《Clato》chapter seven

Clove carefully hopped off the chariot and waited. Brutus, Enobaria the stylists and Candice soon arrived.
"Ready to see where you sleep, tributes?" Candice asked.
Cato didn't answer, he looked over at the district twelve tributes. Their alcoholic mentor looked back at him.
"Sure, why not?" Clove answered, nudging Cato.
"Yeah" Cato said, whipping back around.
"Well, come along then!" Candice said as she walked off. Clove followed her to the elevator.
Cato walked with Candice, looking around a bit.
As the elevator rose, Clove felt a bit uneasy. It was only seconds before it stopped again though.
"Here we are tributes, floor two, same as your district!" Candice's voice as she announced it made it seem like it was the best news in the whole world.
Clove walked out of the elevator and into the large room.
Cato walked out and looked around; he wasn't too surprised or excited.
Clove liked the look of the new house, minus the colors. They seemed so bright in contrast to her mood.
"Here is your room, Clove." Candice announced, motioning to a door left of the entrance. Clove entered. She liked it.
"And here is your room, Cato." Candice motioned to a door right of the entrance.
* * *
"Thanks." Cato murmured and went in to get changed, shutting the door behind him tightly.
Clove looked at the clothes. She grabbed a pair of skinny jeans and a shirt and put them on. She waited in the room until there was a knock on the door.
"Dinner's ready" came Enobaria's voice into Clove's room.
Cato had dressed in a pair of jeans and a white shirt, he had had a shower. His blonde hair darkened from the water.
Clove walked out of the room. She saw Brutus go to Cato's room, and hurried out with Enobaria and got on the elevator.

Cato threw the towel on the bed and sat down.
Clove entered the dining room and sat down next to Enobaria.
"Waiter!" Enobaria called.
The waiter came in a hurry.
"Start the meal now. The others will be here shortly and we are hungry."
Cato was summoned, so he came out, walking out into the dining area.
Clove looked up and saw Cato entering with Brutus, then looked down and continued eating.
Cato sat down and looked across at Clove.
Clove looked up, feeling his gaze.
Cato couldn't look away, he couldn't, it had been so long since he looked her directly in the eye.
Clove started to tear up again. She remembered looking into his eyes before she got reaped.
She mouthed the words "I love you."
Cato looked away a second, then back at her.
"I love you too." He mouthed back, reaching under the table and stroking her hand gently.
* * *
Clove smiled. He still loved her. She blew a kiss to him before continuing her meal. She didn't want the others finding out.
Kaiden entered with Cato's stylist and they sat down.
Cato pretended to not acknowledge her for the rest of dinner.
As soon as the meal finished Clove went back to her quarters, waiting for Cato to come back upstairs.
Cato stayed downstairs for another twenty minutes before heading up towards his room, before going there he dropped in on Clove. He knocked on the door lightly.
"It's me,"
"Come in!" Clove replied. It was so good to be talking again.
Cato opened the door quietly and poked his head in. "Hey."
Clove walked up to Cato and greeted him with a hug. It felt like forever since she'd been able to do this.
Cato wrapped his arms around her carefully.
"I'm sorry.. And I want to give you something.." He said and removed something from his pocket. A beautiful diamond ring. "Clove, if we make it out alive I want to marry you," he told her. "You're my life, and I'm sorry I acted like a jerk."

Beta Test
I'm sure I'm in for some colorful criticism, But if even a few people enjoy this, I'd be happy. As of right now the story is set in Delaware around 2005'ish'. A young man from the streets, aquires a beta test invitation in an unorthodox way. The plan is to have a comical adventure in an experimental virtual reality game. I can easily transition it to a full story if its well received. If not I hope atleast one person kinda likes it. P.s. This is a work of fiction, with made up characters. Any likeness is coincidence.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
