《Trust Me (Daryl Dixon x OC)》{4}

We all were leaning over the side of the building as Rick was looking for hopefully a way out of here. "That construction site, those trucks. They always keep keys on hand." Rick said handing the binoculars he was using to Morales.
"You'll never make it past the walkers."
'Jesus Christ how many names do these things have.' I said to myself.
"You got me out of that tank." Rick said to Glenn.
"Yeah but they were feeding. They were distracted." We all were looking at Glenn.
"Do you think we could distract them again?" I said looking at Glenn.
"Right. Listen to him. He's onto something." Merle said. I was getting really annoyed with him always putting in his two cents.
"A diversion. Like on "Hogan's Heroes"."
"God. Give it a rest." Jacqui said I could tell she was on the same level as me with Dixon's mouth.
"They're drawn by sound, Right?" Rick said, driving people to ignore Merles outbursts.
"Right like dogs." Glenn started to say when I finished his thought.
"They hear a sound. They come. That's how I get in and out of the city." Rick nodded
"Okay what else?"
"Aside from hearing you? They see you, smell you. And if they catch you, they eat you." Rick looked almost surprised.
"They can tell us by smell?"
"Can't you?" Glenn said, trying to not sound like a dick.
"They smell dead, we don't. It's pretty distinct." Andrea added. I stood there for a minute.
"Wait? What if we could smell dead?" They all looked at me crazy when I said it.
"Okay hear me out. They can smell us so if we smell like them they won't know where they are any different from them. They will walk right by us." Rick nodded and we all ran downstairs leaving Merle.
"If stupid ideas were in the Olympics this one would take the gold." Glenn said and Rick handed him some rubber gloves.
"He's right." Morales started Rick and I, grabbing rain coats and other stuff to cover us.
"Just stop, okay? Take some time to think this through." He continued.
"How much time? They've already got through one set of doors, that glass won't hold forever." Rick said.
"I have to agree. We have to do something and it's gotta be quick and this idea is good. Sure it's gross but it will work. It has to." I said, trying to help reassure the group.
Rick and Glenn pulled on the suites and ran out the door to the alley. There were some walkers out there that they already had killed so they dragged the bodies inside. Everyone was wearing gloves and protective gear. We decided that Rick and Glenn would go out there.
Rick grabbed a fire ax and I placed my hand on his shoulder. "You sure you want to do this. I can do it. I've done worse you know that." He nodded
"I'm good Raven. Thanks though." I nodded and took a step back from him. Everyone was staring at this body. This person. I mean he wasn't human anymore but he still used to be. I knew it was hard.

Rick tried to swing the ax but couldn't. He got down and searched his pockets.
"Wayne Dunlap. Georgia License. Born in 1979." Rick handed the license to Glenn. I knew what he was doing and I knew it would only make it harder for him to do what needed to be done but he continued.
"He had $28 in his pocket when he died. And a picture of a pretty girl. "With love From Rachel'' He used to be like us worrying about bills. Or the rent. Or the super bowl. If I ever find my family, I'm gonna tell them about Wayne." Rick got up, pulled his mask back on and grabbed the ax.
"One more thing, he was an organ donor." Glenn said.
'Well at least this is kinda what he wanted.' I said to myself.
With that Rick swung the ax down onto the body. A putrid smell filled the air as Rick hacked over the poor man's stomach and chest cavity. Everyone was grossed out hell Glenn almost puked. Rick took a few more swings then asked Morales to keep chopping. After a few more chops Morales stopped.
"Okay everyone got gloves? Don't get any on your skin or in your eyes'' Rick advises us and we started digging into this poor man rubbing whatever we pulled out on Rick and Glenn.
"Oh god this is so bad!" Glenn said Rick tried to distract him.
"Think of something else: puppies and kittens."
"Dead puppies and kittens" T-dog added and that was it Glenn puked and it was nasty.
I punched T-dog in the arm. "Man why did you have to say that?"
"That is just evil. What is wrong with you?" Andrea said, scolding T-dog.
"Next time let the cracker beat his ass." Jacqui said to Rick. I let out a little laugh.
"I'm sorry, yo." T-dog said, trying to apologize for his human thought.
"You suck!" Glenn moaned out still hunched over from puking up his guts. Oh bad pun sorry. We had draped some intestines over them, they looked and smelled like shit.
"Do we smell like them?" Rick asked.
"Oh yeah" Andrea said she took off her gloves and walked over to Glenn.
"Hey Glenn here just in case." She handed him her hand gun. He nodded and she stuck it in the front of his pants.
"If we make it back, Be ready." Rick said. I looked at him like I was going to kill him.
"Nope. No if's. You make it back or I will personally shoot you in the ass." I said to him with a fire in my eyes. He could tell by my look I was being serious so he nodded.
"What about Merle Dixon?" T-dog asked me, I up at Rick for his answer on what we should do with that loud mouth redneck. He reached into his pocket and grabbed out the cuff keys and tossed them to T-dog.
"Give me the ax." Rick said and Morales handed it to him.
"We need more guts." He said and swung the ax down on the dismantled corpse. They layered on some more guts and walked out into the alley.
"Hey Rick." I said as he walked out. "I mean it. You come back to me. I can't lose my best friend and my brother." He nodded.

