《Trust Me (Daryl Dixon x OC)》{26}

The next morning I woke up to Hershel checking my blood pressure.
"Did you sleep okay?" He asked me.
"As good as ex-military can." I said with a smile.
"Well let's have a look at those stitches." I nodded and sat up a bit while removing the bed sheet. He slowly unwrapped my waist and looked at them.
"They seem to be holding quite well. You should really stay in bed. Doctor's orders. I know you were on the roof last night. I came in to check on you and saw you." I sighed and looked up at the kind old man.
"I'm sorry I tried to stay quiet. I just had a bad dream and needed some fresh air." I told him and he nodded.
"I understand but, if you keep getting up on your feet you won't heal properly. They should only take a few days to heal but, that's only if you stay in bed." I nodded as an agreement.
"Got it doc, stay put or I'll never leave this bed." He smiled and nodded.
"I'll send Beth up with something for you to eat. But, that Dixon boy is outside wanting to talk to you." Hershel told me, grabbing his medical bag and such.
"Thank you but, can you tell him that I don't want to see him." He nodded as he walked to the door I called out to him.
"Hershel. Thank you for everything." I said and he smiled,
"You're welcome. Now get some rest. I'm going to be honest with you. I don't trust your group and I would like you gone as soon as you and that boy can move." I nodded.
"I understand. Thank you for helping us for now." He nodded and left the room. I could hear faint voices out in the hall before hearing loud boots leaving. I didn't care if Daryl was pissed off at me, he almost let me die. He acted like he cared about me and like I was his everything and then when it came down to the importance he wasn't there. About 20 minutes later Beth knocked on the door.
"Come in." I called softly and she came in.
"Hey, Raven. I brought you something to eat. Dad said you were doing a bit better." She said, handing me a plate of food.
"Yeah I'm feeling better now that I'm not dying." I joked, eating the soup she gave me.
"I told them you were stronger than that. Also that redneck looking guy. He wanted me to tell you that he was sorry that he messed up." Beth explained as she sat on the edge of the bed.
"Great just cause he can't talk to me he's sending others to do his dirty work." I said now, getting annoyed.
"I'm sorry if I made you mad." She said looking down at her hands.
"Oh no honey, it's not you at all. It's Daryl. The redneck. I let him in and I trusted him with my life and he almost let me die. Hell I did die twice. But I'm lucky your dad was there to bring me back. I'm just mad at him. I honestly don't think I could ever be mean to you Beth. You're too sweet." She smiled and nodded.
"Thanks Raven, also he sucks. You can do way better." She said as she left the room. I shook my head and smiled, setting my bowl on the nightstand.
I laid back down reading a book Maggie had given me. It was titled Jane Eyre, it was a really good read. The main male character, Mr. Rochester, reminded me a lot of Daryl. They were both rugged and like being alone. They both had secrets and mysteries to themselves that made you only want to get to know them more. I knew I couldn't stay mad at Daryl not forever but, I had every right to be pissed at him. I was pulled away from my book by the sound of Rick and Daryl arguing with each other. I got up and hobbled to the window sitting on the ledge and listening to them.

"You okay on your own?" Rick asked Daryl who was walking off the farm.
"I'm better on my own. Dunno worry, I'll be back before dark." Daryl told him, walking away again.
"Hey." Rick yelled, stopping Daryl in his tracks.
"We got a base. We can get this search properly organized now." Rick told him trying to keep Daryl from leaving this close to dark.
"You got a point or we just chattin'?" Daryl said walking towards Rick.
"My point is, it lets you off the hook. You don't owe us anything." Rick told him Daryl looked up at my window seeing me sit there.
"My other plans fell through." Daryl explained turning and walking away. I sighed as Hershel came out of the house. I got inside so he didn't see me on my feet so he wouldn't get mad at me again. I could still hear him and Rick talking but I couldn't make out what they were saying.
I was sitting on the bed when Rick came in. "Hey aren't you supposed to be laying down?" He said sitting on the chair next to my bed.
