《Love And War - A Fortnite Story No.4》25 - Operation Skyfire P.2

The trio land in a containment chamber filled with random items and objects taken off the island such as boxes, Believer Beach decorations, cat food and more.
"Okay. The transport tube up ahead will take you to the containment chamber housing the bombs. Just give me a minute to reverse the air flow."
Jones leads the way while Midas closely follows behind and Dark Jonesy trails alongside them. They run past a sealed up area containing a mountain of cat food and unhatched alien eggs. However, those aren't the only things inside...
Midas and Jones turn to the window and find the henchmen, Ryan and Jim, locked in with the eggs!
"Hey Jim! Look! It's the boss!"
"Henchmen! Thank goodness you're both alive and okay."
"We'll be okay once we're outta this cage!" Jim points out. "Boss, can you get us out?!"
Midas nods, opening his hands as his sceptre appears in them again. Focusing on his power he points it at the window.
"Duck!"
The henchmen do just that as a beam of energy fires and makes a gaping hole in the glass barrier, giving them an opening to crawl through without touching the eggs.
"Woah that was amazing sir!" Ryan says with excitement.
"Yeah, where'd you get the sceptre from?" Jim asks.
"It's a long story that we don't have time to go through right now." Midas hums, putting it away.
"Gentlemen! What's the hold up?! We don't have time for lollygagging around!" Slone yells through the communications device. "I'm almost done reversing the air flow. Get to that transport tube now!"
With aggravated sighs Midas, Jones, Dark Jonesy and the freshly rescued henchmen make their way to another part of the abduction chamber and the transport tubes. Strangely enough, a couple golden Peely statues and a chair from Midas' old office in the Agency were there.
"Alright. Give me a second boys."
They patiently wait for Slone to finish hacking into the air flow for the transport tubes. Within a few seconds, the air begins to stop shooting things out and pull the boys in.
"Okay. Get in the tubes and it'll take you straight to the abduction chamber housing the bombs."
In between swiftly dodging pieces of debris and objects they finally make it to the abduction chamber, landing in a strange liquid near a window.
"Oh good. The bombs are in place." Slone sighs in relief. "Alright I'll get things ready on my end, keep your backpacks near the bombs."
Dark Jonesy gazes at the amount of bombs strapped to the abducted fragments of Corny Complex, very worried about this whole plan of Slone's.
"What do you mean?" Jones asks.
"Alright. I'm starting the arming sequence."
It seems to be going well at first, until alarms start going off. The windows showcasing the bombs suddenly close as the signal is cut off.

"Everything alright doctor?" Midas asks.
"No. I-I don't know what went wrong there. The signal was cut off! Just....stay alive in there!"
At that very moment, the liquid in front of them begins bubbling and turning a sickly purple. Something was emerging from it.
Something purple...
Something dangerous...
Something...cube shaped...
"Is that what I think it is?!" Jones gasps.
"This... this is impossible! We thought it was gone for good!" Slone breathes, a hint of shock and disbelief in her voice. "Last time it nearly destroyed the island!"
A gigantic purple cube with runes scattered around its form and electrical charges coming off it rises from the liquid.
"I always knew of its existence." Midas starts. "But I've never seen it with my own eyes before, let alone this close."
"Okay, I gotta weaponize your packs! Hang on!"
Lighting sparking from the cube begins heading towards the boys, hitting them hard. Dark Jonesy however is the only one unaffected since his body was filled to the brim with the cube's dark energy, and he quickly realized that.
He quickly tries forming a barrier with his powers, hoping he can protect the people he calls his friends and praying he doesn't use too much and let his corruption take over again.
"Brace yourselves boys!"
A shockwave of energy blasts from the backpacks on Midas and Jones, somewhat deactivating the cube and turning it a dead empty black.
"Excellent work Doctor Slone." Midas hums.
"No time for celebrating just yet Midas. Stand near those bombs with Jones while I reactive the arming sequence."
As the windows are uncovered, the bombs in the chamber slowly begin blinking as they begin powering up. The henchmen watch in wonder, holding hands.
"Almost there...!"
The blinking gets faster before stopping at a red colour as the arming sequence finishes. The backpacks display a timer of 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
"And we're done."
"Woohoo!! Mission accomplished!" Jones cheers with a slight leap of happiness and hugging Midas.
"Indeed. Aside from the cube, that went a lot easier than I thought." Midas smiles. "Now, Doctor Slone. How are we getting out of this place?"
"Yeah. You promised a safe passage." Jones agrees.
Slone begins chuckling slightly to herself, and not in the friendly kind of way.
"Oh Jones, Midas.... you really ARE idiots. Did you really think I'd bring you back?!"
The boys' hearts drop in absolute shock. Slone had played them like a fiddle. She was going to leave them on the ship to blow up along with the bombs and die!
"You heartless backstabbing bitch!" Midas growls. "I knew we couldn't trust you!"
"Sorry boys. You've played your part, now I have to play mine."
Jones was in absolute rage, the angriest he's ever been.
"YOU FUCKING LIAR!!" He yells. "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US?! WHAT ABOUT THAT TRUCE WE MADE?!"

