The white light shining in my eyes blurs my vision.
"Ah!" I say rather loudly.
I bring my hand to my head and feel the bandage wrapped securely around my cranium.
"Rosie?" I hear Max's voice, and I feel pressure release on my legs.
"What!" I say rather annoyed with the bright light. The room catches me off guard, "Where am I?"
"Rosie! Rosie you're awake!" Max says getting up and moving towards me.
"No shit Sherlock. Where am I?"
"In the hospital?"
"Why?"
"You don't remember?" He looks at me confused.
"All I know is my head is pounding!"
"I'll go tell the doctor." He leans in close to my face, as if he were about to kiss me.
"Ewww!" I say smacking him, "Gotten all lovey dovey on me have you?"
"What?"
"Dude you are my best friend not boyfriend."
"Rosie, what do you remember."
"I remember, something about history, and my parents and me."
Max, looks at me confused, he then laughs.
"Nice one Rose girl!" He says in between chuckles.
"You are officially weird!" I say laughing than stopping abruptly for dramatic effect.
"Wait you are serious?" Max stops looking concerned.
"Yes! Oh God! Wait! Why am I in here?" I look at Max worried, he walks out quietly.

"Mom! Dad!" My parents walk through the doors, along with a doctor and Max.
My mom runs towards me and hugs me.
"You had us worried sick!" She says kissing my forehead.
I smile up at her. They take their seats
My dad talks and everyone listens.
"Rosie, what do you remember." My dad asks.
"I remember it being my birthday and I remember waking up and seeing the look on your guy's face. Then I know you told me something important," I think really hard, and they all look at me with worried eyes, "That is it."
"Rosie, you were chosen..." My dad says seriously.
"Chosen for what?" I ask.
"For the Hunger Games." My stomach drops, "Rosie, you are suffering from severe memory loss."
"No. That can't be right." I look at my mom, "Mom."

Max turns his face away.
"You tried to kill yourself!" Max shouts.
"Max." My mom says softly.
"What?" I look at the three of them confused, "Mommy. Mommy what happened."
Max walks over to me and cups my hand in his face.
"You loved me once, you can love me again." He pulls me in and holds the kiss for twenty seconds, I counted.
I have to admit, it didn't feel bad.
When we pull away, a flicker of a memory twinges in my brain.
"Max!" My dad shouts.
"No it helped." I say calmly., my eyes locked on Max's.
"I knew it." Max says quietly.
"I need details." I say turning back towards my parents, "Things that happened. I need to touch things, and hear things."
"The video." Max says.
"We promised not to show that to her until she was ready." My dad says.
"We have no choice." Max looks from my dad to me.

The T.V. is large.
"What are we watching." I say as Auntie Effie prepares her makeup.
"We are watching, The Hunger Games." Max says putting his arm around me.
I don't become grossed out as I used to when he did this kind of thing to annoy me, I actually feel like I belong in his arms. I guess I find it very comforting.

I ran out when the sword when through Molly's chest.
Though my chest and ankle made it hard to run, I did, hospital gown and all.
The crisp air helps clear my mind, as look out at District Thirteen.
I have no recollection of this place, like I should.
No memories of growing up here.
I was born here and traveled to twelve when I was four. My parents wanted me to grow into a child in a secure environment, where I couldn't run off. So from zero on, I lived in a bomb shelter underground and only went above once a week to play hide and seek in the meadow.
Although I don't have any memories of this place, I do remember moving. I remember meeting Max, and playing hide and go seek with another child for the first time.

They were different with Dare, they let him rome about District Twelve as much as possible.
"I thought you'd be up here." I hear Max say from behind me.
I wipe some tears from my cheek.
"She died. Along with Finny and everyone else I loved." I say trying to hold back the tears.
"You loved me." Max says, I turn away from him and walk towards the edge.
I walk along the railing as if it were a balance beam.
"Don't you ever get tired of being brave?" Max's words send a memory in my direction, my head spins as I try to catch it, I start to fall, teetering side to side.
Max catches me.
"We had our first kiss on a roof you know." He says as I hang over the railing.
"Could you pull me up?" I ask slightly terrified.
"Admit that you are scared and I will let you up."
"I am never afraid! And I do not lie!"
"Say it!"
"Never! I'd rather fall to my death than say that I am scared!"
"If that is what you want." He loosens his grip, I scream, "Say it!"
"Max!"
"Say it!"
"Max, I'm scared!"
Just as I say those words a memory comes flooding from my brain.
"Max!" I shout as the memory fades.
"Do you remember now?"
I punch him.
"I remember the gurney. It was very hard!"
"It's a start." He sets me down, "Do you remember what I said to you while you were on the gurney?"
I blush, I was hoping to avoid this part.
"Yes." I cough.
"What was it?"
"Max points at his ear?"
"Ugh!" I say in a nasaly voice.
"Hmmm?" I don't say anything, "Hmmm?"
"I. Love. You." I say looking at the ground.
He lifts my chin with a finger and smiles.
"Dig deeper."
"Just..." I say calmly thinking, "Just think happy thoughts."
"That-a-girl."
"Enough thinking and kiss me already." I say shocked.
He kisses me gently and another memory comes through.
"You gave me morphine!" I say like an angry two year old.
He kisses me again, and another memory floods back.
"And laughed at Genyss!" I say.
He kisses me again.
"And." I fall.
"It was bound to come sooner or later." He says sadly.
I start shaking violently remembering my nightmares while I was out.
Max hugs me and hums his lullaby.
"I gave it words you know." I say.
"Do you remember them?" He asks.
I nod and begin to sing.
"Come in, come in my father dear
And spend this hour with me
For I have a meal, a very fine meal
And I fixed it up for thee, thee
I fixed it up for thee
No, I ain't commin' in, I ain't commin' in
To spend this hour with thee
For I have to go down in the mines
I return this night to thee, thee
I return this night to thee
Did she got up her arrow and her bow
Her arrow and her string
And she went down to the forest deep
And sweetly she did sing, sing
And sweetly she did sing
Up spoke, up spoke a mockingjay
From a willow tree
You had a father in the mines
Who's gone this day from thee, thee
Who's gone this day from thee
Woe be woe be mockingjay
Woe be woe be to thee
I'll send an arrow through your heart
For to bring such news to me, me
For to bring such news to me
Up spoke, up spoke that mockingjay
Don't waste your time with me
Go home and mind that pretty little girl
Her father no more to see, see
Her father no more to see
She went home to her house that night
That house so cold and mean
And she held her sister close to her side
And never more did sing, sing
And never more did sing." I finish and he claps.
"Max." I say.
"Yes?" He answers.
"I really am scared now."
"Just think happy thoughts." He says grabbing my hand.
"That is the problem. Every memory is where something goes wrong."
"Then find something good in the bad."
