《His Unknown Child》Chapter 28: Prequel 1 - Part one

Just walk in cool. You're cool. Popular. Okay, maybe not popular, but you're cool.
Seventh grade baby! New seventh graders coming in.
I wonder if there's any new kids? Probably not. We do have a small school.
I don't know. Just walk in Ashton. Just-
"How long you gonna stand there and stare at the doors?" I turned my head to see the most prettiest girl I have ever seen in my thirteen years of living.
"Uh-hello?" She spoke again.
"What?" I asked confused. She shook her head and giggled. "I said are you gonna just stare at the doors?" Oh.
"Um, well, they are nice doors." I pointed out and she laughed again.
"I'm new here. So, I'm guessing you are too?" I shook my head this time and tried to speak.
"I-I go here. Not new. Diffidently not new." I laughed.
"Okay, in that case. May you show me to the main office?" I nodded and we started walking.
"Don't you have to go to the main office to register here?" I asked.
"I was sick the day my mom came here." Oh. My lips tightened into a straight line.
"Dad?" I wondered. Am I getting too nosy?
"Dad was home with me." She corrected. "Aren't we going the wrong way?" She asked.
I stopped and looked at the signs. Which said gym, pool, and weight room.
I slapped my forehead. "Dammit, sorry."
"Did you just swear?" She cringed.
"Dammit, oops. Uh- sorry. Are you not aloud to swear?" I questioned. Why am I so clumsy with her?
"God doesn't allow swearing. It is forbidden. Jesus is my savior and I can't let him down." I frowned. A "God" freak. Great. "Don't you believe in God?" She asked.
"No. I don't believe in any of that crap. I'm not religious, I'm spiritual. But I don't necessarily believe in "God" and "devil" stuff." I explained.
"Oh." She mumbled. "I'm not suppose to hang with anyone who doesn't believe in God. My apologizes." With that, she sped walked off in the direction she wasn't suppose go.
I for one, continued to walk to my assigned seventh grade locker. My locker was a deep dark blue. And the eight grade lockers are black. If you're wondering, our school mascot is Panthers. And last year, I had a light blue. I don't know why, but I guess that's how it is.
Locker number eighty-five. Combo, ten-zero-thirty. Not so bad. Pretty easy.
Once I had my locker opened, I saw my schedule. Yup, they put our schedules in our lockers so we wouldn't forget to grab them at the office.
When I slammed my locker shut, that's when I saw her. I didn't know her name, but it was her. And her locker was right next to mine. Lucky me.
She is cute, but very religious. Like so religious that she could probably speak to Jesus. Yeah, that religious.

"Oh, hi again." She mumbled and blushed. At least I can make we blush.
"Yeah, hi. What do you want?" I acted all uninterested and in a tone.
"Sorry, but we never had a proper greeting." I rolled my eyes. She coughed then spoke once again. "I'm Charlie Grace." Of course her last name is "Grace". Even more religious.
I chuckled. "Grace?" I chuckled again.
"Yeah, does there seem to be a problem with my last name?" I nodded rapidly.
"Of course there's problem with your last name. It's even more religious. I'm not the one to judge, but you're so clingy over this stupid "God" crap. No offense." I backed away.
I saw tears threaten in her eyes. "I respect people and their opinions, but you crossed the line. God and Jesus are going to be very disappointed in you." That's funny.
"Haha, I don't give a shit or two. You'll never find any friends here, you'll never find someone to love you. You might as well just go to a different school. But hey, don't listen to my "opinions" they cross the line." And with that, I left to my first class. Which I was late for.
~~~
"Oh look who we have here to join us. Mr. Burns. First day of seventh grade, and already late." Mrs. Flip snarled.
I rolled my eyes. "Can this one slip? It is my first day of seventh grade." I explained and started closing the door.
"Detention after school. Go sit in your seat now."
"That's not fair!" I shouted.
"I can make it two?" I huffed, but sat down. Seconds later, the doors opens, but appears to be Ms Jesus.
"Another one? Late on first day on seventh grade, Ms-?"
"Ms Grace. I'm new here." She pounded.
"Oh, my bad. It's okay if you were late dear." My jaw broke open.
Rage filled my body. I stood up from my chair and shouted.
"How come I get a detention and she doesn't? I was two minutes late, while she was seven." I protested.
"Sit down Mr. Burns. That's is two detentions now. Today and tomorrow."
"I can't tomorrow." I mumbled loudly.
"Why not?" She raged. I blinked.
Just lie. "My mom and dad are taking me to my brother's baseball game."
"You don't have any brothers." Shit, come up with something.
"I never take about it. He's in a major league. Graduated from college too." Please believe it.
"Alright. You only have today then." I smiled and nodded, then turned my head to see Morgan staring at me. I swear she still had a crush on me.
~~~
"Hey Ashton. Have you seen the new girl yet?" My best friend Marcus asked as we sat at our table.
"Yeah, she's a snob though."
"Like a Morgan snob or Chloe snob?" Morgan you see is captain of the volleyball team of seventh grade while Chloe is one of those cheerleaders. Not captain, but I bet you she will be in high school.

