《The Roommate: A Mathew Barzal Fanfiction》22. Mathew

In the last forty-five minutes Jade didn't stop from crying, smiling, thanking me, kissing me, interrogating me and complaining about our date tonight. She's totally not fund about these whole thing that I did, which was asking the hotel to close their rooftop bar for me and Jade's date night.
I am not gonna lie it's pretty expensive but I got a discount anyway since it is a newly opened bar and I promised to make a free promotion for it, so it's fine. Besides, I love Jade and I don't care if I spend a hundred bucks just for her.
I love her...
Jezz! I've never said I love you to a girl in such a long time. It's quite strange and I am always not the one who says it first, but Jade has done something in my heart and soul that I couldn't even describe. Thinking about not having her in my life is a horror.
Life is totally crazy. Sometimes, there are moments in your life where you didn't expect that will happen and then suddenly your life has changed.
My life became even more better when I met Jade and I will never ever get tired of showing her how much she means to me.
"Barzy?" She voiced out.
She is now resting her head on my lap after we finished our dinner few moments ago. We're both admiring the New York skyline as I play on her hair waiting for the clock to finally strike twelve.
"Hmmm?"
"How many girls have you done this thing with?"
I snickered. "Well, I've never went this extravagant before."
I honestly answered. I haven't done this before. I mean, I always brought dates on some fancy pants restaurant and I must say that I thought about that but Jade hates fancy stuff and hates attention.
If I let her go out with me on a random restaurant in the city there will surely be cameras of fans everywhere, I don't want her to freak out or anything. Not that I always get that kind of recognition on the streets like a superstar being followed by paparazzi constantly but there's always people who recognizes me and ask for a picture.
There's also some times where if I'm spotted with a girl, people who knows me pulls out there phones to take a photo and what not. I may act like I haven't noticed it but I do. Especially during those times where I dated models.
I don't want to let that happen when I am with Jade, she's still not used to the kind of life I have so I won't suddenly forced her to adjust right away. It takes more time, she needs more time to do that.
She chuckled.
"Then don't. You know I prefer staying in, watch movies and chill." She said showing her perfect smile at me. "You know, like what the millennials called Netflix and chill."

"You know you're a millennial too right?" I said and she shrugs sighing as she got off from my lap and stared at the gorgeous night view of the city in front of us.
"Check the time!" She said enthusiastically glancing at my wristwatch, timing, it's about two minutes before the clock strikes twelve.
I pulled her towards me so she'll be able to rest her back on my chest as we witness the fireworks that is about to blast on every building in front of us.
"Brace yourself." I said in a sing along.
Few seconds more and the sky is field with different colors hearing the inaudible shouts of people screaming happy new year on top of their lungs.
"Oh my god. This is so wonderful!" Jade mouthed. "Let's stay here forever."
I hugged Jade tighter than I already did.
"Happy New Year, baby." I said.
I've never been so happy in my life...
*
After few weeks of break, we're back on the ice. I couldn't been more pump after checking our stats and it is doing pretty well. Few more game wins and we'll head into the Stanley Cup playoffs. Hopefully in five months, my team will see ourselves skating down the rink playing for the Stanley Cup championships.
Fingers-crossed.
"Heard anything about All-Star Game yet?" Beau asked after we head back to the locker room to change after taking a shower. We're still on the break but we just can't control ourselves from hitting the rink especially during the game season.
"I haven't yet." I answered. If I get an invite again this year, I am going to be pump for sure. Even if I feel pressure about participating at the Fastest Skater category again on the Skills Game. Connor McDavid was definitely right about the nerves you will feel when you are the defending champion yourself.
But aside from that, if I recieve an invitation. I thought about inviting Jade over to spend that whole week with me. My family is gonna be there too for sure and I wanted them to meet her, especially my mom. When I told her about Jade during Christmas, she's pretty excited to know her.
"I heard rumors about you going to the All-Stars though." I said.
"Oh my gosh! That would be a dream come true." Beau said slapping my back.
Dream come true indeed. Being surrounded with the best players in the league is overwhelming let alone being considered as one of them. Before, I thought going on an All-Star weekend will took me long enough years before I am able to experience it.
However, life is pretty crazy sometimes and I happen to experience it myself during my early years on the NHL. I couldn't feel even more proud and happier than that, most especially if the most important person in my life will spend that another proud moment with me.

