I look at myself in the mirror and sigh. I know I should probably care about how I present myself, but I've been stuck in this house for far to long to care. For the first day back to school I wear my hair up in a ponytail, with a salmon headband, a velvet but fuzzy sweater, grey sweats that are folded at the top, and white vans.
I look bummy. My aesthetic is preppy, so this doesn't fit me at all, but for now I don't care. Grabbing my phone I throw it in my backpack and go for stairs to grab a quick breakfast then catch the bus before I miss it.
"Hey sweetheart," mom greets me when I walk into the kitchen.
"Good morning mamma," I walk over and kiss her on the cheek. Then proceeded to open the fridge.
"So sweetheart. Your father and I agreed that you can have your car keys back."
I grabbed and apple and quickly turned around shutting the fridge door, "wait what? For real?"
She nods her head, "we have no reason not to trust you. That doesn't mean that you're getting your phone back though."
I kiss her on the cheek, "but I don't have to take the bus anymore that is the best Christmas present you could give me!"
My dad sits at the table reading the newspaper. I go over and kiss him on the cheek before taking my keys off the key hook.
"Leaving already?" Mom asks me.
I nod my head, "yup. I'll be back straight after school."
"Okay honey!" Is all I hear before the front door shuts.
I dance around in the driveway for a second before unlocking my car. I didn't get in yet though, simply unlocked the doors, threw in my backpack, and continued to dance next to it. Continuously I chanted 'I got my car back'. This semester couldn't be that bad after all.
Hopping in I started the engine, hearing my baby purr to life made my smile widen even more. Looking in the rear view mirror I prepared to back up, that is before I saw her.

My neighbor. She looked flawless as always. Her hair had grown some since she last cut it. She smiled brightly up at the guy who stood next to her. Her smile could give anyone a run for their money.
Groaning I shook my head, and reversed out the driveway. Off to school for me.
📚📚✏️✏️🤓🤓
The bell rang signaling lunch at last. Slowly I began packing up my stuff; Not to eager to go to lunch. Especially since I don't have a clue as to who I'm sitting with.
I'll probably get food and eat in my car. If I eat quickly I can go to the library for some light reading. Possibly even get a new book.
Nodding my head I get up. I'm the last to leave the classroom. I start heading towards the cafeteria.
When did I become a loner? Was I always a loner? I probably just didn't realize it with all my 'friends' around when I dated Finn. Well. Serves me right. How did I not notice my boyfriend was a cheater?
In the midst of getting lost in my head, I didn't notice the boy riding his skateboard down the hall holding four milkshakes in a drink carrier. My eyes widened and I stood in place. Frozen. He attempted to stop, but it was already to late. He ran into me and spilt the milkshake he was carrying.
"Tyler what the fuck?! I told you not to ride that thing!"
I groan. Now I have milkshake in my hair.
"Oh, my bad," he gets up and offers me a hand.
I frown and take it, "you got milkshake in my hair."
"And it's dripping down your back also." He nervously smiled and scratched the back of his neck.
"What's going on here?" The principal Mr.Sea walked towards the scene.
"Nothing," Grace is the first to talk, "Tyler just ran into Brooke." She hid his skateboard behind her back along with the bag of McDonald's.
"Mhmm, and made a big mess," he looks at the three of us and pulls the waki taki out of his pocket and calls for the janitor, "miss EverHeart, help farewell get cleaned up. You're dismissed."

Just my luck. The person I'm supposed to be avoiding is now going to be helping me get milkshake out of my hair in the girls bathroom. This should be fun.
"Well, looks like I'm off the hook!" Tyler grabbed his skateboard from Grace and started walking off.
Grace however grabbed the back of his backpack pulling him back, "I don't think so. This your mess, and your mess only."
He sighs and looks at me, "hey I'm sorry about that by the way. I thought you'd move out the way."
I crossed my arms, "well I didn't." Looking around I avoided eye contact.
"Well you see that's not my fault."
"Why were you riding your skateboard in the halls in the first place?!" I raised my voice a bit.
"I was trying to get to the cafeteria before Grace. If you look at it in the right angle it's her fault and not mine. Case adjourned, can I have my food now?" He turns turns Grace.
She rolls her eyes, "you can wait until we get out of the bathroom," she looks at me, "come one I'll help you wash your hair in the sink." She speaks softly.
We start walking towards the girls bathroom. Silently.
"Wait, you're taking the food in the bathroom? That's not sanitary. My food must not touch bathroom air!" Tyler stops us outside the bathroom.
Grace sighs. Taking her backpack off her back she stuff the bag of food inside, "there happy?"
Tyler frowns, "hurry up." He speaks under his breathe.
Ignoring him we walk inside the bathroom. Grace starts running the sink while I take of my backpack.
Cringing I dip my hair in the sink full of cold water. To think it was going to be a good day. It started off so good. That's what I get.
"So, hows it going?" Grace tried to make conversation.
"I'd prefer if we didn't talk."
"When did you get so spunky? Also I don't get while your mad at me. I did absolutely nothing wrong." She spoke while running her fingers through my hair in the water.
"You did nothing wrong?" I scoff, "Grace you completely ignored me after I did nothing wrong!"
"Look, okay I know that was wrong, and I'm sorry. I was going through some stuff."
I slap her hands away from my hair, "like I wasn't?"
"I was just so surprised to see you with my best friend, in that McDonald's especially since you were supposed to be grounded, but I wasn't ignoring you there. I actually tried talking to you."
I shook my head, "I'm my own person. I don't have to explain anything to you."
"So you are screwing my best friend?"
I pick up my head and look at her, "what?"
"You heard me."
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" I went over and grabbed some paper towels from the dispenser.
"Funny how quick you replaced me with Terra." She continued talking.
"Same goes for you. Replacing me for Tyler. Messing around with him to?"
She didn't respond or look up at me.
"That's what I thought. You have no room to judge me Grace. Especially since you just fucking screwed around with me and then when things got tough threw me away like a piece of trash!" By now I was yelling, "I'm done with your bullshit!" Grabbing my bag I go to leave.
"It wasn't like that." She grabs my wrist pulling me back. I stumble into the wall.
"Then what was it like?" I steadied myself.
"Your parents don't like me. They'd never let us be an 'us'. If you haven't noticed. I'm not exactly picture perfect like you. I do stupid things, I ruin everything! Just how I ruined the chance of us being anything more than friends. For that I'm sorry. I really did like you though."
She walked out the bathroom leaving me speechless.
She liked me?
I liked her also.
I'm definitely not straight.
