Synopsis of Railgun Online:
In the year of 2022, Virtual Reality video games have progressed to a state that is nearly indistinguishable from reality. Eager to try out the first Virtual Reality Mass Multiplayer Online game, Level 5 esper Mikoto Misaka, also known as the Railgun due to her amazing powers over electricity, buys one of the first 10,000 copies of Sword Art Online and logs on under the username: Railgun. However, this proves to be a deadly mistake. She, along with the other 9999 players who are 'lucky' enough to get the copies, are instantly trapped in the game by the creator of the VR headset known as the Nerve Gear. Those who have their health reach zero in the game are instantly killed by the Nerve Gear, and the only way to escape the game is to reach the 100th floor of Aincrad, the massive floating castle in which SAO is played. However.. Mikoto has it worse then the other gamers.. as Kayaba deletes Mikoto's memories of the real world in hopes that she will not use her power to free herself or the other players.
1 month pasts and the current strongest surviving players gather together to fight the First Floor Boss, Illfang the Kobald Lord. In the process, the leader of the strike team is killed, and Mikoto rallies the other players to fight, inspiring another player.. a Beta Tester named Kirito and his party member Asuna. They manage to defeat Illfang.. however, in the process, Mikoto's powers react.. and cause the game to glitch, making her freeze up. After that, she and Kirito are both alienated.. earning her the title Glitch Blade, while Kirito is referred to as a Beater.. one who is accused of cheating and being a Beta Tester who didn't help out new players.
A month later.. Mikoto also meets a young girl named Kurami, which she takes a liking to and takes care of.. however, Kurami dies protecting Mikoto from a rogue member of the guild Aincrad Liberation Front, also known as the Army. From that day forth, Mikoto is ridden with guilt, and also despises and distrusts guilds.. triggering her to become a Solo Player by choice.
1 year passes, and Mikoto forgets about Kirito, only to be saved by him as she is on her way back to town from a solo clearing session. By now, both have also earned different titles among the more respectable and less harsh players of Aincrad, Mikoto being called the Blurred Blade for her incredible speed, while Kirito is known as the Black Swordsman, a powerful lone player who is also know for his tendency to wear black. Mikoto, being naturally distrusting of everyone in now thanks to a combination of her amnesia and others treating her like dirt, thinks Kirito is trying to use her. Kirito, seeing the pain that Mikoto is keeping buried, comes up with a bold quest to find materials for a new sword that is usually only found as a drop by mob bosses. During the quest, Mikoto constantly questions Kirito, nearly killing herself in a battle against a powerful dragon class monster.. but after seeing Kirito's honest caring nature, she begins to regard him with deep respect.. even revealing her real name to him. Later on, they date, only to break up.. however they both have such a deep friendship with each other by this time, that the breakup doesn't matter, and they become a brother and sister form of friends.
During this time, Kirito and Mikoto become regarded as the best Solo Player tag team in Aincrad. And it is also during this time, Mikoto meets Asuna once more.. and due to Mikoto's brash and bold tendency to jump into different situations alone, and Asuna's repeated fervent attempts to force Mikoto to join her guild, the Knights of the Blood Oath, they become bitter towards each other. This enmity reaches it's breaking point when Mikoto disrespects Asuna's authority once more, and she beats Mikoto in a public duel to make a point. However, as Mikoto has lunch with Kirito, she admits her guilt over the matter, and Asuna comes and reveals that she feels guilt as well. After a run in with Red-Eyed XaXa, a member of the Murder Guild: Laughing Coffin, and Mikoto single handedly defeats the 66th floor boss Ancient Automaton Koloktos, the twosome become close friends, and Asuna becomes rather protective and motherly over Mikoto due to her discovery of Mikoto's amnesia.

Shortly after, Red-Eyed XaXa escapes prison with other members of Laughing Coffin, and a manhunt ensues, resulting in a bitter anger and hatred between XaXa and Mikoto. After an ambush by Laughing Coffin resulting in Mikoto and Kirito each killing a fair number of the Murder Guild, Mikoto admits to XaXa that she purposely forgot his name, angering the murderer, and prompting him to tell her that he would find her one day and make her regret forgetting his name.
Mikoto later heads on an adventure with Lisbeth, a blacksmith and a friend of Asuna's. Together, they find the necessary materials to combine the three swords, the Master Sword, the Statick Smite, and Anaklusmos into the legendary class weapon Lightning Master, which becomes the rarest blade in the game..