"Aren't you supposed to be sitting down with your son." He gave a light chuckle and took off his hat running his slender fingers through his brown locks.
"He's doing good. He's just resting." He paused and I moved closer to him placing my hand on his hand that was resting in front of him.
"I'm glad he's okay. I really am." I said he looked up at me. His piercing blue eyes were more of a dull color now.
"Raven, I...I wanted to say thank you. If you hadn't put him behind you he might not have made it. Hershel said between you and the deer it slowed the bullet enough for him to live." He said taking hold of my hand and giving it a light squeeze.
"Rick, I would do anything for that kid, for you, even for Lori. You guys are my family, maybe not by blood but, you're still the only true family I've ever had." I said tears peaking my eyes. Rick reached up and cupped my cheek using his thumb to wipe away a tear that had fallen. We just sat there for a bit, I noticed his eyes glance down at my lips then back to my eyes. He leaned in slowly, his cracked yet soft lips pressing themselves against mine. I was in shock. I didn't want to move but my heart was racing a million miles an hour. I gave in and kissed him back for only a second before Lori's face flashed through my mind. I opened my eyes and pulled away from Rick.
"Rick. No." I wanted to get up and walk away from him but, I knew I couldn't.
"Raven, I'm sorry." He said getting up and walking out of the room. I sat there, my fingertips brushed my lips where Rick's had just been not 5 seconds ago.
I got up and hobbled over to the dresser where a bowl of water and a rag was. I looked in the mirror, my hair was a mess, I had blood and dirt all over my face.
"You look like shit, bird." I said to myself before taking the rag and getting it wet with the water. I started to clean up my own wound that had started to bleed a little bit. I put the rag down and splashed my face with the water. I grabbed the rag and washed all the dirt and blood off my face and my chest. I watched as the clear water turned a muddy red color.

Once I was down I grabbed the brush that was there and brushed out my ratted hair. I took a deep breath and looked back in the mirror finally recognizing the women looking back at me. As I stared at myself I noticed my dog tags resting between my breasts. I always had 3 of them. 2 were obviously mine but the third one was Johnny's. I looked down at the tag lightly tracing the letters of Johnny's name punched into the metal. Then my mind flashed back to the day I lost him. He and I always had something special we knew was there but we never acted on it.
It had been a few weeks since we had been taken. Johnny got the shit beat out of him and me. I was raped multiple times not by the same person either.
"Raven." Johnny said from across from me.
"Johnny just hold on okay. We can make it through this." I said looking up at him and trying to keep his hopes up.
"Raven, there's something I need to tell you." He said to me spitting out more blood.
"No, Wood. You are not going to do this. We will make it out of here and you can tell me when we do." I told him in a stern voice.
"Little Bird, I need you to just listen. I need you to know something before they kill me or you or both of us okay." He looked at my tears falling from his face but his voice was unshaken.
"No, Johnny please. Don't give up. Don't say that." I begged him. Then we heard the big metal door open and close as the usual man came in.
"Well, it seems like your troops are getting closer to finding you. They took out more than 60 of my men and now I need to send them a message." He walked over to Johnny and placed a gun to his temple.
"Any last words?" He said to Johnny.
"No! Leave him, kill me please." I yelled pulling at my cuffs.
"Little Bird, I love you." Johnny said before the man shot him in the head and he died instantly. I screamed in pain. Johnny just confessed that he loved me and they killed him. I let my body go limp as I cried. The man left for a moment and I looked up at Johnny who was limp blood falling down his face.
"I love you, Johnny. I always did." I said before they came back and let down his body. They cut his head off right in front of me, his blood spewing onto my lower half. I saw his dog tags laying on the floor when they left so I grabbed them with my toes and wrapped them around my ankle so I didn't lose them.
After about 3 more days I woke up to the sounds of men yelling and gun fire. The metal door opened and my Sargent came in.
"Raven." He said standing in front of me.
