《Changing The Course of Fate》Chapter 4 - Haircut

When Pier arrived at the greenhouse, he can hear the faint yet rapid breathing of the young guard.
Huff... Huff... Huff... The young guard was catching his breath as he placed his hand on his chest.
"Y-Young master, I can't believe you walk so fast... huff..." Pier looked at the young guard sympathetically before handing him his handkerchief.
The young guard's eyes widened at the gesture of his young master.
"Y-Young master, I-I'm fine, you d-don't need to dirty your precious handkerchief for a mere guard like me!" He was stuttering as if it was his last day. The corner of Pier's lips started to go up at the once again nervous guard.
"No, take it. I don't want to see people faint in front of me and besides, it was my fault I went too fast," he said before handing the guard his handkerchief once more. The young guard gulped and his adam's apple bobbed.
Afraid that his young master would get mad at him for refusing his goodwill, the young guard's shaking hand received the handkerchief.
"T-Thank you, young master! I will make sure to treasure this as a family heirloom!" He said as if a god has given him its blessing. Pier grimaced at the young guard's actions but decided to not speak anymore as he opened the door of the greenhouse.
The atmosphere immediately calmed him down and the coolness gave him a sense of serenity as plants of various types were growing beautifully at every corner.
As he entered the beautiful greenhouse, an old man that was wearing a farming hat and a watering can in his right hand approached him.
'I guess he's the caretaker of the greenhouse.' Pier smiled at the caretaker
"Hello, I was wonder-" but before he could finish his sentence, the caretaker approached him and held Pier's hands
"N-Nature! I-It's surrounding you!" Pier's eyes widened at the actions of the caretaker
'What's this old man talking about?'
But before he could voice out his thoughts, the old man was pushed back and the young guard stood in front of him. The guard drew his sword out and held onto it firmly.
"You dare touch our young master's hands without his permission!" The vicious glare of the young guard was directed at the old man whose eyes were still shaking while looking at Pier.
The old man tried to approach Pier once more but the young guard was quick to act and pointed his sword at the old man's chest.
"Move once more and I shall end your life for the dignity of my esteemed master!" Pier watched the scene unfold before him which made him anxious about what would happen if he would not step in. He looked at the clumsy young guard and he now looked like a dignified soldier that was protecting his master.
Pier placed his hand on the young guard's shoulders and stepped forward
"Young mast-" the guard said but Pier stopped him
"It's fine, he did not hurt me anywhere either," he said as he looked at the old man whose gaze was still fiery as ever
"May I ask what you meant by nature is surrounding me?" Pier asked the old man gently
"N-Nature! It's faint but I can tell that it's there!" The old man shivered as he said that but Pier only looked at him as if he was looking at a crazy person. He was further bewildered when the old man started to get on his knees and cry
"F-Finally, the savior is here!" he said as he clasped his hands and looked up at Pier like he was some sort of God. The young master started getting uncomfortable at the individual's actions causing him to step back and called the guard instead.

"Let's just come back another time," he quietly said as the guard who was standing stiff beside him nodded and looked at the old man viciously. He started walking out of the greenhouse and as he peeked back, he can still see the old man kneeling while clasping his hand.
He left the greenhouse feeling frustrated because all his plans for the day were ruined.
--
Pier's eyebrows were furrowed as the young guard escorted him out of the greenhouse back to the entrance. The guard saw this and thought that he and the caretaker's life were now in their final moments.
"F-Forgive me, young master. I wasn't able to escort you properly and one of the caretakers of the greenhouse had done you wrong," the young guard spoke as he bowed his head at a ninety-degree angle his body silently shaking with fear.
Pier scrunched his face in confusion at the young guard's actions. The guard then started shaking more in fear.
"It's fine, I wasn't hurt or anything. Thank you for escorting me back to the entrance," he said nonchalantly. He was still thinking about the old man's actions earlier.
'Savior? who? me? I'm not Jesus or anything,' he thought.