"Don't worry I'll come back." I nodded in agreement and we watched as the two of them limped down the alley.
We all ran up the stairs to the roof to spot them. I think I was the fastest one up there. I grabbed my rifle from its place against the cement wall and looked down the scope.
"Hey what's happening man?" Dixon yelled.
"Hey T-dog. Try that C.B.'' Morales said as the rest of the group ran right to the wall.
"Hey come on. Talk to me y'all." Dixon's loud mouth kept going in the background.
"Base camp, this is T-dog. Anybody hear me?" T-dog said, trying the walkie again.
"Can anybody out there hear me?" Morales pulled out the binoculars and started searching for them.
"Hey I got them." I yelled.
"Morales look more to your right."
"Yeah I got them. Right there." He said pointing to them on the ground. I looked up at the storm clouds building up above us.
"Shit!" I cursed out loud.
"That asshole is out on the street with the handcuff keys?" Dixon yelled, actually sound slightly worried but more pissed off. T-dog held up the key kinda like 'hey I've got your key to freedom bitch' it made me giggle on the inside. I could see the noticeable rage build up on Merles face.
"Base camp this is T-dog can you hear me?" Then a voice came through.
"Receptions are bad on this end. Repeat. Repeat."
"Shane is that you?" I froze, did he just say Shane. No can't be.
"We're in some deep shit. We're trapped in the department store. There are geeks all over the place. Hundreds of 'em. We're surrounded." I could tell T-dog was trying to give them all the information he could that way they knew what was going on. There was nothing but static. We lost them. Shit. T-dog kept trying them but it was no use.
They all started talking but my focus was on the 2 men on the street. That was till it started to rain.
"It's just a cloud burst. We get 'em all the time. It'll pass real quick." Morales said to us.
"This rain is gonna wash that stink right off." I said quickly back to him. I looked down my scope and saw the walkers starting to notice that there was some living on the street. They could smell them. I watched a geek go from Rick and he got an ax to the skull. I cocked back my rifle, got it into position and started shooting walkers that got close to them as they ran to the construction site. I didn't know if they were going to make it but they did after climbing over a fence. There were a few crawling over the fence and I shot them down.
They made it into the truck but the fence broke as they drove off.
"They're leaving us." Andrea said I shook my head.
"What? What?" Merle yelled out. "Where are they going? Where are they going?" Morales said now freaking out.
"No no, come back." Andrea said. I re-strapped my rifle and slung it over my shoulder.
"No they ain't leaving us." I said as I grabbed my bag and peered over the edge of the building.
"They left! They left and they aren't coming back." Andrea yelled at me. I stopped and got in her face.
"Look there are roll up doors at the front of the store. They need to draw the rest of them away. If I know Rick. And I fucking do. He will figure a way to get all those walkers down there away long enough for us to get in the back of that truck." I said right then we heard Glenn over the radio.
"Those roll up doors facing the street. Meet us and be ready!" He said. I looked at Andrea.
"I told you they ain't leaving us."
"Come on let's go! Let's go!" Morales yelled as everyone grabbed their bags.
"Hey you can't leave me here!" Fucking Dixon I heard him yell.
"I'm not fooling around man! Morales! Hey man! Don't do this man!"
"Come on!"
"Hey that's my gun you can't leave me." That was the last thing I heard him yell as I ran down the stairs with Morales and T-dog in tow.
"Morales come on!" Jacqui yelled up the stairs.
"I'm coming!" He yelled back. We ran to the roll up doors. They held the chins getting ready to pull the door up.
"Shut up. You hear that?" I said it sounded like a car alarm.
"What is that?" Andrea said.
"Sounds like a car alarm." I said they nodded in agreement. T-dog came in.
"Wait where's Dixon?" I said looking at T-dog right then there was a bang on the gate and no time to talk. We pulled open the gate and there was Rick in the back of the truck.
"We gotta go!" T-dog yelled. We threw our bag to Rick and he tossed them into the truck and one by one we climbed in. Rick got into the driver seat and right then a bunch of walkers came out of the store. We drove off and Morales and I closed the back of the truck.
"I knew you'd come back." I said leaning over to Rick. He looked around and noticed the same thing I did before we got into the truck. We were missing a person.
"I dropped the damn key." T-dog finally said after a bit of silence. Andrea looked around noticing Glenn was gone too.
"Where's Glenn?" She asked. Rick chuckled.
"He was ahead of us. We'll meet up with him." We sat in the truck.
"Hey Sis. Where's your truck." Rick asked as we came up on the edge of the city.
"Um exit right here." He pulled off and I grabbed my bag and jumped out. I ran over to my truck and got in starting it.
'Thank god I have a full tank.' I mentally thanked myself. I pulled out and next to Rick.
"I'll follow you okay." I said and he nodded and we were off.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
