Colby's POV
"VIOLET! DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! IT'S NOT REAL!" I yelled as Sam and I pounded on the door. "It's not budging!" Sam yelled as I heard a door slam from down the hall. "VIOLET!" I yelled as I turned the doorknob, trying desperately to open it, but it wasn't moving.
"She's in danger, Sam! We have to get to her!" I yelled as I started to feel the anxiety bubble up in my chest. "COLBY! SAM! HELP!" Violet screamed bloody murder sending chills down my spine.
The need to protect her increased tenfold as I rammed my body into the door, trying to break it down. "Dude, you're going to hurt yourself!" Sam said as I rammed my body into the door a couple more times. "I don't fucking care!!" I screamed as I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder as I rammed into the door.
"COME ON!!!" I screamed and pulled at the handle feeling my eyes brim with tears. I rammed into the door one more time, causing it to finally break off the hinges.
"VIOLET!" I yelled and ran down the hallway to the room that she told me not to go into. I couldn't hear anything on the other side of the door which scared me.
"Colby! Wait!" Sam yelled as I tried to open the door. "Sam, she's not screaming anymore! She needs help!" I yelled as the door didn't budge.
"FUCK!" I screamed and pulled at the handle again. "Hey, let me help you." Sam said and pulled me back so he could ram into the door. "Violet, baby please answer me!" I yelled out as Sam rammed into the door.
He rammed it open causing a disgusting smell to fill my nostrils. I ignored it though and ran into the room.
Violet was in the middle of the room, laying in a puddle of her own blood. "VIOLET!" I yelled and ran up to her. "Fuck!" Sam yelled as I knelt down and collected her into my arms. There was blood covering her pale face as she layed there unconscious. There was a hole in her forehead which was still trickling blood, causing my heart to race.
"She's dead, oh my fucking god!" I yelled and started to sob as I held her close to my body.

Sam grabbed her wrist and put his fingers on it, looking for a pulse. "She's alive dude, but barely. We have to go to the hospital. Now." He said and stood up.
I nodded and held her close to my body then stood up. "How the hell are we supposed to get her through the opening to get to the main part of the asylum?" I asked as we ran towards the opening in the wall.
"We'll figure it out. I'm getting the stuff!" Sam said then ran down the hallway. "It's gonna be okay, baby. I'm here, you're gonna be okay." I mumbled and kissed her head as Sam came running down the hall with the backpack and camera.
"I'm gonna go through, then maybe we can just pass her through." Sam suggested as I nodded, "we have to hurry dude, I can't lose her." I said as he nodded, "I know, man." He said then quickly shimmied through the opening.
"Okay, try to pass her through." Sam said as I nodded, then tried to maneuver her through the opening but it wasn't possible because she was so limp. "It's not gonna work...damn it!" I hissed as I looked around.
"Hold on." I said then laid her on the ground. There was a desk chair abandoned in the middle of the hallway so I grabbed it and turned towards the opening.
"Stand back, Sam!" I yelled then started to slam the chair into the wall, causing it to break away. It wasn't breaking away fast enough. Violet didn't have much time since she was still bleeding, leaving another puddle in the hallway.
My heart slammed against my chest as I threw the chair away and started punching the wall as hard as I could.
I could feel the skin on my knuckles splitting open as giant chunks of wall came falling onto the ground but I didn't care.
It was working.
I continued punching the wall until the opening was big enough to get Violet through. "That's good man! You can stop!" Sam yelled as I wiped my cheeks, catching the tears that I didn't realize were falling.
I looked down at Violet then scooped her into my arms again, cradling her head against my chest in an attempt to keep her safe as I squeezed through the wall.

"I called an ambulance, we have to go." Sam said as soon as I got through the wall with her. "Let's go." I said then started to run with Violet in my arms.
As we ran we would hear doors slamming and people screaming, almost as if they didn't want Violet to be saved. "Dude, come on!" I yelled and ran faster, holding Violet tighter to my chest.
It was scaring me how limp her body was against mine.
When we got outside there was an ambulance already out there waiting for us. "What's her name and what happened?" The paramedic asked as I laid Violet down on the gurney. "We have no idea..she's bleeding a lot. Her name is Violet Richards. You have to help her." I begged as they wheeled her into the ambulance.
"We're gonna do the best we can." He said then jumped into the back of the ambulance and closed the door.
I wanted to ride with them, because I was scared out of my mind, but they needed space to work on her so only one of us would go and I wasn't going to leave Sam.
As soon as they drove off I collapsed onto my knees and started to cry, feeling the adrenaline wear off.
"It's gonna be okay, man. We have to go to the hospital." Sam said as I nodded. "She has to live dude.." I whispered as he nodded. "I know man...She will. She's gonna survive." He said and quickly called us an Uber so we could get to the hospital.
"I want to know what happened." I said and looked back at the asylum. "We're not stepping foot in there again. This place is evil." Sam said as I nodded. "We're done." I agreed as the Uber pulled up.
I could still feel my heart beating out of my chest as we drove to the hospital. I couldn't wrap my head around what happened, since it all happened so fast.
It looked as though she wasn't even controlling her body as she walked out of the room. I could still hear her cries for help as Sam and I tried desperately to get to her.
I don't know what I would do if she died.
It sounded ridiculous because we have only known eachother for less than a week but the amount of love I had for her was indescribable.
Violet was the perfect girl for me. She was kind, loving, beautiful, and wasn't afraid to go on an adventure.
It felt like the universe created this perfect girl and placed her in my life.
I couldn't lose her.
"What do you think happened to her?" I mumbled as I chewed on my lip. "I don't know..It looked almost like a bullet hole in her forehead." Sam mumbled as I clenched my jaw.
"We would have heard that though, right?" I asked as he nodded. "Yeah, we would have." He said as I rubbed my chin.
"I need her to be okay." I said as we pulled into the hospital. "I've never seen you like this before, dude." He said as I nodded. "I've never felt like this before. I've never fallen this hard before." I said as we got out of the car.
"I just don't want to see you get hurt, bro." He said as we walked towards the waiting room. I went to the desk, catching the attention of the woman behind it.
"Is there any update on Violet Richards?" I asked as she hummed then typed into her computer. "She's in surgery right now." She said as I nodded, "She's alive though?" I asked as she nodded, "As far as I know." She said as I nodded then sat besides Sam again.
"I'm not going to get hurt." I said quietly as I pulled my phone out. "It's just...long distance is hard, dude. I don't want either of you to get hurt..do you even have a plan?" Sam asked as I went on Twitter.
My mentions were flooded with fans telling me off for being close to Violet in Sam's video. I usually wasn't bothered by those comments but it hurt a little more than usual right now.
"No Sam, I don't have a plan. Right now my only plan is making sure she's okay. That's my plan." I said and scrubbed my face with my hands.
I was trying so hard to relax, but my hands were shaking with anxiety as her screams of pain filled my ears again.
I just needed her to be okay.

The Song of Souls
WARNING TO MY USUAL READERS: This is not my usual style of story. I've decided to turn this into an anthology of short one-shot stories, that are very atypical of my usual stories or style. Some will be horror, others romance, and others just stupid silly ideas I have. Basically, a collection of shorts I write when I need a break from my usual writing style. I'll include a summary at the start of each "chapter" telling you what to expect. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SUMMARY! The content and quality of each story will probably vary wildly. (One is even a horror romance featuring an eldritch horror. I promise it's weirder than it sounds.) If you do want to check out my usual writing, be sure to take a gander at my ongoing series, Of Men and Dragons. It's a bit of a long haul at this point, but hopefully it's worth the read!
