《Journey to the Old Era (Drisana's Mahabharat #1)》Chapter 22

Draupadi was looking at Drisana with a pleading expression. But Drisana gave it no mind as she continued eating fruits.
"Drisana, don't you think it's getting too much now? He has realised his mistake. He apologised and brought me gifts also. He even brought laddos for me saving from bhrata Bheem. He gives me more time now and I keep ignoring him. Please let's stop this." Draupadi said.
"No. First let him bring the moon for you." Drisana replied amused.
"How he'll do that? I said that in flow. Let's forget that." Draupadi requested. She signed at Devika to say something.
"No no no. You can't back out now. When we get something easily, we don't understand it's value. Let him work a little more harder, then he'll remember it forever." Drisana said.
"But Drisana, will it be right? How can he get moon for her? He'll have to do penance for that." Devika said trying to convince her.
"Toh karne dijiya. Jis prem mei tapasya na ho yoh prem kaisa. (Then let him do it. If there's no penance in love, then what love it is?)" Drisana said mischievously.
"But -"
"No but. It's his penance and yours too. I have full faith on Nakul anyways." Drisana said.
"From where bhrata Nakul came between?" Draupadi asked bewildered. Drisana said nothing, only smiled devilishly.
"Nakul, my favourite brother, I've a good news for you." Arjun said over enthusiastically.
Nakul narrowed his eyes at him. Nakul, Sahdev and Bheem were waiting as Yudhisthir called them at his meeting room. Bheem and Sahdev were looking at Arjun wide eyed too.
"What good news?" Nakul asked cautiously.
"I've purchased some new horses for you." Arjun replied.
Nakul, Sahdev and Bheem were looking at each other.
"You've purchased some horses?" Nakul asked. Arjun nodded smiling.
"For me?" Nakul again asked to confirm. Arjun again nodded smiling.
"Why?" Nakul asked with a frown.
"Can't I gift my favourite brother something? You've been so upset lately. So I thought to gift you to lighten your mood. And I also have an idea. Why don't you take Drisana with you to see the horses?" Arjun said, smiling too brightly for Nakul's liking.
"Arjun, are you alright?" Bheem asked, confused by his behaviour. The one who kept teasing Nakul at every opportunity was being so gracious to him suddenly.
"Of course, bhrata Bheem. What will happen to me?"Arjun said still smiling.
"I think you should get checked once." Sahdev said. No one was able to digest the fact that Arjun was gifting Nakul and giving him idea to spend time with Drisana too. Nakul understood something was fishy.
"Yeh jo makkhan laga rahe hain aap bhrata,
Kya raaj he jo chupa rahe hain, Jo mujhe nahi hain pata? (Why are you buttering me?)" Nakul asked smiling sweetly. Arjun laughed nervously.
"Nothing." Arjun said as Yudhisthir entered and all of them concentrated on the matter on hand.
The matter being treaty proposal with Dravida. Apparently Dussasan had lost the swayamvar of Kashi Rajkumari to Rajkumar Devajyot of Dravida and he attacked him when they were returning to Dravida. As the attack was conducted too close to Dravida territory, it was taken as a threat. No one was aware of Dussasan's plan of attack. On top of that Duryodhan suggested to attack Dravida after knowing about the insult his brother was handed by Devajyot. Pitamah was hell angry and after discussing, it was decided an apology and peace agreement would be the best course of action. Though Dravida accepted the apology, the peace agreement was denied, giving a clear indication that they saw Hastinapur as a threat.