"It's my pleasure, young master. Please allow me to escort you further until you ride your carriage." the young guard was clearly relieved by Pier's response and was respectfully asking him to escort him to his carriage.
"Ah, thank you for the offer, sir knight but I did not bring any carriage with me. I will be going back now. Please do take good care of the Western Area." he smiled at the young guard and at the same time brushed his semi-long hair behind his ear.
The young guard stared in a daze at the beautiful person in front of him before realizing that his young master was now starting to walk back without waiting for his response.
"I will, young master," he said and Pier smiled at his response.
---
'I should've taken a carriage with me!'
He thought as the sun continued to shine brighter above him. He was sweating bullets as he walked back to the mansion located in the central area. It took Pier a good twenty-minute walk before reaching the entrance of the mansion.
Another problem was his semi-long hair that keeps on getting in his vision.
When he reached the entrance, the old knight guarding it seemed shocked at the sight of his sweaty young master.
"Young master! Are you okay?" the old knight asked and Pier only nodded his head as a response.
"Please allow me to escort you back to the mansion because you seem tired, young master!" the old knight was in a panic but Pier wanted to take a bath right this moment so he did not care about the old knight's request.
The old knight grabbed an umbrella before walking behind his young master and covering him with the umbrella's shade. Pier felt grateful to the old knight because he was not feeling too hot anymore.
Once he reached the entrance, the newly hired butler greeted him with a concerned gaze.
"Prepare a bath for me and while I'm in the bath, contact the family hairdresser," he said without stopping in his tracks.
"As you wish, young master." The butler bowed respectfully before calling the other butlers to prepare their young master's bath.
---
Pier was carefully choosing his clothes after taking a bath when he heard a knock on his bedroom door.
"Young master, I am here to inform you that the hairdresser has arrived." The soft voice of a maid came outside the door.

"Alright, I will come down now," he said before grabbing a white suit with dark embroideries on the sleeves and wearing his family crest.
He checked his face once more in the mirror and thought about a good haircut that would suit Pier's face. His semi-long hair that did not reach his shoulder but was annoying enough to cover his eyes was pretty good but it was too bland for Eliam who was now inside Pier's body.
'Of course, I would shorten it because too long is too annoying.'
He smiled as he decided what would be good and would complement his face more.
Pier walked out of his room after choosing his suit for the remainder of the day. As he walked down the stairs, he could hear the incomprehensible mumbling of the servants he passed through. It seems like a new gossip is going around the territory.
'I don't care anyway.'
Little did he know that he is the center of the gossip in the entire territory for the past few days.
Pier shrugged his shoulders and walked further until he reached the receiving room for the guests. He then saw a lady sitting on one of the couches while sipping tea.
'She looks elegant while sipping tea, is she the hairdresser? Wait, just because she looked elegant while sipping tea then she's the hairdresser?' Pier asked himself but did not bother to answer because once the woman's eyes landed on him, her eyes sparkled as if she found a precious thing
"Greetings, young master Pier. I am Elieza Castor, the appointed hairdresser of our esteemed Headmaster Ronnovian." she then bowed more elegantly. The way her dress was laid out behind her made Pier amazed. He saw these kinds of people in high society before.
"Welcome, Lady Castor. Pardon me for the sudden call in the middle of the day without prior notice." Pier then smiled at her warmly.
Her eyes glimmered at the view of the infamous young master of house Belmiunde.
'Beautiful,' she inwardly thought. The young master in front of him was the perfect fit for that word. She carefully observed Pier as the latter sat down comfortably on one of the couches in front of the one she was sitting in before.
She could not help but notice Pier's tall stature. He wasn't extremely tall but he also did not get left behind by most of the male nobles in the kingdom.
Pier's skin looked extremely soft even though she wasn't touching it. His complexion looked more on the paler side but his black hair and blue eyes complimented the skin tone perfectly.
'He looks straight out of a painting!' She was wondering what she could do for this young master who already looks good enough for almost everyone to envy.
