《Daughter (Hunger Games Fan-Fic) {Watty Awards 2015} (COMPLETED)》Chapter 26

I toss and turn all night unable to sleep. My mind buzzes with thoughts and plots all about tomorrow's mission. Every time I shut my eyes nightmares of voices haunt me until I can't even blink. Max must've heard the commotion because I can hear him awake in the other room, flipping pages of his book and opening the fridge every hour.
I stand up and shuffle my feet towards the kitchen where I hear Max gulping down a drink of some kind, but I get there too late and find Max gone from the kitchen and back in his bed. So instead I walk towards the living room.
I find him awake in the early morning light sipping on a cup of tea.
"You were bound to come sooner or later." He lifts up the blankets and pats the bed beside him.
I smile, and close and lock the door behind me taking up his offer.
"Now pay up!" He says squeezing me tightly.
I kiss his lips gently.
When we pull away our eyes lock and Max leans in again.
That is when the electricity starts flowing through our bodies. Every second another spark flies. With every kiss I feel a shock of electricity that clears my mind.
He presses his hands against the bed beside me as I wrap my arms around his neck.
I smile his tongue slipping through my lips.
The kiss just grows more passionate until my shirt is risen past my stomach right below my bra line and he is shirtless.
I pull away gasping for air.
Than I scoot towards him and remove my shirt, wearing only my white bra.
"There now we are even." I smile again as he kisses my nose.
He wraps his arms around me and tucks his head in between my shoulder and my neck.
His bare chest against my back sends chills through my body.
"Why are you so damn perfect all the time?" He asks.
"Because of you." I smile and close my eyes falling into a deep sleep.

I wake up to the smell of coffee, and my little brothers footsteps running towards me. I grab my shirt and throw it on as quickly as possible.
"Rosie?" My little brother looks at me tears in his eyes.
"Oh Dare what's the matter?" I pick him up and put him on my lap.
"You said. You-" He looks at the floor dramatically.
"I said what?"
"You said you wouldn't leave me."
"I am not leaving you. I am going on a trip and I will be back soon. I would never leave you permanently, only temporarily."
"But if you are there no one is here to take care of me."
"Auntie Melony!"
"No Rosie. I want Mommy." I stay silent for a moment and then set him down on the bed, pulling on some rain boots.
"How about Daddy." I ask smirking.
I run up ten flights of stairs and take a very humid elevator another five levels before I reach my father's floor.
It doesn't take very long to navigate his doctor, or his room, only a matter of minutes.
The doctor escorts me down several long hallways with rooms that look like prison cells with screaming adults and children being held captive inside each one.
"Here he is. Patient 1328." The doctor says smiling and pressing buttons on a small pad lock.
My father sits in a chair in the corner. A one sided mirror sits behind him, and I can almost see the several doctors looking nervous over my visit.
"Dad." I say softly.
He just sits there looking at the floor.
"Dad, look at me! I am fine. My memories may not be here but I am. And I am fourteen, and falling for someone who I need my dad to hate, for stealing his little girl away from him." My dad shakes a little.
I stare at his blank expression.
"Dare needs you, Dad." He takes a deep breath in, "I brought you something." I reach into my pocket and pull out a small sheet of orange paper, "It is your favorite color. Remember?" I grab his hand and open his palm, setting the paper in it gently.

He squeezes it and pulls his hand towards his heart.
"Daddy, I need you." I say tears welding up in my eyes.
I turn away but a hand catches my face and brings it back to face him.
"I am right here." My father says pulling me in for a hug.
***************************************************************************************************************
The doctors were amazed at how quickly my dad responded to my voice, and how quickly he was back to normal. They said they would send him home in a week, but until then Dare was just going to have to wait, and surprisingly Dare was good with it.
But now it is time for the hard part, saying goodbye.
"I love you." I smile kissing his forehead.
He smiles happy to be outside again. I stare at the black jeeps behind him, waiting to take him back to thirteen grounds. Each one bulletproof with tinted windows.
"I love you too!" He sounds overly excited.
I ruffle his hair and grab my backpack.
"See you later, Dare." I wink at him and he winks back.
I board the black SUV's, several soldiers surrounding me, including Max.
I peak at Dare, his blond hair blowing in the breeze as he gets buckled into his seat.
The jeeps begin driving away and I keep my attention on them, turned in my seat so I am staring out the back of the car.
It happens in a blink, the world begins to move in slow motion, Dare's car starts swerving right as the bombs start going off.
"Dare!" I scream, "Stop the car! Stop the car!"
The driver doesn't do what I am telling them to do, instead he speeds up and Max puts his hand over my mouth.
I start shaking violently.
I bite Max's hand and start kicking.
"Let me out!" I scream at the topp of my lungs.
"Rosie calm down." Max says a bit shaky.
The car takes several violent turns.
I start to cry but wipe the tears away quickly.
Max holds my shaking body with immense strength, and I don't say a word the rest of the ride.
***************************************************************************************************************
"What was that?" I shout at Max and Gale, the train rocking back and forth.
"I understand you are angry, but there is nothing we could do. We are waiting to hear if they survived." Gale says reassuringly.
"Are you crazy? My little brother is back there! He is the only thing I have left!" I scream at them.
That is when I lose control.
I jump on Gale and throw several punches. I am not surprised to see Gale black and blue by the time Max gets me off of him.
"You are killers!" I scream.
Then the room flashes, a twinge of memories, the first in almost a year.
I black out.
***************************************************************************************************************
I wake up to Max's hand in mine.
"Where am I?" I say blinking my eyes.
I try to move but find I am tied to a chair, Max in the chair behind me.
"We are in two... They told me to tell you the plan." He explains everything in great detail, "Act scared, understood?" I nod and wait for the Capitol to come.
It is hours before we hear gunshots and the guards come walking through the doors.
"Thank God!" I shout faking a few tears.
Max is very polite and smiles hugging the soldiers that "rescue" us.
I laugh continuously.
"Max we are going home!" I grab onto Max as we are escorted out of the building and into a hovercraft.

Meek
After failing as an apprentice cooper and a town guard, Eli finds his place at the Rockbridge archives. Sure, he's the oldest 'junior scribe,' but he likes the job. And he's good at it, too. Then he completes an apparently-insignificant project, and the brutal reaction shocks him--with consequences that eventually shake the world. Eli gains powers. Rare and inhuman abilities. He progresses slowly, steadily, and not without setbacks. He changes, too. Is he a hero, a villain, a human, a monster? Depends who you ask. Meek is an epic fantasy with elements of progression. The basic magic is simple: five Paths, each with a different powerset. However, complexity arises from combinations, and the protagonist wields a magic all his own. Meek is set in the Valley, the only (as far as anyone knows) human empire that survived a Final Battle against a terrible foe. The Valley is warded against infiltration, but the enemy learned how to warp human souls, to foment discord within. However, another soul is also ... changed. Perhaps even 'warped.' And that soul is starting on a long (long, long) path that might, one day, prove that the Final Battle wasn't so final after all.