"That was just to appease you and gain your trust you blond numbskull." She chuckles.
Jones looks down in disbelief, anger continuing to bubble inside him.
"I have to do what I have to Jones! You should know that better than anyone else!" Slone growls. "We're fighting a war in which we're hopelessly outgunned. I refuse to bring you home if there's a chance that...thing can make it back to the island."
The henchmen hug each other tight, while Dark Jonesy looks down in defeat and folds his arms.
"Over and out."
With that Slone cuts off all communication channels, leaving the five men to wallow in self pity. A scream of rage leaves Jones as he slams his fists into the window, and it doesn't even leave a crack.
"Jones calm down this instant." Midas shouts, taking him by the shoulders and pulling him away from the window.
"No!! It's my fault we're in this mess! If I hadn't made that stupid truce with her we wouldn't be up here!"
The blond was so upset about the situation that tears were falling down his face. Midas hums deeply, rubbing his back and leaning his head on Jones'.
"Hey, hey. Shhh shhh. It's okay dear. It's not your fault." He coos softly. "Come now. Chin up, look at me."
Wiping his eyes Jones looks at Midas, his clouded eye and glimmering gold eye giving him an aura of comfort and safety.
"I think I know why she decided to do this."
*sniff*
"Why?"
"Because she's scared that Kevin will get back to the island. She's just as much as a coward as you once were." Midas smirks. "She left and took the cowardly way out because a single cube showed up and interrupted her plan. So don't worry."
Midas brushes a hand on Jones' cheek, smiling warmly at him.
"She's the coward here, not you. There's still hope. Maybe we can still find a way out of here."
Jones smiles, feeling a little better. They're about to lock lips before a voice calls out.
"Hey boss! Check this out!"
Everyone turns around to see the henchmen making contact with the downed cube. It was sparking blue where their hands were. Intrigued Midas, Jones and Dark Jonesy step over to it. The blond and the mastermind hesitantly place their hands on the cube, the blue glow emitting near them.
Dark Jonesy mutters.
"Come on Dark. At least try."
Gazing at his hands Dark Jonesy closes his eyes and presses a hand on the cube. The blue glow begins spreading up it, reaching the top. Within seconds, the cube is a healthy light blue colour as its rebooted by everyone's touch.
"Woah... it's like a good cube now.." Jones sighs in awe, letting go.
The platform slowly begins to rise into the air, the now blue liquid below rippling gently, the doors above opening and leading into a dark abyss.
Dark Jonesy opens his eyes again and finds something has changed about him on the inside. The corruption was still there, but it was a lot less overwhelming. He felt like he could use his powers freely without worrying about the darkness within him taking control.
It was like the blue cube healed him in a sense...
"Where are we now?" Ryan asks.
"I dunno bro." Jim responds.
An abductor flies over their heads, illuminating the area for a moment. Midas looks around, his arms around Jones, and he spots another platform rising. To his horror, another purple cube was on it.
"There's more than one?"
"There's another over there!" Jones points to the right.
Midas suddenly realises something.
"This is what Joey meant before." He figures as more and more cubes begin appearing. "The ship was powered by thousands of cubes. When it blows up..."
"The cubes will come crashing down on to the island and destroy it..." Jones finishes Midas' thought.
A alarm for the 5 second warning on the backpacks rings out.
"Our times up!" Jones shouts.
"Brace yourselves everyone!" Midas yells.
With loud and violent shaking, explosions of fire and smoke erupt from below sending the abductors off course and toppling the platforms the cube's were on, including the one Midas and the others were standing on.
Everyone begins sliding about with Jones and Midas clinging on to each other. An explosion sends all flying, separating them and blowing them away as everything goes white...
---------
Jones flinches, opening his eyes. They widen as he realises he's plummeting down to the island below along with countless cubes crashing on to it.
The henchmen fall past him trying to reach each others hand.
"Oh god! It's destroying everything! This ain't good!" He yells. "Midas!! Dark Jonesy!! Where are you both?!"
Midas falls from above Jones, stretching his hand out to him as the blue cube tumbles down and swivels the blond around.
"Jones! Take my hand!"
They struggle to get a good grip on each others hand, but Midas manages to catch Jones by the wrist, yank him upwards and catch him in his arms. Their hair flows in the wind, adrenaline pumping through them as debris flies by.
"Are you okay dear?"
"Y-Yes. I'm okay... now that you're here..."
As the two men watch the Mothership collapse and fall to pieces in the sunset sky half of an abductor flies down, heading straight towards them. Midas summons his sceptre, ready to blast it away while Jones huddles close to him.
Dark Jonesy however quickly glides between them, stretching out his arms and focusing on his dark magic.
"Dark..?"
He smiles softly.
The abductor crashes into them just as Dark Jonesy begins forming a barrier to protect them.

Bright Feather
I'd like to say something like this is a unique story, blah-blah, but it's not. The story itself is your typical fantasy story with magic, fightings, plot armors, good friends, beautiful ladies and whatever there always is in such stories. I pretty much enjoy typical stories. So I've decided to write one myself. The only thing is the story isn't going to be centered about the Main Character. So let's leave all of the above to him, we'll meet him eventually anyway. This is the story of MC's counterpart. While our greatest Main Character conquers the world, cultivates, and whatever else, what does his destined other half do? Sit and stoically wait for him to come out of the closed door cultivation? Really now... Just thought it might be interesting to write such a story. Let's see if I manage. I'm new to this so, dear readers, please, don't be harsh on me. But if you have some words for me, so I can improve, don't keep them to yourselves, all help is deeply appreciated. And I officially promise to be very slow and inconsistent with releases (myriads reasons for this.) But I'll still do my best to finish the story someday. WARNINGS! (I thought a lot, and in the end, I'm putting it here. Better safe than sorry.) First of all, you can probably easily guess, but English is not my native language. And everything that comes with it. I don't think that it excuses me though, so I will improve with time, but warning you nevertheless. Second: No harem, no BL, no Romance And the last but not least: Beware of psychological pressure on characters and characters' deaths. Not much, in my opinion, but still, if you're overly sensitive to violence or mind games, better drop before starting. In any case, you've been warned. With all the above said, welcome, and enjoy.
