I wake up to Olive crying, this so actually the first time she's cried during the night surprisingly. Juliet yawns sitting up.
"Go back to sleep I'll get her." I say and she nods laying back down and I stand up and walk to the nursery and when I walk in she stops crying.
"What's wrong princess?" I say and walk over to the crib and pick her up.
"Are you hungry?" I ask and sit down and lift my shirt and she turn away. I fix my shirt and lift her off of me.
"Just grumpy?" I ask her and she lays down on top of me and her eyes start closing slowly. She must of just woken up and wanted cuddles. I kiss her head and rub her back.
Juliet walks in yawning in her underwear and bra.
"What's wrong with her?" She asks rubbing her eyes.
"I don't know, I think she wanted cuddles." I say and she nods.
"What time is it?" I ask Juliet and she walks over to the iPad.
"Three fifty six." She says.
"We haven't been asleep long." I say and look at olive and her thumb was in her mouth.
"Can you pass her pacifier?" I ask Juliet and she walks over to the crib and looks and the checks the sides. She kneels down on the ground looking under the crib.
"It's not here." She says.
"What do you mean it's not there?" I ask her.
"Did she have it going to sleep?" She asks and I nod.
"Yes definitely." I say and she furrows her eyebrows and I get the shivers.
"I'll get another one form the dresser." She says and walks over to the dresser and open it.
"What the fuck?" She says.
"What?"
"Where are they?"
"In the drawer you looking in?"
"No there not." She says and I stand up holding olive and walk over and all the pacifiers were gone.
"I have a bad feeling about this whole thing Juliet, first the knocking and the door locking and unlocking by itself now all the pacifiers are missing. I'm going to get cameras tomorrow." I say and she nods.

"Okay, I'll bring olives foldable crib into our room tonight." Juliet says and I nod and walk to me and Juliet's room and sit down on the bed with olive on laying down on my lap.
Juliet comes in and puts the crib next to our bed and fixes it. I stand up and kiss olives head before putting her in.
"Come on, let's go back to sleep now." She says and I nod and she goes over closing the door and turning off the light and we get into bed.
I cuddle up to Juliet and our legs tangle and her hand goes around my waist and I red my head against her chest.
"I love you." I tell her and she kisses the top of my head.
"I love you too." She says and I close my eyes going back to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up and Juliet and olive were both still asleep, I get out of bed and put on my slippers and open the door and close it behind me. I walk downstairs to the kitchen and hop up on the counter to get a mug to make Juliet coffee.
"Hello." I hear Maria's voice and I jump off the counter and drop the mug and it shatters.
"Jesus Christ Maria!" I shout and put a hand to my heart.
"Dramatic much?"
"Shut up I didn't even hear the door. What are you doing here?" I ask her and walk around the glass and grab the broom and clean the glass.
"Am I not aloud over?" She asks and hops up sitting on the counter.
"You are but it's like eight am." I say and she rolls her eyes.
"Nadia broke up with me." She shrugs and looks at her nails.
"What? Why?" I stop brushing and look at her and she closes her eyes for a second and breathes in then opens them and smiles slightly.
"She said she needed space or whatever." She shrugs and I put the brush down and go over hopping onto the counter and hug her.
"Leave it out girl." I say and she start crying and turns and hugs me.
"Why can't I find my Juliet like you did?" She asks and I rub her back.
"You will Maria trust me, you just have to wait for them. You can't force love, I had no intention of being with Juliet at first but we connected. We fell in love after getting to know each other, you have to communicate and understand each other so much that no matter what happens you don't leave each other. And of course I thought Juliet was extremely attractive when I first saw her but I fell in love with her personality, she makes me laugh on days where I feel like shit and don't want to talk to her.I don't know if Nadia is your soulmate that's only something for you to figure out yourself but I don't think it's over for you two." I say and she sniffles and leans back.
"Thank you." She says and I smile and wipe her running mascara.
"You're my best friend Maria, I'm always here for you." I say and she nods.
"I'm going to go home and get really drunk." She says and hops off the counter.
"Maria there's better things that can help." I say and she shakes her head.
"It's one of those days I need to bury myself with alcohol." She says and I nod.
"Call me if you need anything." I say and she nods.
"I will, I'll talk to you later." She says and waves and walks out.
I clean up the glass then make Juliet a glass of coffee and make her toast with avocado then walk up stairs carefully making sure I don't spill the coffee.
I open the door with my elbow and walk over to Juliet's side of the bed and put the coffee and plate down on the night stand. I lift the blanket and tickle her and she jumps.
"Spencer!" She says rubs her hands over her face and I laugh, Juliet hates tickles.
I tickle her waist and she grabs my arm pulling me down into the bed.
"You told me you'd behave." She says and I purse my lip.
"Oops?"
"I am going to murder you tonight." She says and I stand up quickly but she pulls me back down by my waist and tickles me and I start laughing and kicking.
"Julie!" I say and she laughs and stops.
"I made you breakfast, that should make up for the tickles." I say and she hums.
"I'd rather something else for breakfast." She says and I block her mouth.
"Olive is in the room Juliet." I say and she smiles and I take my hand away from her mouth.
"I was really hoping for taste, guess I'll have to wait." She says and reaches over me getting the coffee and taking a sip.
"Yes you will." I smile and she puts the coffee down and goes to kiss me but i stop her.
"I hate coffee." I say and she moves my hand and grabs my face kissing me and I huff and her tongue slides into my mouth but I lean into it then lean back.
"Present child's present." I say and she looks over to olive.
"We have guest bedrooms you know." She says and I look at her and smirk and shake my head.
"You are so horny, keep it in your pants Juliet Levine." I say still smirking and roll out of the bed and she slaps my ass and I stick my tongue out at her and walk over to the closet looking for a outfit. I put on Juliet's white long sleeved turtle neck shirt and my blue jeans.
"I'm going to have no clothes left over you." She says and I roll my eyes.
"Your clothes are comfy." I say and she shakes her head and sits up and I walk over and kiss her cheek.
"I'm going to go the store and get some cameras. I'll be back soon." I say and she nods.
Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello! The Epiphany Colony
Brad Asher has been a private detective on the Epiphany Colony orbiting Mars for about a year before stumbling into a conspiracy that threatens the safety and stability of the colony. Note that the story here is the first draft and has a lot of ideas, characters, and plotlines that I ended up dropping in the final version that I released here currently available on Kindle Unlimited. The entire second half was restructured, as I ended up not being satisfied with some of the things that I introduced and felt like it had strayed too far from my initial vision of a space-based detective noir story.