"Neither. She's a very, very religious snob. It's like she worships God. I don't even believe in that shit."
"Damn, now I don't want to meet her." Marcus cursed.
"I wish I hadn't. Where's Caleb and Jack?" I question.
"In line." I turned my head to see both of them in line. Dummy me.
"Oh, didn't see them." I said after I took a bite of my apple. "Ew." I squished the apple out of my mouth and it drooled out slowly. "Nasty." I grumbled, chucking my water.
"Soft?" I nodded.
"Very." Yuck.
"Oh my god, Ashton. Have you seen the new girl? Hot damn." Caleb wolf whistled.
Caleb is more of the "pre player". Not meaning anything mean. But he knows that we all think that.
Jack is the shyer one, but can get a good time on. He can be loud and annoying, but as far as anyone, he's the quietest.
"Yeah I have, unfortunately." I said back.
"We're only in seventh grade and already talking like we're high schoolers." Marcus laughed.
"I was thinking the same thing." I laughed with him.
"Do you think she'd be a good lay?" I cringed and made a disgusting noise.
"Gross man. Real gross." Marcus replied.
"What?" Caleb looked shocked.
"Really? Don't ask us if someone's gonna be a good lay. We're not the one that lost our virginity in sixth grade. Nasty." Jack opened up and we all chucked besides Caleb.
"Hey, Marisa was really cute. And besides, I couldn't ask her out or anything. She moved away, probably to China or something." Caleb corrected, but we all rolled out eyes. "Here she comes now." Caleb drooled.
She is cute. I'm gonna tell you that. But, I'm only in seventh grade and she is very holy. Goodie-two-shoes of God.
"I never caught your name. Mr. Burns." She presented.
"I guess you'll never catch my name." I shrugged, trying to ignore her.
"Don't listen to him doll. I'm Caleb. And who might you be?" Caleb butted in.
"Caleb." Jack and Marcus said in union.
"Charlie Grace." She said nice and tall.
"I like. Has a good ring to it." He winked. Oh my god, this lunch is gonna take forever.
"Why thank you. I'm guessing Caleb?" Caleb smirked after she said his name.
"Yes, Caleb Johnson." When has Caleb every been this nice? Never.
When will this be over?
"Your name has a nice ring to it too. Well, I must be off." FINALLY!
"No, please sit with us." Caleb offers. She hesitates but sits next to Caleb. "Tell me a bit about yourself." Caleb starts.
"Well, I'm Christian. If you couldn't tell. God and Jesus are my saviors. Sorry to sound possessive. But that's me. I have two cats. Mouse and Snickers. And I love to go to church." She smiled while her eyes were locking on Caleb's face.
"No way. I'm Christian too. God and Jesus are my heroes. No pets. And my family own a church." Me and the others looked at each other and tried not to laugh.
"Mine do too! We are so much alike. But if your super Christian and your parents are as struck as mine, then what are wearing? No mean to judge." Haha. Caleb's face went blank.
As of right now. Caleb is wearing black skinny jeans and a hoodie. One ear pierced, and wearing converses.
"Oh, once a month my parents let me wear what ever I want. So I kind of go all out." He smiled.
"Do you wanna hang out after school?" It's like me, Marcus, and jack are invisible.
"I'll see what I can do." Then, Charlie left and Caleb looked back at us.
We all just stared at him, then bursted out laughing. "Your parents own a church? Dude, last time your mom and dad got divorced." At that moment, we all stopped laughing. Forgetting one thing.
"And when was that? Ashton? When did they get a divorce?" I sat there silent. "When I was five. Then my mom died from cancer six month later." He got up and left the room. We all were in shock.
"How could you not remember?" Jack whispered across the table.
"I-I-I don't know. I was lost in the moment. It's just- he can't just lie to her like that." I explained.
"He's Caleb. We all know he'll confess later."
"Yeah, I know. But it's still wrong to just lie." I mumbled.
"Looks like Ashton had a little crush." Do I? No.
"I don't.-"
"Do to." Marcus laughed.
"Jack, come on. You always say it's wrong to lie to someone you just met. Expectably if they told the truth first."
"See you in English." Jack left.
"Yeah, you too."
"See you after school?"
"Yeah."
Then there was one.
"Mr. Burns." I groaned.
"Just leave me alone."
"No, I will not just leave you alone. When a lady wants to talk to you, you give them respect and listen." Really?
"Not like you girls listen to any of us guys."
She stayed silent, then changed the subject. "Why do you dislike me? I don't need people liking me, I just want to know why your being rube to me."
Just as I was about to speak, the bell rang. Saved by the bell, thank cows.

Beatrice Santello
An adult imagining of Beatrice Santello's life prior to the events of Night in the Woods. There are no explicit depictions of sex here, though there are obviously adult themes and situations involving it. I wasn't going to post it to Royalroad as I didn't think Fanfiction was okay here - but now I see it is and I am quite convinced it is the best work I've ever done yet, I've got to see what any fans of NitW think about it! The first chapter was originally written as a short vignette and wasn't intended to be continued into a full blown story. It was just intended to be moody and evocative. Even though anyone that has played Night in the Woods has a good idea how this must end, I hope it will still be worth the read. Also, since I've finished writing it, I'm going to post it as one big chapter dump all at once. Cover drawing by GreasyMojo and colored by me (with permission!). I don't think it should be too risque on it's own but I suppose I'll soon find out.
