《Destroy Me (Book 1) A Supernatural Story》10- You're Thirty, Dean

The three of them start heading up the stairs, and after only getting to the second floor, Sam and Calliope look back to see Dean already out of breath. Finally arriving at the floor they needed, Calliope and Sam go through the fire exit door, and stand by the apartment door waiting for Dean to finally catch up to them. He comes through the door, and slowly walks up to them standing there, trying to catch his breath.
Sam picks at the lock on the door and eventually it opens and the three of them go in. They split up and start looking around for the chips, when Dean comes across a safe, "Sam, Callie" he calls out and they come over to him. "Dime-store model, piece of cake" he says as he starts trying to crack the safe open. He is having a hard time and Calliope and Sam sigh, as he continues to try.
"It's like Mission: Pathetic, watch out" Sam says pushing Dean out of the way as he very easily opens the safe, inside are the magic chips they had been looking for.
"I could have done that" Dean says to him, as Sam starts to steal the chips.
"What are you doing?" they then hear a woman say, and turn to see a blonde standing in the room.
"Aren't you the chick from the bar?" Dean asks as he tries to take a closer look at her.
"I'm a lot more than that" she says as she reaches out and starts to use magics on the boys, and they both start groaning in pain, as Calliope barely feels it.
"It's all right, sweetheart, it's all right, they're harmless" Patrick comes up to her saying.
"You boys want chips? Take them. They're just chips, Einsteins. It's showmanship. This may come as a shock, but the magic does not like in a pile of crappy plywood or in any phony abracadabra. It's in the 900-year-old witch. You three want years, score them the old-fashioned way." He says to them placing a toothpick in his mouth, "Texas Hold'em" he then says.
"Fine, let's do it" Dean then says to him.
Patrick then takes the right of hearts out of his pocket and holds it up, "What card am I holding up?" he asks Dean and Dean clearly can't read it. "That's what I thought, if your eyesight's that bad, what about your memory? I'm not a murderer" he says to Dean, "You two on the other hand" he then says looking at Calliope and Sam.
"No, Callie, Sam" he says to them.
"Dean" Sam says back at him.
"What Sam and Callie not much of a player?" Patrick asks, "Okay, well happy trails, Dean. Enjoy the twilight of your life. Should have taken better care of that ticker, though. You're free to go" he then says as he goes and opens the front door, and Dean walks out. Calliope and Sam start to walk out behind him, "Oh, and Sam, your brother's situation, that's punishment enough, but I can't let you leave without a small parting gift" He says to Sam as he then claps three times.
"What are you doing?" Sam asks him.
"You'll find out soon enough" Patrick winks at him.
"Get out of here, Callie, Sam" Dean then says to them, and the three of them then leave. Finally getting back downstairs the three of them start to head out as Sam starts to feel very uncomfortable and starts to walk funny, "Dude...I believe that he-witch gave you the clap" Dean says to him and Sam just walks away and Calliope and Dean both lightly chuckle.

The next day the three of them are out in the parking lot of the motel, as they walk up the parking lot ramp, "A little help here" Bobby calls out.
"Sorry Bobby" Calliope says as she then helps push him up the ramp.
"You know, I still think I should play" Sam says to Dean, and Dean stops, so they all stop.
"No, you're not good enough. I'm better, Bobby's way better. We both lost" Dean tells his brother.
"Exactly" Bobby says as Calliope turns him around to face the brothers.
"So what? So I don't get a say in this anymore?" Sam asks them.
"Sammy, when you get to be our age—" Dean starts to say.
"You're 30, Dean. Look I've watched you hustle plenty of poker" Sam says to hom.
"Knowing the game is not enough, Sam. It's not about playing the cards" Bobby explains.
"It's about playing the other guy, I know that" Sam tells him.
"Hooray for you, all I'm saying is I played this guy. I know his style, I can take him" Bobby says.
"No, Bobby, you don't have enough years in the bank" Dean tells him.
"I got enough" Bobby says.
