《Elegance | Harry Potter》Year 5-2 | Special Quill

I sat beside Hermione in the DADA class when my attention was drawn to a paper bird flying around the room gracefully. The students all watched playing with the bird and I stared at it carefully. Flying ever so gracefully and so freely, it looked like a dream. A small smile appeared in my face until the bird burnt down on to the Patil twins' desk. In the back of the class was the lady in pink smiling with her wand pointed out.
"Good morning children. Ordinary, Wizarding level Examinations. O,W,L, or commonly known as Owls!" She pointed her wand at the chalkboard in the front writing the words down as she made her way in front of the class.
"Study hard, and you'll be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences may be severe" Umbridge continued. She flicked her wand at a stack of textbooks which flew itself down on to each of our desks. 'Dark Arts Defense for Beginners'. For beginners? We're in our fifth year for Merlin's sake. I flipped through the book and there were only theories, nothing about using defensive spells. Because when fighting the dark lord all we need to know are theories, amazing.
"There's nothing in here about using the defensive spells?" Hermione raised her hand.
"Well I can't imagine why you will need to use spells in my classroom!" Umbridge scoffed in such a high voice.
"We're not gonna use magic?" Ron furrowed his eyebrows at her.
"We're not going to be learning about defensive spells in a secure risk-free ways" Risk-free for the ministry of course, because they're afraid of Dumbledore using 15 year olds to overthrow the minister.
"Well what use is that, if we're going to be attacked then it won't be risk-free" Harry blurted out.
"Students will raise their hands when they wish to speak. It is the view of the ministry that a theoretical knowledge would be sufficient to get you through your examinations which is what school is all about"
"And how's theories supposed to prepare us for what's out there?" Harry continued.
"There is nothing out there, who would you imagine would attack children like yourself?"
"Oh i dunno, maybe Lord Voldemort?"
The class went into whispers. His name sent shivers down my spine almost immediately. Umbridge looked a little thrown back but kept a forced fake smile.
"Well let me make this, quite clear. You have been told that a certain dark wizard is at large once again. This is a lie"
"It's not a lie! I saw him I fought him!"
"DETENTION Mr. Potter"
"So according to you Cedric Diggory dropped dead at his own accord?"
My heart dropped again as Hermione grabbed onto my hand tight. The usual grief I would feel and the tears that would fall from my eyes didn't come. I only felt anger and hatred.

"Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident"
"IT WAS MURDER! YOU KNOW WHO KILLED HIM, YOU MUST KNOW THAT!" I yelled out slamming the desk.
"ENOUGH!"
"NO. NOT ENOUGH, you're TRASHING his name" I got up out of my seat glaring at her. She only smiled and slowly walked towards me with her chin upright.
"You're trashing your family's name Miss Clermont. So much like your father, mother too, perhaps?" I glared at her as the class broke into whispers. "Detention for you too"
Hatred, the only thing I felt right now. My fists were tightly clenched but I couldn't say anything, everyone knows it's the truth. I'm the daughter of a death eater, one that killed her own husband. I slowly sat back down feeling my lips quiver, I will not let myself cry. That would be losing to Umbridge.
***
Harry and I walked inside Umbridge's office, it was all pink. Too much pink. In the middle Umbridge sat eyeing the two of us with a smile, one that makes my blood boil.
"Please, sit down"
Harry looked at me for assurance and I nodded. The two of us sat down next to each other right across Umbridge. Her office was bizarre, on the walls pictures of cats filled her room. There was not a single part in this room that wasn't pink. In front of us was parchment and an hourglass.
"You two are going to be doing lines for me today" Harry reached for his bag to take out his quill, "Not with your quill. You both are going to be using a rather special one of mine" She stopped Harry and placed down a brown quill on top of our parchment.
"I want you to write, I must not tell lies" She continued looking at me with her fake smile.
"You haven't given us any ink" I replied with an emotionless face.
"You won't be needing one"
Harry looked at me once again before we started to write on our parchment. The ink came out of the quill itself without me dipping it.
'I must not tell lies'
I felt a sharp pain on the back of my hand. I dropped my quill surprised to look at it to see letting getting carved into my skin. The quill was using my blood as ink. I turned to see Harry who was also examining the back of his hand where letters started to carve into his skin.
"Is there a problem, Miss Clermont?"
"Problem? There's many, Profesor Umbridge. If my father had known about this you would be sacked immediately"
"And your father is dead"
Anger, a rush of hated and anger came over me. I stood up and threw the paper and the quill on the floor glaring into her eyes.