'House Castor, huh. Based on Pier's memory they are one of the vassal houses of house Belmiunde. They are also one of the kingdom's leading houses when it comes to training knights.' Pier's piercing gaze landed on Elieza and she started fidgeting but neither Pier nor the people around them noticed.
His gaze was something she never had even thought to be bothered by before but now, it felt like she was being thoroughly assessed.
'Rumors could never be trusted. Foolish my ass! He's not someone you could easily handle. This person is already judging my entire worth with only his gaze!' she shivered at her thoughts. Pier stopped thinking about irrelevant things at this moment and focused on what he called Elieza here for.
"Please give me a haircut." He smiled. Elieza looked at him dumbfoundedly.
'Haircut?' She inquired herself and wanting to properly identify if what she heard was right. 'Well... I'm a hairdresser.' Elieza shrugged her shoulders at the silly thought.
"Is there something wrong, Lady Castor?" Pier asked the woman in front of her because she only stared at him.
"A-Ah, there's nothing wrong, young master. I shall fulfill your request!" she exclaimed as she bowed at the young man in front of her.
'The rumors about him being rejected by the Crown Prince must have been true!' She thought the rumors about how the Crown Prince had openly rejected the Belmiunde household's young master were wrong. 'But it seems it was true!' Her thoughts about Pier were never ending.
She felt excited for some odd reason. 'Young master Pier must have wanted to change himself after being rejected by the crown prince! I shall do my best to fulfill his request!' It was as if she was helping the young master mend his broken heart by cutting his hair.
"Thank you, Lady Castor," he said as he forced himself not to yawn. He was getting tired after walking back and forth between the mansion and the Western Area.
"The pleasure is all mine, young master" Elieza noticed how tired Pier's eyes looked and she inwardly pitied the young master whose affection was not accepted by his interest.
They then stood up after chatting some more and started heading towards the dressing room on the first floor
Elieza followed the young master behind and could not help but notice Pier's actions once more. 'As expected of the Belmiunde household, his strides are sophisticated and elegant. He even looks extremely confident even though he just came from having his heart broken!' She could feel the giddiness inside her boiling.
Once they reached the dressing room, Elieza instructed Pier to sit on a stool provided by the servants. She then asked Pier
"What would you like the cut to be, young master?" She asked.
"Ah, can you please just shorten it and style it with whatever you think fits my face?" Pier instructed as he looked at his face in the mirror.
Gasp! The hairdresser wanted to cover her mouth in surprise but she never did so. It would be inappropriate to let the young master of the House of Masters see such a display.
'I knew it, he wanted to shorten his hair as a sign of sorrow!' Elieza started making assumptions once more and Pier did not know what was running on his hairdresser's mind right now.
"I see. Then shall we start, young master?" She smiled beautifully and Pier smiled in response. "Please do."
Elieza held the soft hair in her hands. They were not long but they were neither short as well.
'It's even softer than my hair!' She could not help but admire the characteristics Pier possessed.
She carefully held the strands together and started cutting along with her tools.
--
Pier carefully looked at the mirror in front of him. He was reading a newspaper brought by the servants so he was not able to properly notice the entire process.
'I look... really good...' He inwardly gasped at the image in front of him.
The hair on each side and at the back was trimmed well and the top portion was combed to the side. It was just a normal cut in his world and he did not expect too much out of it but the way Elieza had done it was next level.
Elieza was looking at the mirror as well. She couldn't take her eyes off the young master who now has shorter hair and a manlier look.
'Every unmarried person would want this person in front of me right now!' she thought.
'I look like one of those models in famous magazines,' Pier continued admiring himself.
"Thank you, Lady Castor. You have exceeded my expectations," he complimented the young lady.
"The pleasure is all mine, young master!" She replied.
They both gave their thanks and conversed a little bit more until it was time for Elieza to head back because she had other appointments for today. Pier hoped they would get more chances to talk with each other soon.
'She seems like she will be a good person to chat with.'
