《Let You Go - Riley Green》- 12 -

Lottie jolts awake, her heart racing and her chest heaving. She climbs out of her bunk and starts pacing.
She heads up to the driver. "Can I ask a huge favor please?" She whispers. She's keeping it quiet because it's three in the morning and everyone else is asleep. "Please?"
Their driver, Luther, turns his ear toward her. "What's up, Lottie?"
"Can you get off at the next exit you see a gas station? I need smokes."
"Sure thing. We gotta fill up anyways."
"Thank you." She pats his shoulder then plops on the couch behind him, her heart still racing from the horrible dream she just had.
Luther turns into a gas station and fills up. Lottie hops off the RV and heads inside.
She sighs as she walks around the store, picking up random things that sound good. She drops her snacks off. "I need two packs of, uh," She glances out at the RV, hoping Riley isn't looking at her. "Marlboro Ultra Lights, please."
Lottie gathers her things, pockets her smokes then turns to the door. Her heart drops into her shoes when she sees her ex boyfriend standing at a gas pump.
"What're- What're you doin' here?" She asks, clutching her purchase to her chest.
"Gettin' gas." Hoss shrugs. "What're you doin' here?"
"Smokes." She responds. "It's three in the mornin'."
"Yeah, I'm headed to Baton Rouge for a reunion." The gas pump clicks. He hands the handle back up. "What about you?" He looks her over as he snags his receipt.
"On our way to Baton Rouge."
"Really? On tour?" She nods. "Well, if you have any free time, call me."
She bites her lip and nods again. "We're there tomorrow night too."
"Good. See you 'round then." He shoots her a wink before climbing into his truck.
Lottie watches him drive off before she gets back on the RV and sighs heavily. She drops her snacks on the small table and tosses her one of her packs of cigarettes into her bunk, the other in the chest pocket of the borrowed shirt she's wearing.
She sits at the table, cracks the window open as far as it'll go then lights up. She blows the smoke out the barely open window and clears her throat. She can feel her head stop pounding.
"You okay?"
Lottie immediately drops the cigarette out the cracked window then turns around. "What're you doin' up?"
"Smelled smoke."
"Can't sleep."
He sits next to her, his curls a mess around his head. "Nightmare?"
"Been feelin' incredibly anxious since tour started." Riley wraps an arm around her shoulders and pulls her against his side.

"Whatcha wanna talk about?"
"Morgan called me." She tells him. "Told me he missed me." She tosses her phone onto the table before lighting another cigarette. "Said he's been thinkin' 'bout me a lot."
"What- What did you say back?"
"I said thanks." She glances between him and the table. "I don't even know what to feel anymore. I have so many things on my mind and I'm so stressed out, Ri." She finally shares, her head dropping in her hand. "What do I do?" Her voice starts to get shaky and squeaky.
He holds her closer, his hand running over the side of her head and through her hair. She starts to cry quietly, her arms wrapping around his neck as she scoots herself into his lap. "I'm sorry."
"For what?" He whispers back, rubbing her back with his chin on her head. "Y'ain't got nothin' to apologize for, Lot."
She wipes her eyes as she looks up at him. "Kiss me."
"Lot-"
"Just-" She cuts herself off and kisses him, readjusting herself to straddle his lap. Her fingers tangle through his messy curls while his hands grip her waist. Her mouth and lips taste like cigarettes but he doesn't mind.
She pulls back and takes in a shaky breath. "Hoss is gonna be in Baton Rouge when we are."
"Why?"
"Some reunion or somethin'." Her eyes are trained on his lips. "I'm horny."
"I- Lot-" His cheeks flame red at her words and he chuckles at himself. "C'mon." He nudges her out of the seat then stands. He grabs her hand and leads her to the back lounge area, pulling the shade shut. "You gotta be quiet. Can't wake no one up."
She rolls her eyes but nods. "Get a condom."

After the first show in Baton Rouge, Lottie's crouching outside the venue with a cigarette between her lips as she's flipping her phone over in her hand. She's been debating on if she should call Hoss or not.
Or if she should call Morgan.
Sure, Riley fucked some of the stress out of her but she's still got a shit ton on her shoulders.
Just as she's looking at her phone, it starts ringing. "What?"
"Don't sound so happy, Lottie." Morgan says. "Me and Hardy wrote a couple songs 'bout you."
"Why?"
"Cause I can't stop thinkin' 'bout you."
"Why would you tell me that? Why not keep it a fuckin secret like everyone else." It comes out more venomous than intended. "Why did you call me?"
He's speechless. She's never sounded this bitchy before.
"I can't keep... fucking around like this with you. I- I can't keep doing this. It ain't good for me and it ain't good for you."

