Colby's POV

"Alright dude, I think that's good." I said to Sam as we finished filming a video for my channel.

"Those tik toks were so dumb, man." Sam said as he leaned back in the couch. "I thought they were funny!" I defended as he chuckled. "Right, the only ones that were funny were the animal ones and you know it." He said as I shrugged.

"Whatever, I'm gonna send the footage to Reggie." I said then grabbed the camera and my laptop so I could upload the footage and email it to Reggie.

I walked over to my desk and started working as Sam scrolled through his phone on the couch.

I was so invested in my work I flinched when Sam started talking again. "Dude, there was a shooting at a hospital in LA." He said as I nodded slowly, not even really recognizing what he said.

"Did you even hear me, bro?" Sam asked as I nodded. "Yeah..shooting at a hospital." I mumbled then realized why he was so concerned. "What hospital?" I asked and stopped what I was doing to look at him.

"Greens." Sam said as my heart stopped. "Oh my god." I mumbled then got up to grab my phone. "The hospital is on lockdown after an employee was injured." Sam read as I sat next to him.

I felt my heart beating out of my chest as I grabbed my phone. "Does it say who the employee was? I need to know." I said and shakily found her contact to call her. "No, it just says there's one victim in critical condition." Sam explained as I called Violet.

It rang a couple times as I started to panic, "She's not answering Sam...she's not answering!" I exclaimed as he sat up. "Relax dude..that doesn't mean anything. They're in lockdown, she might not be by her phone." Sam said as Violet's phone sent me to voicemail.

"I don't like this." I mumbled and ran my fingers through my hair. "We can go to the hospital if you want." He suggested as I nodded. "Okay. I think I'll feel better about all of this if we go." I said as he nodded and stood up.

I felt my chest caving in as we made our way to the hospital. I didn't want to think something happened to Violet, but there was a nagging feeling in the back of my head that knew the victim was her.

When we got to the hospital there were dozens of police cars parked out front, barricading the doors. "Holy shit..." Sam mumbled as I got out of the car.

"What's going on?" I asked one of the officers, hoping he could tell me more information. "There was a shooting. Nobody goes in, nobody come out until the SWAT team comes." He explained as my heart started to race.

"Any victims?" I asked trying to keep my voice level. "Yeah, a 21 year old female." He said causing my heart to stop.

I went to ask another question but he walked off towards another group of officers. I could feel my hands shaking with fear as I turned to Sam. "Woah...hey it's okay. I'm sure she's fine." Sam said as he pulled me in for a hug.

"It's killing me...not knowing." I said and looked towards the hospital as the SWAT team showed up. I could t wrap my head around the fact that all of this was happening.

Even if Violet wasn't the one that was hurt she was still inside of a building with an active shooter in it and that scared the hell out of me.

I felt my phone buzzing in my pocket causing me to flinch and reach for it. I felt my heart drop when I looked at the caller ID to see it wasn't Violet calling me.

"Hey, Jake." I answered with a sigh. "Hey, where are you and Sam? I need help with something." He said as the SWAT team started making their way into the building. "Uh...we're at the hospital." I said as I watched the doors intently.

"What? Why? Is everything okay?" Jake asked with confusion in his voice. "There was a shooting at the hospital Violet works at." I explained as he gasped. "Shit, is she okay?" He asked as I shrugged. "I don't know. The SWAT team just got here." I said and shoved my hand in my pocket.

"Holy shit. Do you need us to come there too?" He asked as I shook my head. "We don't even know what's going on yet..she could be totally fine..god, I hope she's totally fine." I said as the front doors opened. The SWAT team was clearing every floor out one by one to ensure that everyone was background checked.

"Okay, I'm gonna try and call Corey to help me, keep me updated though." Jake said as I nodded and hung up, focusing on each face of the people walking out.

My heart raced as each unfamiliar face came out of the building. "Come on, Vi. Come on." I begged quietly as I watched the door.

"Do you see her?" Sam asked as he scanned the crowds as they came out. "No..." I mumbled as the SWAT team came out with someone cuffed. I couldn't see what they looked like they were led towards the police cars.

"I think they found the shooter..now we just have to wait until everyone comes out." Sam said as I nodded and kept my eyes on the door. I wanted a desperately go just run in there and go through every room until I could see with my own eyes that Violet was safe.

I pulled my phone out and stared at it, waiting for a call or text from Violet, but it never came.

We sat and waited for a really long time. I guess I was grateful because they were keeping the people that weren't injured safe but the nagging feeling in my stomach wouldn't let go the fact that there was a 21 year old girl that was injured.

I didn't want to see overprotective or clingy but I didn't know what I would do without Violet. I didn't know what I would do if something happened to her.

I knew that I had been a little overbearing when it came to her safety for the past few months but fact that there was someone actively threatening her made me nervous.

"Alright. The building is clear." One of the officers said causing my heart to ache. "Come on, let's go find her." Sam said and helped me up. I nodded then looked at my phone again.

She hadn't called or texted me yet but maybe she was just frazzled, or maybe she was helping the person injured.

Maybe I was just in denial.

We walked through the doors then made our way through the halls. A lot of people were confused about what happened, leading me to believe that they didn't really tell the people in the building about what happened.

We ran up the stairs to the floor I knew she would usually work on. I was grateful in this moment for the week that I spent picking her up from work because I would meet her up here, knowing exactly where she worked.

When we got up there I didn't see anyone that I recognized so I flagged down a random nurse. "Hey, do you know where Violet Richards is?" I asked as she shrugged.

"No idea..try asking Sophia. Her office is over there." The nurse said and pointed down the hallway to a room. "Okay, thank you." I said then started walking that way.

As we were walking I got an eerie feeling, noticing that there weren't nearly as many people on the floor working. It could have been because they evacuated and came back to work but something just felt off.

I knocked on the door and waited for an answer. "I don't think she's in there." Sam said as he huffed out a breath. "I'm freaking out man.." I said and tried calling Violet again.

"Can I help you?" A female voice asked from behind us as she sniffled and reached for the door handle. "Yeah, hi. My name is Colby and I'm looking for someone...the nurse over there told me you might know where she is." I said as she nodded.

I noticed there were tears in her eyes and her face was puffy as if she's been crying for a while.

"Who were you looking for?" She asked as I felt my heart race again. "Violet Richards." I said as she gasped slightly and closed her eyes, as if she was holding back tears. "Are you okay?" Sam asked quietly as she took a deep breath and looked at me.

"Violet was shot." She said as my heart shattered into a million pieces.

"I-is she dead? Where is she?! I need to see her!" I exclaimed as Sophia put her hands on my shoulders. "She's in rough shape. The person who shot her hit a major artery in her heart. She's still in surgery." She explained as I started to cry.

"N-no! No! S-she was fine this morning. She was fine." I cried out as Sam wrapped his arms around me.

I couldn't wrap my mind around what she had said. It's like I could hear the words but couldn't understand them.

"I'm so sorry.." Sophia said as I sobbed into Sam's shoulder. "She's gonna get through it, man. She's not going anywhere." Sam said as I nodded.

He was right, Violet was a force to be reckoned with. She was strong.

She was going to get through this.
