King's Landing
110 a.c.
"Are you drunk, princess?" Cassandra asked.
"No, are you drunk Lady Cassandra?" Rhaenyra asked with a drunk smile.
"No, I'm not. Do you think that after three glasses of wine I'll get drunk?" Cassandra asked ironically, with a drunk smile on her face too.
"Let's have some fun." Rhaenyra offered.
"No, let's not stay here because we're going to do some stupidity." Cassandra replied. "I don't think we can go around King's Landing at this time of night."
"I think we are in perfect condition. Come on, I'll show you my favorite place. You'll love it." Rhaenyra said happily.
"How do you know I would love it?" Cassandra asked.
"We are not very different, lady Cassandra, we are even similar. Come with me and you'll see." She said trying to convince Cassandra to go with her.
Cassandra was not sure.
"Come on, it will be fun." Rhaenyra said giving a hand to Cassandra.
Cassandra took her hand and felt the gentle hands of the princess and her soft eyes. She knew the princess was drunk, but that look was real.
While running around the hallways of The Red Keep, Cassandra felt this strange feeling in her belly, and she wasn't sure why.
"We got here! This is my favourite place in King's Landing." Rheanyra said breathtaking by the running.
"It looks magical." Cassandra said looking at the oak tree.
"Because it is. Here I spend most of my time if I don't fly with Syrax."
"I understand why. It's very nice." Cassandra said smiling.
"I told you you would love it."
"You think you know a lot about me, Princess?"
"Yeah, because you are just like me." Rhaenyra said with a little smile on her face.
"I am not like you Rhaenyra. You know why. Because I will never sit on the side and watch a girl I call a friend crying in the wet roses." Cassandra said taking the smile off her face.
"But we were children. We were one, now we are others." Rhaenyra said to fix the situation.

"People don't change so easily, Rhaenyra" Cassandra replied. "I still can't forget the shame and sadness I felt when-"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that. I wanted to come to you but I couldn't because of Alicent," Rhaenyra said, trying to apologize.
"If you wanted to come, you would. I had no friends in Storm's End. The only friend I had was you. And what did you do? Let me cry covered with mud and roses in front of everyone."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it. It wasn't my fault. But now I want us to be friends. I want to have our old relationship. I don't want you to hate me." Rhaenyra said in the hope of Cassandra to forgive her.
"There is no way to get our friendship back, Princess." Cassandra turn around and leave Rhaenyra alone in The Godswood.
As Cassandra walked to her room she saw something glamorous on the floor in the hallway. Shee bent to pick it up and immediately realized that it was Rhaenyra's ring, which apparently fell off her hand and while they were running.
Cassandra didn't want to see her again tonight, so she decided she would return it to her in the morning.
Cassandra entered her room and prepared for bed. Dressed her sleeping clothes and lay down in her bed. She left Rhaenyra's ring on the wardrobe next to her bed. While she was trying to sleep, she kept thinking about the ring and Rhaenyra.
Hours passed when Cassandra was spinning in her bed. She couldn't sleep because she thought of the Princess.
It was too late, but Cassandra decided to go and return the ring to Rhaenyra because he thought she couldn't sleep because of the ring.
She knocked 3 times on the door of Rhaenyra's chambers, while waiting for her to wake up and open.
"Mary what's so late in the evening?" Rhaenyra asked while she was opening the door.
"I am not Mary." Cassandra answered with a humble tone.
"What are you doing here?" Rhaenyra asked.
"Can I go inside?" She asked Cassandra without shame because she knew Rhaenyra would let her inside.

Rhaenyra moved from the door and opened it wide for Cassandra.
"I'll ask again, why are you here at this time?"
"I found it in the hallway and took it back to you. I thought I'd give it back to you tomorrow morning, but my plans changed." Cassandra replied.
"Why have they changed?" Rhaenyra asked while a little smile appeared on her lips.
"Because I couldn't sleep here. I can't sleep well in new places. Is there a problem if i sit here with you?"
"No." Rhaenyra responded with a smile because she would be able to spend more time with Cassandra and had a chance to fix things between them.
"Tell me something interesting about you." Rhaenyra said so she can make a conversation with Cassandra.
"What do you want to know about me?" Cassandra asked with a small smile on her face.
"Everything. I want to know everything about you."Rhaenyra said, while she was staring at Cassandra .
Cassandra could feel Rhaenyra's eyes on her, which followed every single movement.
"You can't know everything about me. At least until I tell you, but I don't have that intention." Cassandra responded without looking at the princess.
"I will find out everything about you believe me." Rhaenyra said watching the smile on Cassandra's face. "I got my eyes on you."
"Don't be so sure Princess. Cassandra replied, again without looking at her. "I think I'm tired enough to sleep."
"If you want, you can stay with me." Rhaenyra Softly said, expecting Cassandra to refuse her proposal.
"Why not. I would stay if you would not be uncomfortable to share your bed with me."
Cassandra knew that Rhaenyra offered to stay to irritate her, but Cassandra had no intention of giving up so easily and accepted her offer.
Both lay on the bed and Rhaenyra hemmed slightly the curve so that they could turn. The curve was only one and the two had to share it. Rhaenyra didn't think Cassandra would like to continue their conversations in bed, but Cassandra turned to Rhaenyra and looked deep into her eyes.
"Goodnight princess!" Cassandra said while watching Rhaenyra.
Rhaenyra was not worried about sharing her bed. She has done this with Alicent many times in her childhood. The problem was Cassandra. Rhaenyra felt some strange feeling when she was with Cassandra.
"Goodnight Lady Cassandra!" She replied with a soft tone Rhaenyra and closed her eyes.
While the two of them slept, Rhaenyra overheard some strange sounds and woke up. She saw Cassandra trembling and talking in her nightmare.
"No, don't touch me!" Cassandra was talking. "Don't touch me, you have no right!"
Rhaenyra took her hands and hugged her to calm her down. "Cassandra, it's me, it's me,i am here, calm down everything is fine. You are safe with me. Everything is okay." Rhaenyra kept telling her that everything was fine until Cassandra woke up and saw Rhaenyra.
"You're Safe Now!" Rhaenyra told Cassandra while holding her hands gently.
Cassandra was very scared, but it wasn't the first time that she dreamed of this. This was a childhood trauma that Cassandra had. The trauma had appeared after one of the cookers at Storm's End had attacked Cassandra in an attempt to rape her, but just then Borros saw them and stuck his sword in the cooker. From this point on, Cassandra cannot stop dreaming about what happened.
Rheanyra and Cassandra remained hugged. Cassandra had put her head on Rhaenyra's shoulder, and Rhaenyra gently played with her long brown hair.
Cassandra felt safe when she was next to Rhaenyra, and quickly fell asleep. Rhaenyra fell asleep immediately after seeing Cassandra sleeping and making sure that the young lady was okay.
Cassandra didn't know where the comfort and safety she felt when she was with the princess came from. She knew that in the morning she would have to explain what the nightmare was, but she wasn't worried about it because Rhaenyra was next to her and held her hand gently...

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021.