Later, after Kirito and Asuna start dating as the result of a rather near fatal battle with the 74th floor boss The Gleam Eyes, because the leader of Asuna's guild, Heathcliff won't allow her to go on leave, Mikoto challenges Heathcliff to a duel to allow Asuna to go, however, Heathcliff somehow manages to win despite his disadvantage. As a result, Mikoto is forced to join the Knights of the Blood Oath, much to her inner hurt and dismay.
As part of her first initiation into the guild, she is forced to go on a training mission with two KoB members.. one of which is Kuradeel, whom had a dispute with Kirito, and attempted to kill Mikoto at one point on orders from a group of Glitch Blade haters named Anti-System. Kuradeel poisons Mikoto and the other player, first killing the other player, then dragging Mikoto off to kill her in a slow drawn out, painful death. However, Asuna and Kirito arrive just in time and Kuradeel is killed in the struggle. After that, Asuna secretly becomes even more protective of Mikoto.
After Asuna and Kirito become married in game, Mikoto is assigned as their bodyguard during their time off from the KoB, managing to find them a secluded quiet cabin on the floor 22. Mikoto also lives close by, allowing her to frequently visit, and for her friends to frequently visit her. During this time.. The three friends meet a small girl named Yui, who is later revealed to be an ultra intelligent AI, capable of feeling emotions.. she adopts Asuna and Kirito as her mother and father.. and Mikoto as her big sister, later revealing to Mikoto that she was actually Kurami, who had come to Mikoto because she wanted to comfort her most of all due to her amnesia. The Cardinal System that manages SAO attempts to delete Yui, however, Mikoto's gradual rediscovery of her powers along with Kirito's technical savvy save Yui and store her core programming away in Kirito's Never Gear account.
Shortly after, the three friends are called back to the battlefield to assist in the fight against the 75th floor boss, The Skull Reaper. After a vicious battle, Mikoto realizes that Heathcliff is actually Kayaba himself, and attacks him, prompting Kayaba to reveal himself as the 100th floor boss, who would betray the players at floor 95. Out of respect for Mikoto cleverly discovering his identity, he offers to duel her, in which if Mikoto won, the game would be beaten, and everyone would be freed.
Mikoto obliges, and loses after a few strikes.. however, she pulls her esper power out, and hacks herself back before the Nerve Gear can kill her, pulling the Master Sword from the remains of her shattered Lightning Master and slaying Heathcliff.. beating the game.
Fairy Dance Arch:
several months later, after SAO is beaten, and everyone is freed, Asuna is still stuck in her Nerve Gear. After receiving a tip from an old SAO friend, Agil, Mikoto and Kirito buy a game called ALfheim Online and return to the virtual world to search for her. During this time, they meet Leafa and Mista, who are actually Suguha Kirigaya and Kuroko Shirai, Kirito's cousin/sister and Mikoto's best friend and roommate.

In the real world though, Asuna's captor, Sugou sends another Level 5, Shizuri Mugino, known as the Meltdowner, and a professional assassin known as Koro to kill Kirito and Mikoto. In the process, Kirito gains a powerful weapon called the Dark Fiber Sword, which not only has a plasma blade, but increases Kirito's strength and agility to phenomenal levels. Together, the two of them defeat Mugino, and also manage to defeat Koro twice.
During these events, a strange alien creature capable of converting himself into the digital and virtual worlds known as a Viros, attacks Kirito to test his capabilities. The Viros, named Seyat, then dissapears
After many hard fought battles, the two friends finally find Asuna at the top of the World Tree in ALO, and face Sugou as his ALO avatar Oberon. With help from Kayaba's virtual self and Seyat, Kirito uses Mikoto's sword to defeat Sugou and save Mikoto and Asuna..
However, in the real world, Sugou returns in a powerful mech suit to kill Kirito, only to be stopped and promptly defeated by an enraged Mikoto. Asuna and Kirito are then reunited in the real world.
Phantom Bullet Arch.
About a month after that incident.. a new game called Gun Gale Online emerges, where players fight in a post apocalyptic steam punk scifi world with guns and other Call Of Duty type weapons.
A player, referring to himself as Death Gun, manages to kill a player IRL, sparking the government to hire Kirito and Mikoto to dive into GGO to investigate.
Along the way, they meet a sniper named Sinon who is in GGO to deal with her fear of guns. After entering a tournament called the Bullet of Bullets, Sinon begins to kindle a rather heated rivalry with Kirito, and also begins to feel a familiarity towards Mikoto.
After fighting Accelerator, the most powerful Esper in Academy City who just so happens to be playing GGO as well, the three agree to work together to find and stop Death Gun during the BoB tournament. However, after Death Gun almost kills Sinon and a new Viros whose intent is to kill Mikoto due to another Viros named Nox merging to Mikoto during her last battle with Meltdowner. The Viros, Congono disappears after Death Gun almost chases down Mikoto and Sinon.