Jade.
After celebrating the New year with her on the rooftop made me realize that I totally can't live without her anymore.
The longer I knew Jade, I began to realize that she is not that kind of a confident woman. She hates attention, she needs to be reassured all the time and she is not that confident about herself.
Which I find as bullshit because she is smart, independent and very beautiful woman. I love her, and as her boyfriend, I want her to know that and help her appreciate how wonderful she is. Even if it means me going extravagant during date nights all the time, but she hates that. Therefore I need to think of another kind of date that is not that is according to her preferences, I love it! She's very appreciative person and very simple.
"Are you and Jade coming tonight?" Beau asked after we got dressed up and head to the media room to watch game replays on. We’ve been studying the games of Tampa Bay eversince we all went back from the few weeks break. We’re matched up against them for our first game of the year in two days.
"She's not home yet." I honestly said. She went to Vermont for a quick client meeting with one of their lawyers there and she won't be home until tonight.
God! I miss my woman, can't wait to to go home and cuddle her. I know it's weird considering she was just away for only two days but that woman seems to put some spell on me that being away with her for like a second feels like years!
Some of us in the team is going to Seidenberg's house tonight to come celebrate Dennis and Rebecca's wedding anniversary.
"Hit me up when she says yes. I'll invite Stacy."
"Invite her. I already told Jade about it, maybe she'll make it later." I replied grinning secretly praying that my girlfriend will make it since I feel kinda off celebrating it without her with me. I've been always invited with their anniversary party and I always feel so left out because I am surrounded with happy couples, so having Jade would be a great change because obviously I am now taken as fuck!
"So you two are getting serious?" I asked Beau to change the subject.
"Nah. Just fooling around." He replied without looking at me.
"Then why are you inviting her if you're just fooling around?"
"I don't know! For wild sexual company?" He answered which sends me to laugh. This guy is ridiculous, I don't even know why I am friends with him sometimes.
"You're a manwhore!" I accused.
"Says the man who used to be a manwhore too!" He barked back.
I am not gonna lie. I used to sleep around, but not until I met Jade which sends me into changing that. To be honest, having a girlfriend is awesome and I don't know why it took me long enough to realize that having someone around who is constantly there for you every before and after a game rocks!
Few hours passed of a little meeting with the team, I went straight home expecting that Jade is already there.
But she's not home yet.
I shoot her a text a while ago, but knowing Jade. She's not fund of replying with your texts when she's traveling for work.
"Hey Mat! Why aren't you not dressed yet?" Tori greeted when I went downstairs.
"Jade is not home yet. I'll wait for her."
"No! Don't bother. I called her earlier and she told me she'll meet us there." Tori said.
"Why is she responding to you and not on me?" I asked in complete frustration.
"Because you guys are opposite. She prefer calls and you prefer texts." Tori answered. "When you date a very busy woman, you might consider calling rather than texting."
"But she always replies on my text. We text all the time--"
"Not when she's on a business trip!"
"But my calls always go straight to the voice mail!"
"Oh!" Tori said wearing an expression like it's as if she just realized something. "I forgot. I am pregnant. I am always on the priority lane everytime I call."
Makes sense!
Jade loves Tori so much and she always comes first more than anything else. Hence, why she moved in with the Lee's in the first place and became my roommate.
And on the second thought, Jade's named popped on the screen on the phone I am holding.
"Speaking of Jade..." I said waving my phone at Tori. "I gotta go take this, I'll just follow you guys."
I said and went straight to my room as I tap the phone to answer.
"Hey gorgeous!"
"Hey uhm... How much will you hate me if I bail on you tonight?"
"And why is that? Are you still in Vermont?"
"No. I already arrived like an hour ago." She replied right away. "Well, Collins got an emergency and he called me to--"
"What happened? Where are you? I'll go with you."
"No no. It's okay, Collin's just wanting to have a girl talk right now. But I will call you in case I need some help, alright?"
"Should I be worried?" I asked because she just mentioned emergency.
"Oh no. Collin's is just heartbroken don't worry. I see you later?"
I sighed. "Alright, well be careful. I love you!"
"I love you too."
I took a deep sigh again. Guess I spoke too soon! I still ended being partnerless in the party later.

Crossroads
On the continent of Khaan, a peculiar boy escapes from his hidden village to find a land to call home. Suppressed ambitions are unveiled as a head-strong princess defies the emperor. New kingdoms expand as the old decay. This is a story of those who lived in the times of change. Dear Reader, Thank you for stopping by! This is my first attempt at writing something of more substantial length and would be incredibly grateful to receive feedback and advice. The plan is to post at least a chapter a week and more if I find time. Also, in order to not disappoint any expectations; the story plays in a fictional world reminiscent of the real world 17th to 19th century with some supernatural elements, but no obvious magic or game-like system.

The Systems of the Multiverse - A Guide for the Multiversal Traveler
The Systems of the Multiverse have their issues. I, an observer from outside the multiverse have made it into my mission to tell you, the multiversal traveler about those issues and dangers. This is a relatively low effort NaNoWriMo and Writhathon project. I want to test myself if I can manage 55k words in a month, likely updating every single day until the end. This story is told in the form of an in universe book. Well, I say story... While this definetly won't be great, I still hope it will be enjoyable. I do my best to avoid grammar mistakes and spelling issues, but won't promise anything. Corrections are welcome, this is also an excercise to improve my writing from a technical standpoint. Not from a worldbuilding and character standpoint however, for that you need time. Oh, the keyboards (and computers) that the observer destroys are not real and only exists in story to have an excuse to easily end this story at the end of NaNoWriMo. I also personally like reading LitRPG stories, so this isn't meant to hate them. It might come over that way, but many of those issues are simply fun to think about: what would really happen if the world is so, seen through a lease of negativity :-) [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
