《His Unknown Child》Chapter 46: Hold Me Up

Song: Tessa from Transformers: Age of Extinction by Steve Jablonsky
My body shivered as I heard no heart beat coming from the his body. He laid there helplessly as the seconds ticked away. The only sound from the room was the flat sound from the monitor.
"Daddy." I pulled my son closer to me as I hugged him tight. I could feel his cheeks get warmer and warmer and tears fall onto my lap.
"Shhh." I whispered softly in his ear as I too wanted to cry my eyes out.
I lifted up my head to watch as the room emptied. The only ones left were one nurse, my mom, and the monster. I stared directly at him in disgust, watching every move he made.
"Why are you still here?" I spat out.
He came closer to me and bent down. I grew nervous as if he was going to do something bad. "To make sure he's completely dead." He smirked after his sentence then walked back into the corner where he kept smirking.
I looked at the nurse who was standing behind the monitor that kept a long beep. She looked at me as if she needed my approval to turn off the machine. I nodded. She reached for the bottom but just as her finger hovered over it, it went beep.
The nurse looked confused as her head went back and fourth from Ashton and the monitor.
beep...........beep............beep...
I was too confused as what this could mean. Was it a glitch in the system? Was it a malfunction? Could Ashton be alive?
My head spun in circles at all the conclusions I had thought of. The nurse ran outside the room yelling for help as she pressed a bottom. "Code blue!" She yelled.
I backed away from Ashton's bed and moved to a corner out of the way. I looked at Aidan. "Mommy, what's happening?" I couldn't think of any words to spit out as I didn't even know what's happening.
"I'm not sure Aidan. But here." I motioned my mom to come near me. "Go with grandma okay?" My mom picked up Aidan.

"Mommy no!" Aidan screamed, but I could no longer hear him as my mom went out of the room.
I looked around to see the monster still in the corner but he looked angry. He looked angry at at the fact that Ashton would potentially be alive, which I damn hope he is.
A nurse approached me and told me I had to leave the room. I agreed and waited right outside the door. A few seconds later, the monster came out but he didn't even glance at me, he just walked right past me and left. I tried not to let the thought of him ruin my mood as I only hoped that Ashton was alive.
The sound of doctors from the room were loud and quiet. One moment there's silence, then the next there was yelling. I couldn't concentrate well knowing that doctors were yelling. I took it as a bad sign.
I looked at the clock that read five o'clock pm. It's been and hour since I stepped out of the room.
"I can't take this anymore." Speaking to myself. "I need-." My sentence was cut off from a door opening. My head jerked up to see the doctors coming out. Please no bad news. "Was it a malfunction? Is he actually dead?" None of the doctors seemed to answer my question until one stepped forward.
"Ms Grace, I assume?" He asked calmly. Almost to calm.
"Yes." My fingers were fiddling with each other.
"His heart did stop but then after a couple of minutes he started breathing in his own. We are still working on how this happened but in the mean time we are going to make sure he keeps breathing." A smile took over my face as I started crying in tears of joy.
"He's alive?" Making sure I didn't just hear random words.
"Yes, but we need to monitor him for the next couple hours if not days if something goes wrong. He will be put in the ICU for now." Okay Charlie, calm. Stay calm. Deep breaths.

"So I'm not just hearing things? He is really breathing?" My heart beat faster and faster.
"I assure you, you are not just hearing things Ms Grace." Tears of joy ran down my cheeks and the wave of concern was blown away.
"Am I able to see him now?" I couldn't wait. I needed to hear his heart beat.
"Unfortunately Ms Grace, you cannot. As I said, we need to monitor him very closely for the next couple hours. We'll have someone come for you when the time comes." Fair enough. He needs the rest to not die again.
"I understand doctors. Thank you so much." They all nodded and moved on to carry Ashton to the ICU.
I was able to glance at him as they wheeled him off and he looked well alive. His skin wasn't pale and gray like it was before, instead it's peachy and pink.
"Charlie." I jerked my head towards the sound of my mom coming around the corner.
"Oh mother!" I hugged her as best as I could, considering I'm still in the damn wheelchair. "He's alive mamma. Ashton's alive."
She let go of the hug and looked at me straight dead in the eyes. "Wait." Her head turned away. "Ashton's alive?" Her eyes locked back with mine and I nodded my head vigorously.
"Yes! He's alive!"
"Oh my goodness." I could tell her eyes were getting watery. "This is truly a miracle my dear."
And that it is. Ashton was brought back to me, as it was God or Ashton himself, I am still so grateful to witness such a memorial moment and I'm going to take advantage of that.
"Yes. He is stable. You can see him if you'd like." I nodded rapidly as I wheeled myself to him.
I saw his chest go up and down and I saw there were no tubes helping him either. A small laugh escaped my lips as I grabbed his hand. "Oh Ashton." I leaned my head against his hand and just looked at him. He looked more pink and more alive might I add. He didn't look like he was on the verge of dying.
"We'll give you some time." I heard someone say and with that, it was just me and Ashton.
A shot of guilt ran up me as I thought of Aidan. "I'm the worst mother Ashton." I wanted to go get Aidan but I really wanted a moment alone with Ashton. Just me and him. "If you can hear me, please do something. I need to know that you're okay." Of course he's not okay. He just died. My thoughts were interrupted by a squeeze in my hand. I looked down and saw Ashton's hand squeeze mine. Looking back up at his face I saw movement. "Ashton?" Tears formed in my eyes as I squeezed his hand back.
His eyes opened. Blinking rapidly trying to adjust to the light. He squeezed my hand again and turned his head. A smile grew on his lips. I smiled back. "Ashton. Oh my god." The tears finally fell down, but these were happy tears.
"Charlie." He coughed. I could tell he struggled talking.
"No. Don't speak." My finger pressed against his lips. "I missed you so god damn much." He smiled and I leaned into him. My face only a few inches apart from his. I looked at his lips and kissed them. I couldn't resist myself from not doing that. He gently touched my face and pulled back. He just stared into my eyes but eventually he pulled me back in and kissed me with so much passion. I couldn't feel anything anymore. All I could feel were sparks shooting through my body.
I released the kiss and put my forehead against his. Staring into his beautiful eyes, I let go of the words I've been holding back for a long time. "I love you."