After some time, The three figure out that Death Gun is actually using a partner to kill somebody IRL while he shoots them in the VR to give the appearance of murdering somebody from a game. And not only that, they also find out Mikoto and Sinon are long lost cousins. After a heated sword battle with Death Gun, revealing himself to be actually Red-Eyed XaXa, Mikoto cuts Death Gun apart. However, at that instant, Congono attacks, however, before Congono can do away with Mikoto, Seyat and Accelerator interfere.
After Seyat retires from the game, Sinon usese a grenade to blow up the rest of the players, so everyone is counted as winners. But upon returning to the Real World, she discovers her best friend Kyouji Shinkawa is the brother of Shouji Shinkawa, AKA, Red-Eyed XaXa, and is the second Death Gun. However, before Shinkawa can rape Shino, Mikoto breaks in and attempts to save her cousin. But Shinkawa uses his esper ability to negate Mikoto's power and the three fight, resulting in Shinkawa nearly raping both Mikoto and Shino before Accelerator jumps in and intervenes..
After a heartfelt hug and a week of healing, Shino moves into Mikoto's new high school dorm, and the two grow close.
Alicization Arch:
Mikoto, Shino, Kirito, and Asuna later meet together in a café to discuss the new VR technology that Mikoto and Kirito are testing for a company called Rath. After discussing the concept of Soul Translation, a type of VR that transfers the actual soul of a human being into a VR world, they leave together.
Little do Mikoto and Kirito know, but the two of them were put into a place known as the Underworld during these tests, where they relived their entire childhood in a small village among other living cloned souls known as Fluctlights. Among their childhood friends, are Alice and Eugeo. In this world, Kirito and Mikoto are brother and sister, and Kirito and Eugeo's jobs from the time they turn 10, is to cut down a giant tree called the Gigas Cedar so that their fellow villagers can move to lands beyond the tree to expand farm land. Mikoto is a priestess due to her esper powers being mistaken as gifts from the divine goddess Stacia. When Mikoto and Kirito turn 11 in the Underworld, after a quest gone wrong, one of the law keepers, a Integrity Knight, arrests Alice for breaking the law and touching the soil of the Dark Territory where monsters dwell. Mikoto furiously attempts to save Alice, prompting the Integrity Knight to turn his blade on her. Kirito desperately attacks the Integrity Knight in an attempt to both protect her sister and save Alice. It is at this point, that Mikoto and Kirito are pulled out of the Underworld, and Eugeo's memories of his two friends are deleted. Kirito and Mikoto's memories are also wiped of the Underworld.
After the café meeting, Mikoto, Kirito, Sinon, and Asuna, are attacked by Laughing Coffin's leader PoH and XaXa who escaped from prison, all wielding Dark Fiber weapons like Kirito. After a huge fight, Mikoto, Kirito, and Sinon end up drugged and clinging to life, before they are kidnapped by fake paramedics and brought to a secret base in the middle of the pacific ocean to be plugged back into the Underworld so they can undergo brain reparation.
The Underworld's time runs 1000 times faster then real world time, so as a result.. Mikoto, Kirito, and Sinon's time in the Underworld is far longer then it actually is. They meet Eugeo after wandering around a bit in the Underworld, and the village takes them under their wing. After a few misadventures. The 4 head out to look for Alice, accompanied by Yuniko Kozuki, AKA Scarlet Rain, a VR gamer from 20 years in the future who somehow got stuck in the Underworld as well. She is also fused to a polite Viros named Tempo and becomes Mikoto's teacher in the ways of working with a Viros fused to the human body.
Mikoto and Kirito along with Eugeo eventually become students in the Sword Academy in Zattaria where they train hard as Valets under their respective mentor upperclassmen.
Mikoto is mentored by Ashley Rowena, who takes Mikoto on a trip to learn a Sword Skill called Ocean Storm.
During this time, Mikoto is reunited with a close friend named Yuuki, who was a player in ALO who was supposed to die due to AIDs. Together with Yuuki and Ashley, they fight the growing Laughing Coffin and beat them back, including XaXa, now known as Sterben, who was granted strange powers by a mysterious Viros Leader named Thevos.
Sterben and the Laughing Coffin members are promptly defeated, and after a few months, Mikoto, Kirito, and Eugeo become Nobles and gain Valets of their own. Meanwhile Asuna, with the help of friends, manages to find Mikoto, Kirito, and Sinon asleep within the Ocean Turtle base IRL.. and that is where our story has been left off.