"Sargent Ford. Great to see you again sir." I said with a smile. He cut me down and wrapped a blanket around me.
"Let's get you home, Walker." He said which made me immediately think of Johnny. I grabbed Johnny's dog tags and put them around my neck with mine. Sargent Ford picked me up and carried me out of the room. I was saved but the man that truly loved me was dead.
I was pulled back to reality by Maggie coming into the room.
"I see you're up and moving." She said setting some clothes on the bed. I quickly let my dog tags fall and wiped the tears from my face.
"Barely moving, my dear." I said hobbling over to the bed. She laughed
"Oh I can see that. Glenn gave me these and said they were yours." She pointed over to the clothes on the bed.
"Thank you. Tell him I said thank you too." I said lifting up the short sleeved turtle neck shirt.
"Dad said your stitches still need time to heal so once we remove them you can shower. And move around more." She told me, taking the bowl of nasty water.
"Thank you, Maggie. Really you've been a great help." I told her and she nodded and walked out leaving me there by myself. I took a deep breath and decided that despite what the doctor says I'm checking on my nephew.
I walked downstairs noticing that no one was in the living room. I saw Lori talking to Glen so I went and found Carl. He was just waking up when I came in.
"Hey there buddy." I said taking a seat in the chair next to his bed.
"Aunt Raven. Are you okay?" He said, noticing my slight limp.
"Oh don't worry about me. How are you doing kiddo?" I said moving some hair from his face.
"I'm fine now. Mom made me take one of those painkillers." He said pointing to the pills on the table.
"Well I'm glad you're okay bud. Don't know what I would do without my little Lance Corporal." I said ruffling his hair a bit. He laughed a little.
"Now get some rest." I said and then walked outside to the porch. No one seemed to notice me so I walked down to the camp with everyone.
"Hey Glenn." I said as he was walking away from Lori.
"Hey Raven, Are you feeling okay?" He said to me in his usual happy voice.
"Yeah. I'm feeling great. Just in a little pain, nothing I'm not used to though." He nodded.
"I'm glad you're okay." He said before walking away to the house. I saw Daryl come back in his hands with a bottle with a Cherokee Rose in it. He saw me and then walked into the RV. I looked around the camp and realized that Carol wasn't there. Which meant she was in the RV.
I felt my heartbreak and so I walked back inside the house. I went upstairs and laid down, right then Hershel came in.
"Okay let me check on those stitches." I nodded and sat up. He looked at them and rewrapped my stitches.
"How are you feeling?" He asked me, checking my pressures.
"In a little pain but, it's bearable." I told him and he nodded.
"Here take this." He said taking out a painkiller and handing it to me.
"No save it for someone who needs it." I politely refused.
"Well at least take the antibiotics." he said, handing me 2 pills. I nodded and swallowed them and with that he left.
"I'll have one of the girls bring you two more when they bring you dinner." He said before leaving.
"Thank you." I told him and with that he left. I read my book till I fell asleep. Tomorrow was going to be another long and boring day.

Unwitting Champion
"In stories this is always easy. There's magic and powers, and quick steps to claiming that power for one's self. This doesn't feel true for me. I'm supposed to be a Champion, whatever that means, and yet I don't feel important. I don't have all the bells and whistles, which honestly feels familiar even in a new world. But what was I expecting? I haven't had the worst life - there are people with worse problems than mine - I've known what it is to struggle, to be pulled down instead of being helped up.This is nothing new."When in great peril, the Kingdom of Althor has no choice but to send a call into the void, beseeching the Fates to bring them a man who would save them from the coming darkness. Unfortunately the path the Fates chart is often unknowable to men and the Champion who appears is not what the kingdom expected.Unwitting Champion is a story of a guy displaced, dealing first and foremost with trying to survive in a world where he is no longer a person but a tool, and - at least from the reaction of those around him - a shoddy one at that. His major goal is to survive long enough that either he can run or find a way home, because as exciting as the possibility of learning magic might be, he would rather have a boring life than a short life.
