[Chapter 21]
I reunited with the Waverider with the others.
"You look good as a teenager," Leonard commented smirking at me.
"Actually, I'm playing a twenty-year-old. I met someone," I replied, catching Leonard off guard. He has a weird, threatened look on his face which makes me smile on the inside.
"Savage doesn't think I recognize him, which means he won't try to kill me. He can't steal my powers before I've found them," Kendra explained.
"Don't forget, we also have to figure out why he's killing the townsfolk," Ray added, as he ate the tuna casserole that Savage made.
"Are you really eating that?" Kendra asked, disgusted.
"Say what you want about Savage. He makes one hell of a casserole," Ray replied.
"Yes, well, Mr. Snart and I have been analyzing these forensic files," Rip stated.
"Which reveal nothing except Savage is very good at making people disappear," Leonard added.
"Hmm, something you both have in common," Jax muttered as the room fell silent.
"Are we just gonna pretend like none of this happened? That Mick Rory wasn't a part of our team? If you can just ice your best friend like that, I hate to think what you could do to us," Jax explained angrily.
My indigo eyes flash angrily but Leonard grips my hand, squeezing it to tell me that it's okay.
"Right now, we need to stay focused on the mission," Kendra said, trying to ease the tension.
"Look, Savage is going to be busy with this little cocktail party. Whilst you two keep an eye on him, Sara and Martin have the opportunity to find out what he's doing in the secret wingof that asylum," Rip explained as Stein and Sara nodded and left the room.
"I met someone who is investigating the murders. But before I could get any info out of him, you guys called me to the ship," I imply and Rip nods, understanding. "Alright, you may go. Just please don't kill him Isabelle," Rip asks and I smile.
"She's not going to kill her new crush," Jax says and I punch him on his shoulder.
"Shut up," I say sternly but blush.
-Back on the streets of Harmony Falls-
I hold onto my bag as I wander the streets. It was beginning to get dark and the wind was blowing like crazy again. After I've turned left for the millionth time, I sigh in discouragement and turn around.
I gasp as I turn right into Johnathon. I inhale sharply, I am just inches away from his face.
"Looking for me?" He asked hopefully.
"Yes actually. I need your help," I say softly, the air around us turning cold and my breath rises up into the air.
"At your service, but first I need something from you," he says softly. I shake my head and step back.
"Sure, what do you need?" I say, putting a little space between us.
"Nevermind, it's okay. So what do you need my help for?" Johnathon questions.
"Well, I'm looking into the murders happening around the town and I've hit a dead end. I was hoping you had some information that could help me?" I ask, hopeful.

"Sure. But I have to warn you, a lot of it is based on suspicion. I'm not able to confirm anything. How about we discuss it over a cup of coffee?" Johnathon asks me, smiling.
"I would love to Johnathon, but I'm on a time limit. My partners are expecting information as soon as possible so we can stop these murders," I sigh. I feel bad that I had to turn his offer at another date down.
"Oh okay, don't hate me for this then," Johnathon says.
"I look at him confusedly.
"For wha-" I get cut off when Johnathon closes the distance between us and kisses me. I freeze, not kissing him back. The second Johnathon's lips touched mine, memories flooded my mind. Things from the beginning of my existence.
I saw Jayden and Emily and unknown faces that could only be my parents. Or I hope they're my parents. I saw myself happy. Playing with Jayden as a toddler. Emily coming home for the first time. Happy memories.
Suddenly, we jump from my family to me waking up and finding Jay Jay and Emmy. Our small life in many towns.
Playing together.
Cooking together.
Surviving together.
I saw their death, the worst moment of my life. I heard Jayden's last words and watched him die. I feel the pain of melting and felt the death of every person in the village who died. I felt my agony in the months after. I killed every human I saw. I trained with an assassin, learning other techniques to kill people without always needing to call onto my powers. I watched the assassin's death and then I watched myself die.
I watched my rebirth as a teenager. I relived through every death, every kill, every memory, everything I thought I would have been able to forget. I scream in agony, clutching my head. When I screamed, I broke the connection between me and Johnathon and I fell to the ground, rocking back and forth, trying to rid the memories from my brain.
"What the hell was that for?!" I screamed at him, tears spilling down my cheeks. "How could you have done that to me?!"
"I had to see if you killed her! I had to see if it was you who killed all of these people," Johnathon yelled back at me.
"Killed who?" I ask, breathing heavily. I stop for a moment, gaining a little control of myself. "You were there. In my memories with my family. You're like me." I say with realization.
"I am nothing like you," Johnathon spat.
"You were my best friend," I say with widened eyes.
"Shut up!" He yelled at me.
"Who did I kill?" I say.
"Stop!"
"Who did I kill?!"
"You killed my best friend! The you I knew would never hurt anyone. The person I used to know would help everyone and never stop smiling. She would never stop being so optimistic, it was annoying," Johnathon yelled at me.
"We fell in love," I say with realization. "How did we become like this?" I ask.
"I don't know," Johnathon admits. "I do know that this has destroyed you."

"This didn't destroy me and you know it. You were in my fricking brain! Jayden and Emily are dead and it made me lose it. I thought I was alone," I say defiantly.
"I've been watching you for years now. You never stopped. You never forgave," he said.