"Pick it up please Miss Clermont"
"No" I snapped back.
"Sit down, have respect for your teacher"
"You deserve the least respect"
A cold slap ran across my face. Harry quickly got out of his seat standing in between Umbridge and I pulling me close towards him. I held him back to stop him from lunging at her to avoid him getting into more trouble. His eyes were filled with anger and his breath was uneasy.
"You deserve the least respect Miss Clermont. Your family's name is trashed to the ground" She smiled at Harry and I, "Pick up the paper and quill, and continue to write the lines for me if you don't want to be expelled"
I pulled Harry away back to his seat and sat beside him. His body was tense, but we both know we can't do anything against a teacher. I gritted my teeth picking up the parchment and the quill glaring at her.
"Go on" She said almost as if she was mocking me. I grabbed onto Harry's hand and started to write. I pressed hard on the getting the lines carved deeper into my skin, the whole time my grip on Harry's hands getting tighter by the second. Umbridge looked down at us pleased with the smile on her face, disgusting.
"I think we're done now" I said pulling Harry out of the office not looking back. We had written 2 lines and I've just had had enough with her bullshit.
"Are you alright?" Harry turned me around to face him. He grabbed my hand and examined the back of it tracing his fingers over the scar. I winced a little and he quickly pulled away. Without saying anything I just hugged him, wrapping my arms around his waist and resting my head on his shoulder.
"Stay like this for a bit please?" I asked not looking up. I felt him nod his head as he wrapped his arms around me holding me close. The anger that I had in me melted away slowly in his arms. The emotions I felt for this boy, how much I fancied him and I didn't know until now. I never wanted to let go.
"Everything is changing so quickly" I whispered. His hand made it's way up to the back of my head gently stroking it.
"I know" He whispered back resting his head on mine.
***
Harry went back to the common room but I went to the astronomy tower again. I leaned on the balcony sighing admiring the view. Even though it was in daylight the view was still beautiful. Hogwarts was a beautiful place to be. I turned around noticing someone walking up behind me, Draco.
"Here to clear you mind again?" He said standing beside me to admire to view.
"I wish I could" I scoffed looking away and back at the view, "Is my mother at your manor?"
"What? Why would she be-"
"Don't be stupid Draco, where else would she be? Wondering around the streets when everyone knows she's a death eater? She's a woman of class, all the escapees from Azkaban doesn't have place grand enough for her"
"...I've always wondered why you aren't in Ravenclaw" He paused before he spoke.
"Because I'll do what is right, no matter the cost. Whatever it takes"
"That sounds a lot like Slytherin"
I laughed a little turning to face him, "The difference is I'll die for someone, you'll kill for someone"
He scoffed into laughter, "it's the right thing to do"
"It is the right thing to do"
"What's on your mind Draco" I asked furrowing my eyebrows. I realized he comes up to clear his mind too but I never asked about him.
"That's none of your business Evelyn" His expression stiffened quick and looked away back at the view. I didn't say anything else, just stared into the horizon with him.
***
I walked back inside the girl's dormitories to see Hermione sitting on her bead not doing anything. Her arms crossed and looking down at the ground concentrated.
"What's wrong Hermione?" I walked over sitting on my bed facing her. She looked up at me then at scarred hand before sighing.
"Harry's changed, I'm sure you can tell too" She said weakly. I nodded slowly having the same expression as her, "maybe you should talk to him"
"Me? If you and Ron can't get through him what chance do I have?"
"It's obvious he has a soft spot for you, I thought you caught on to stuff quickly" She scoffed smiling.
"Shove off Hermione" I let out a small laughter feeling my face heat up a little remembering our kiss back at headquarters. He still hasn't said anything about it which only makes me wonder why. Maybe it could've been the tension of the moment and that's why he hasn't said anything about it yet. He never meant it maybe. Worst case, maybe I was just someone he used to get over Cho. Cho was a really pretty girl, smart, she was sweet to others of course. It would make sense if Harry fancied her.
"I'll talk to him but there is no guarantee I'll get through to him. If I fail, maybe ask Cho" I paused for a second before relying. Hermione's eyes lit up and turned into a smile.
"Oh please Evelyn, Harry had to be over her by now"
"We'll see"

I am quite busy and write this during breaks at work. This is one of those goon-squad stories with a million characters, so "dizzying" might be a good way to describe the energy. Much of what builds up to the first arc happens in the first ten chapters, which are quite long. For that reason, if you have difficulty getting through the story, I understand, though things don't really start happening until Chapter 8-10.
