing this information. "Show me something, anything!" He shakes the skeleton king, rattling his bones.
A sphere-shaped mirror appears, very blurry. But both can make out a child behind prison bars, unconscious. And what seems to be Chaos Agent, with his mask off, and him arguing with someone else. It then glitches out, disappearing.
Oro hums, pulling out a golden rose from thin air accompanied with sparkles.
He passes the rose over to Midas, closing his hands around it.
"I'll save her Oro, even if it kills me. I won't let that monster get away with it."
A determined expression lies upon Midas' face as he says those words.
*******************"*********************
The golden mastermind opens his eyes, the rose still in his hand. He knows now it's up to him how this war ends.
With newfound knowledge and confidence, Midas gets out of his bed and begins getting ready. Having a shower, doing his hair, getting breakfast and arranging a meeting, but not any old meeting:
A meeting involving henchmen and agents alike.
"Attention henchmen and agents of this great island. This is Midas, leader of Ghost. I'm sure you are aware of the events that occurred yesterday. Well, it's become clear that Shadow wanted us to come to them, as a consequence, the girl whom you may be familiar with is no longer with us at the moment." He starts it off, speaking through the microphone connected to the speakers around the Fortilla.

"It's clear now that this war must come to a close, win or lose. And that, my friends, is why every single one of us here are launching a full scale assult on the Authority today! This isn't about taking back what was once ours, but about freeing this island from Shadow's rein of darkness and honouring the henchmen and agents we've lost along the way. So, join me, for one last battle against Shadow!! For the island and it's FREEDOM!!" Midas shouts, showing he isn't sitting around and watching anymore.
Shouts and cheers of enthusiasm and determination erupt from the crowds of people. Pleased with himself, Midas turns away from the mic and pulls out his phone, dialing a number.
"Huh? Boss? You need some help with something?"
"Say, Meowscles. How'd you feel about joining me and Ghost for one last battle? I'm sure your help will be greatly appreciated."
"Then I'd say you've got the purrfect feline for the job."
"I thought you'd say yes. Meet us here. We leave in 1 hour."
"You got it M."
Meowscles hangs up on Midas, who puts his phone away. He then notices the golden rose Oro gave him in his other pocket. He smiles and takes it out, sniffing the sweet scent.
"Don't you worry Sophie. We're coming... I'm coming..."

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.