"I had to relieve my siblings' death over and over again. Every time I lose my memory, it comes back and I feel hatred and anger all over again. I feel the need to make them pay. You don't understand how scared and lost I felt. Maybe instead of watching me, you should have helped me," I explain.
"Maybe I should have helped you but why are you different now. You walked down the street full of people and yet you didn't slaughter them all," Johnathon asked.
"Johnathon, I don't care if you believe me or not but I'm from the future and I met people... humans... that made me want to change. They made me want to be better. I will never be the girl you knew again but I can be better," I say, walking away.
"I know you are from the future. As I said, I've been watching you," Johnathon sighs. "I'm really sorry Isabelle. For bringing those memories back on you and yelling at you. Here," he reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a little silver ring.
He places in my palm. On the inside of the band, it had two names engraved in the silver.
Isabelle & Johnathon: Winter Light
"Whenever you need me, no matter where or when, using you magic and call out my name and i will come to you," Johnathon explained.
"How does it work?" I ask with wonder, slipping the beautiful ring on my finger.
"It's a part of my ring," he said holding up his hand to show me his ring.
"Whoever has your ring controls you and your powers. You only have a small piece, so if you call, you can bring me to you, but you can't control me," Johnathon said with a smile.
I clutch Jay Jay and Emmy's rings around my neck. "I still have my siblings rings," I say.
"Then you possess great power, Isabelle. You are the strongest person in the world when you hold all three rings. You will unlock powers you've never had before," Johnathon says. He took my hand and kissed it.
"Please don't use the power for bad purposes Isabelle," Johnathon begged.
"I won't," I say. "I'm not that person anymore. I promise I'll be better."
Johnathon hugs me.
"If you are wondering what we are Isabelle, we are Elementals."
-Back on the ship-
I walked into the med bay to findthe 'unhappy cheerleader' bleeding on the table.
"What happened?" Stein asked, coming up from behind me.
"I don't know. But I'm guessing Jax and Peggy Sue had a pretty lousy first date," Leonard explained and looked at me but I looked distantly straight ahead.
"Where is Jefferson?" Stein asked worriedly.
"There was no sign of him in the car," Rip explained.
"These wounds don't appear consistent with a knife," Stein said looking at the girl.
"Correct. I believe these lacerations were made by talons," Gideon replied.
"It was Tommy," The cheerleader mumbled.
"Tommy Fuller, one of the missing teenagers," Rip explained.
"He was like a bird. He... he was like a bird monster," The cheerleader explained.
"Captain, analysis of Miss Seavers' blood reveals traces of silicate minerals," Gideon explained.
"Miss Seavers, do you recall Tommy coming into contact with a meteor of some kind?" Rip asked.
"The car crash... it was... it was glowing," Miss Seaver replied.
"She's talking about a Nth Metal meteorite," Stein explained shocked.
"Say something that makes sense," Leonard said annoyed.
"It seems Mr. Fuller has come into contact with a meteorite with mutagenic properties," Stein explained.
"Try again," Sara added.
"Apparently, Miss Seavers' boyfriend has been exposed to the same type of meteor that Kendra came into contact with," Rip explained as we left the med bay and returned to Kendra andRay.
"Me?" Kendra asked as we told her the news.
"Well, you and Carter. 4,000 years ago. The meteorite which gave you your powers appears to be of the same variety that mutated Tommy Fuller," Stein explained.
"And I'm guessing it's not curable," Leonard stated.
"Well, I-I suppose, if the talons which lacerated her left some mutagenic residue, I could..." Stein explained
"Yes or no?" Sara interrupted.
"Perhaps," Stein replied sternly.
"Why don't you get to work on that, Martin?" Rip said and Stein left the room.
"Okay, so if Savage isn't the one doing the killing, what is he doing in town?" I asked.
"Doesn't matter," Ray said excitedly as he pulled out a dagger.
"We can take him down," Kendra added.
"The Amon Dagger. Where did you..." Rip asked, shocked.
"Savage's house," Ray replied.
"All right, we need to proceed on two fronts: locate Jefferson and make an all-out assault on Savage," Rip stated.
"A full-on attack only plays to Savage's strengths. If we want to get him..." I started to explain.
"We need to target his weaknesses," Rip finished.
"Sadly, very few come to mind," Rip added.
"I can think of one. Me. He wants me, and he always has. So if I can get close enough to him, then..." Kendra explained.
"Then he'll kill you," Ray said worriedly.
"Thank you for the vote of confidence, but I don't need your protection," Kendra said annoyed.
"There's no reason to go alone. We're part of a team for a reason," Ray explained.
"Yes, and the team seems comfortable with me doing this, so that makes it about you and me," Kendra snapped before grabbing the dagger and walking off.
"Isabelle, a word?' Leonard asked and I nodded as we walked off.
"Are you okay?' Leonard asked and I shrug.
"Did something happen?" Leonard pressed.
"No I'm not okay, but it doesn't matter."
"Of course it matters. Did this person you meet do something?" Leonard demanded but I remain silent.
"He kissed you, didn't he?" Leonard yelled, his eyes blazing.
"N-" I try to explain but Leonard storms off.
I sigh and slid down the wall, and cry,
Grieving for my mother and father.
Grieving for my brother and sister.
Grieving for Isabelle Light.
Daughter. Sister. Lover. Friend.
Happiest spirit alive.
Until she died.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