"You will die if you lose Bobby" Calliope then shouts at him.
"So, what if I do, huh? What exactly am I living for, huh? The damn apocalypse! Watching men die while I sit in this chair, can't take a step to help them" Bobby shouts at the three of them.
"Bobby" Dean says to him.
"No, no, it's the facts. I'm old...and broke down, and I can't--, I ain't a hunter no more" Bobby then says to them, "I'm useless" he says this and Calliope can feel her eyes swell up with tears, "And if I wasn't such a coward..I'd have stuck a gun in my mouth day I got home from the hospital" he says to the three of them and they all look at their mentor, sadness in their eyes.
"Bobby, you are not going to play again, because I am not going to let you, and I know these two are with me. There has to be another way out of this, there just has to be" Calliope says to him.
"There's gotta be...and I'm gonna find it" Sam says to them, "Callie watch over these two" Sam then says to her and she nods at him as he walks away.
The three of them head back to the motel room, Calliope pushing Bobby, as Dean unlocks the door. They enter the room to see the woman that they had met the night before seated on the bed, "Take it" she says holding a piece of paper out to them, "It'll help you"
Bobby then wheels his self over to her, taking the paper, "What is this?" he asks her.
"Most powerful reversal spell....you've ever laid your eyes on" she explains.
"And it reverses what exactly?" Calliope asks her.
"Patrick's work, all of it" she tells us.
"You saying I could be normal again?" Dean asks her.
"You and everyone else he's ever played...who's still alive" she explains to them.
"Why the hell should we trust you?" Dean then asks her.
"Trust me, don't trust me, I don't care" she says standing up, "the spell is real" she says as she starts to leave.
"If it zaps everyone, don't that include your man?" Bobby asks her.
"And me too, I look good for my age" she tells him.
"Lady, this don't add up for squat. Why would you want that?" Bobby asks her.

"I have my reasons" she says as touches the locket around her neck, "Do it quick, we leave town tomorrow" she says as she walks out the door.
After looking over the spell the three of them get started on gathering what was needed to do the spell, they were currently in a graveyard digging up one of the items. "a jawbone of a murderer, great" Dean says as him and Calliope were digging up the grave. "How do we even know her spell's gonna work?" he asks looking at Bobby.
"We don't, we ain't got a plan B. Now less flapping and more digging" Bobby tells him.
Dean then starts to dig again when we hear a crack, "Oh god, my elbows, I'm all creaky" he complains.
"Go sit down you crybaby" Bobby then says to him,
"Pound it up your ass, Ironsides" Dean bickers back at him.
"One little grave" Bobby says to him and Calliope tries not to laugh at the two of them bickering with one another.
"Then you do it" Dean says to him.
"Fine, I'll hop right in" Bobby says sarcastically.
"Well, at least your legs are numb" he says.
"Would you two just stop it, go sit down grandpa" Calliope then says as she continues digging.
Once they get the bone, the three of them head back to where they knew Sam was now playing Patrick. Calliope and Dean go up to the door, as Sam bursts out it, "How's it going in there?" Dean asks him.
"How do you think it's going?" Sam asks him. "What about you two? Have everything you need?" he then asks.
"All that's left is something with the he-witches DNA" Calliope tells him.
Sam then takes something out, and shows them a toothpick, "He was chewing it" he tells them as Calliope takes it. "Hurry up, you two, please" he says.
"All right, just keep him busy and, Sammy...don't lose" Dean tells his brother. He then walks back inside the building as Calliope and Dean head back to the van. They get everything ready to do the spell, and Bobby begins the incantation. Telling Dean to drop the toothpick in, he does so, and they wait a moment.
"Well, how do I look?" he then asks them, and they see that he is still old.
"We got screwed" Bobby then says to him.
After realizing that the spell didn't work, they decide that the only thing that was messed up was the toothpick. "We've gotta get some new DNA" Calliope tells Bobby and Dean as Bobby drives back toward the apartment building hope they can get what they need to break this spell properly. Dean and Calliope go up to the apartment, and start to look around for anything. They were having a hard time finding anything. "The place is clean Bobby" Calliope tells him on the phone.