"Lottie-"
"You've broke my heart too many times and I just- I just can't anymore." She takes a deep drag from her cigarette.
"I love you, Lottie-"
"Don't."
"Let's get together later-"
"I'm in Louisiana."
"For what?"
"I get back to Nashville in a few weeks. I gotta go to 'Bama 'fore I get home Thursday."
"I'll see you when you get back."
She almost audibly rolls her eyes. "Kay." She hangs up on him and pockets her cell then takes another drag from her cigarette.
"Hey."
Her head shoots up then she sighs. "Hey. How'd it go?"
"Missed you standin' on the side." Riley responds, crouching next to her. "You look pissed."
"I'm just real exhausted."
"Good news is that we got hotel rooms tonight since we're here tomorrow."
"Thank God. I can feel myself gettin' shorter from sleepin' in them bunk beds."
Riley laughs loudly. Sure she's a handful of inches shorter than him but he's got zero space in that cramped bed.
"Show over?"
"Uh, yeah." He nods. "Yeah, they're just packin' up then we'll be on our way to real showers and real beds."

"I don't like being in here by myself. The- The fuckin air conditioner's makin' a weird sound and I can't turn it down and I can hear the light buzzin' outside-"
"Lot, I'm in the room next door. You ain't completely by yourself." Riley sighs. "Just try to get some sleep." He can picture what she's doing right now. "Stop pacin', relax your jaw and take a deep breath."
"You know I don't like sleepin' by myself." She hears him take a deep breath and sit up. Riley makes his way to her door and knocks lightly.
Lottie hangs up to let him in.
She smiles to herself as she shuts the door. Riley sits himself on the queen size bed she has all to herself and turns on the tv. She picks up a clean pair of panties and a cleanish shirt then heads to the bathroom to take a shower.
After her long, hot shower, she's crawling under the hopefully clean sheets with Riley, cuddling up against his side.
"Catch Me if You Can is on." He whispers, mindlessly wrapping his fingers around hers as her hand rests on his bare chest.
She doesn't want to watch a movie, even if it's one of her favorites. They have their own rooms with privacy for the first time in who knows how long. She has other plans for the night.
Lottie's hand trails down his exposed abs and stops at the waistband of his boxers. "What're you up to, Lot?" He asks, a smile hinting in his voice.
"We had to be quick and quiet last time." She mumbles, pressing a teasing kiss to his neck. He hums and closes his eyes, his heartbeat picking up and his cock twitching. "Tonight, we ain't got no restrictions."
He laughs, the sound coming from his chest as he grabs her jaw and kisses her sloppily, pushing her back against the bed.
Lottie's back arches when she feels him starting to push into her. She cries out, her arm wrapping around his shoulders and her legs hooking over his hips.
"You feel so good." He breathes against her neck.
"Ri..." She whines, her fingernails digging into his back. Lottie's phone starts going off and she groans. "Don't stop."
"Wasn't gonna."
Her cell stops ringing and then it starts going off again. "God- Fuck off." She huffs, reaching for her phone. "What!?" She borderline snaps, Riley's dick still deep inside her.
"Been waitin' for your call." Hoss says.
Riley sits back, his arm around her waist to keep her where she's at. "You didn't take that hint?" She spits back, rolling her eyes.
"I wanna reconnect and you just tell me to leave you alone?"
"Yeah, fuck off." She bites her lip when Riley sneaks his hand between her legs and toys with that little bundle of nerves there. "I- I can't let you- you back into my life, Caleb. You broke my heart in high school." She shutters out a moan.
"What's goin' on? Who're you with!?"
"None of your goddamn business." Her head falls back as he starts kissing her neck, her fingers twisting in his soft curls. "I'm done, Hoss. I can't- I can't be with you again." She doesn't hold back a moan when Riley starts moving again. "Bye, Hoss."
"But-" She hangs up on him and drops her phone to the bed, pushing Riley back so she can start riding him.
"Who was that?" He asks, gripping her hips.
"You're askin' me that now?" She breathes, her head falling back as she moves. "Shut up and fuck me."
He smirks then laughs, maneuvering her on her hands and knees. They haven't fucked like this before but they're both super into it. She asks him to go harder and he's apprehensive at first but then gives her what she wants; ass smacking and hair pulling.
When they finish, Lottie laughs breathlessly. "You're movin' up on my list, Ri."
"You're still number one on mine." He flirts, leaning over to kiss her cheek.
"You wore me out, Riley Green." She yawns, tucking herself in under the sheets. "Come here and hold me." He smiles and pulls her close, his arm around her middle.

In this book, Charles gets hit by a car.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above.