"What do you mean.. YOU DIDN'T KNOW!?" Asuna screamed, grabbing Kikuoka's shoulders and shaking them furiously.
"I seriously didn't!!" said Kikuoka. "There's no way to definitely monitor all the particulars of what goes on in the Underworld!! You have to remember, everything is practically happening 1000 times faster within that world, which means we can only record certain events of our choosing in real time.. it's a really tricky kind of testing that requires a lot of expertise that I don't really have. We rely mainly on our professionals for that, and they don't know who Laughing Coffin is!!"
The sea base known as the Ocean Turtle had definitely seen better days..
Currently, Asuna was seated next to the motionless unconscious form of her boyfriend Kazuto Kirigaya.. while Touma Kamijou was holding the hand of Mikoto Misaka... Accelerator was gritting his teeth in frustration as he watched Shino.
"They're fine the last we checked." said Kikuoka. "Aki has been very thorough."
"Aki!?" said Asuna.
Sure enough, the nurse who had watched over Kirito and Mikoto during SAO, and Mikoto's old power developer when she had been small walked in, smiling comfortingly. "Hello Asuna-san, I'm sorry about this, but I'm doing everything I can. Misaka's Fluctlight has the ability to it's Esper powers within that world, so we shouldn't have to deal with any problems stabilizing her IRL body."
"So... have you spotted anybody from this Laughing Coffin group?" Touma stammered.
"I'm afraid it would take an entire two years for me to watch the entire recordings of their lives." said Aki. "But last I checked, they are currently doing well, and Kirito and Misaka both have little apprentices in the art of sword wielding while Sinon is doing fine in the Archery Corps. As far as I can see, they are doing fine, and they miss their friends of the real world."
Asuna sighed with relief, but still gave Kikuoka a rather furious glare. "You could have told us!!"
"I apologize for that." said Kikuoka. "In any case.. they're safe here... and we're safe here.."
"I wouldn't say that.." Birdway walked into the room, followed by the silent gliding Seyat.
"Why?" said Kikuoka in some confusion. "What's the matter?"
"I just got off the cellphone with Agnese whose standing guard outside." said Birdway. "Vento couldn't stay on our side forever, apparently she's reached the end of her tether and patience.. and Fiamma is coming. Well done Seijirou-san, you brought the entire wrath of the reunited Gods Right Seat upon you. Apparently, Fiamma feels this kind of military use of VR is precisely what will cause the disbalance between the magic and science sides..."
"I don't know who this Fiamma is.." said Kikuoka. "But there is no way he can just break into this-"
"BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!" There was an explosion, and a hole was blown straight into the room. A thin man with reddish hair and a red suit walked in.. coming out of his shoulder was the shifting mirage-like image of a giant clawed bird's talon.
"Well, that was easy." said Fiamma. "Sorry.. but I'm here to break all your toys.

Phantom Storm
"Have you heard, the entire Bonanno crew was brutally murdered!" Exclaimed a youth in his early teens. "What? you're lying, again!" Another similarly aged child responded with crisp denial in his tone. After all, the crew was infamous for their ruthlessness. An eery silence passed between them. Soon enough, the teens' curiosity trumped his ego, and he found himself inquiring in a meek voice. "So...Who did it?" "I heard my father talking about it while he was drunk. Guess what he said?..." The child responded, he was a natural-born storyteller. Listening intently, the other teen urged him on. "It was done by a single person. When the police arrived, the bodies were charred black, likely the work of an electro mage. Most had an arrow or two lodged in their body, and a few were even chopped into neat little slices by a sharp blade." He paused, inhaling sharply. "All the victims had shocked expressions on their faces. As if the enemy was invisible or something. That's why they call that person the Phantom Storm!" concluded the adolescent with an excited glint in his eyes. 2 CHAPTERS PER WEEK (Canada time) [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] -------------------------------------------- Follow Itsuki as he is reincarnated in an unfamiliar world, left to discover where he belongs in such a place. Our character will improve, learn, become better than yesterday, and strive for more power. All the while working his way up the food chain in this brutal and unforgiving new world. *Disclaimer:* - The protagonist starts weak and a little naive, but I guarantee he will become quite capable over time. There will be no sudden power gains. The protagonist will have to work hard for what he gets. - This story is not about a loner, he'll have a few companions, and they will not be useless. - Some romance will be explored but not take away from the story. The main character will not be dense. Absolutely no harem will happen, but there might be a few love interests, no more than 3. - I will try my best to not follow cliches and stay as original as possible. - This story is my first ever, whether online or in real life. Thus, I might have grammatical errors here and there. The story might have a few plot holes and other such minute mistakes, as well. But I guarantee to try my best.