"Just find anything" he tells her. Just as she sees a wine glass, she hears a thud, and looking over she see's Dean laying on the ground.
"Dean...Dean" she calls out and goes over to him, "Dean....Dean" she cries out.
"Callie, Callie, you there?" she can hear Bobby calling out from her phone. Calliope could feel the tears going down her cheeks as she watches Dean dying on front of her eyes. She leans down on him, crying, "Don't go, please don't go" she says to him as she then starts trying to perform CPR on him. After a few tries of CPR nothing happens and she's afraid that Dean may be gone.
She sits there crying, upset that they actually couldn't save him, and that she never got the chance to say to him how she truly felt. She sits there looking at Dean, when suddenly he gasps, and he changes right in front of her eyes, becoming his regular self once again. He goes to sit up and Calliope wraps her arms around him, holding onto him tightly.
"Whoa, whoa Callie, I'm okay..I'm okay" he says to her.
"I thought you were dead Dean, I thought I was watching you die again" she says to him.
"I'm sorry" he says to her.
"Never do that again" she swats him.
"Hey" he says to her.
"Come on Bobby's probably worried sick" she then says to him as she helps him get up. Picking up her phone the two of them head out of the apartment and head back downstairs. They walk out the door, and Dean looks over at Bobby in his van, and smiles at him and he does a little dance.
"No tricks? You actually beat the guy?" Bobby asks Sam, still not believing it, Sam just throws his hands up, "How the hell--?"
"Just lucky" Sam says as he grabs his jacket and starts to head out the door. "All right, I'll see you guys later" he then says as he walks past Dean.
"Where you going?" Dean asks him.
"Nowhere" Sam tells him, Dean then looks down and then back up at him, "Booster shot, don't say it" Sam says as he then walks out of the room.
"Well, I guess we can get the van loaded" Bobby says wheeling around to leave.
Dean stands there for a second clearing his throat, "I shouldn't have called you an idiot" Dean then says to him.
"Which time?" Bobby asks.
"I'm sorry. I mean, I actually—I get it. Getting old ain't a bachelor party, dealing with the crap you gotta deal –" Dean says.
"Don't you go on pity patrol" Bobby inturppts him.
"I'm not. I'm not, I'm just—I'm saying, if I was in your shoes—" Dean says.
"You'd never stop complaining" Bobby says to him.
"Fair enough" Dean says to him, "You're not useless Bobby" he then adds.
"Okay, good talk" Bobby says not believing it as he starts to leave.
"No, you listen to me" Dean says as he sits down, "You don't stop being a soldier because you got wounded in battle okay? No matter what shape you're in, bottom like is you're family. Now, I don't know if you noticed, but me and Sam, we don't have much left. I can't do this without you, I can't. So don't you dare think about checking out. I don't wanna hear that again" Dean tells him.
"Bobby, Dean's right, you and these boys are the only things in my life right now. You took care of me after my parents died, you are like a father to me, and this this isn't you. You fight with everything you've got left. I know you can, and I agree with Dean, I don't wanna hear you give up" Calliope says as she places a hand on Bobby's shoulder.
Bobby looks up at her then at Dean, "okay" he says to them.
"Okay" Dean and Calliope both say to him.
"Good" Dean then also says.
"Thanks" Bobby then says to them, "Are we done feeling our feelings? Because I'd like to get out of this room before we both start growing lady parts" Bobby says looking at Dean.
"Hey" Calliope remarks lightly hitting the old man.
"No offense" Bobby says to her.
"Yeah, we're done" Dean says a he then gets up, picking up his burger, he looks at it before dropping it back onto the table. "Let's go Ironsides" Dean then says to Bobby as he picks up his duffle bag.
"Oh, that one's sticking, huh?" Bobby says as Calliope pushes him out behind Dean, what both Calliope and Dean didn't see was the tears swelled up in Bobby's eyes as they leave the motel.