On the other side, Drisana was outside the Palace, sitting at a small house. As she sat there chatting with a woman, a man entered and froze watching her there.
"Putra, you've arrived at the right time. I wanted you to meet putri Sana. Remember I told you about her." The woman said smiling at her son.
"Yes, Mata. I remember." The man replied. He remembered his mother telling him about some girl she met a few times and how she helped his mother when she almost fell while carrying water from well.
"Parnipat, bhrata." Drisana said with a smile.
"Why don't you seat and talk with her? I'll bring snacks for you two." The woman left saying so.
"You make relations too fast, don't you?" The man said with a blank face.
"Of course. Blended relations are a beautiful mix of diverse people who each serve an important role in our lives. Alone, you are strong, but together, you'll be stronger than ever." Drisana replied.
"Nice thought. So what role you want me to play?" The man asked.
"If you're trying to imply that I deliberately sought out your mother for some extended plan, you're wrong. I was only roaming around the town when I stumbled upon her." She said stiffening a little.
"Then why you lied to her about your name and identity, Yadavkanya?" The man asked sharply.
"I didn't lied. My mother used to call me Sana. After I met her, I felt - . And about identity, I didn't wanted the people of the town to know who I'm as I wanted to roam freely. That's why I left the guards and dasis at a distance too." Drisana said being upset. The man could clearly see that he had offended her with his assumptions. Moreover, there was no reason for her to deliberately seek out his family, was there? Before he could say anything Drisana got up and left saying,
"I'm sorry. I didn't knew you wouldn't like me being here. I won't bother you or your family anymore, Angraj."
As Drisana left, she knew Angraj Karna himself would seek her out now to apologise for his assumptions. Even though he would be cautious, he would grant her entry at his house. He hadn't been wrong in his assumption though. Drisana had indeed sought out his mother. It wasn't so tough to get the address of the leader of charioteer community who was apparently the father of a King. She just got the opportunity to befriend her by chance. Where Kunti was a woman of poised grace, Radha was jolly and unabashed. No wonder she adopted and embraced Karna so easily.
As for getting out of the Palace, she got permission to visit the town from Pitamah himself. Though he insisted on sending guards and dasis, an order from her had been enough to leave them a little distance away hidden from view. On Pitamah's question, she'd told she wanted to roam as a commoner. He hadn't been pleased with that, but relented after a little persuading.
As the meeting ended, Nakul was leaving for his pending works when Arjun called him for something urgent. Since then he had been circling around with random talks.
"Bhrata Arjun, if you don't have anything important to say, can I leave please?" He said being annoyed.
"I do have something important to say. Look anuj, we're brothers. We should always help each other. Like I helped you by giving idea to spend time with Drisana? You should also help me." Arjun said finally.

"What help?" Nakul asked carefully.
"Nothing. Just tell me something. Is there any way to bring moon on earth without penance?" Arjun asked.
"What?" Nakul asked confusingly.
"Okay. Listen I'll tell you but you've to promise you won't tell anyone else." Arjun said helplessly.
"Tell first. I'll decide after if I should tell anyone or not." Nakul said. Without any other option, Arjun started to tell him.
Nakul kept staring at him and after a while busted out laughing.
"Good. Very good. I'm not going to help you. You were enjoying a lot since we came back at Hastinapur. Now enjoy more." Nakul said controlling his laughter.
"Anuj please help your brother. If not you, then where I'll go. Please." Arjun pleaded. Who would have thought the proud warrior could plead!
"No. You were behind me till now. Now watch me." Nakul shaked his head and left Arjun pouting.
The next day, his brothers smirk and teasing told him Nakul had generously told everyone about his moon trouble.
"Arjun, what was the need to say moon? You should have said laddos. Then you could have given that easily." Bheem said.
"I already tried that." Arjun muttered.
"Did you say something?" Bheem asked.
"No. Bhrata." Arjun replied smiling sweetly.
"By the way bhrata Arjun, if you bring moon on earth, the balance of nature will be affected. I say fold your hands and apologise to bhabishree." Sahdev put his input.
"Nakul. Please give some idea now as you've already made fun of me." Arjun said after glaring at Sahdev.
"No. I'll not." Nakul said arrogantly.
"You won't?" Arjun asked.
"No."
"Sure?"
"Yes."
"Okay then I also won't help." Arjun said. That got Nakul's attention seeing Arjun's confidence.
"What help? I don't need your help." Nakul said wondering what possibly was going through his brothers head. The others were confused as well.
"You realise that Draupadi has one brother and I had to hit the eye of a fish." Arjun said smiling smugly. That's when it came to everyone.
"And Drisana has seven." Sahdev said with rounded eyes looking at Nakul.
"You're gone Nakul." Bheem said shaking his head. Nakul paled and started coughing. He had to help Arjun if he wanted to survive in future. Because no way Dravida brothers would hand over their one and only long lost sister so easily.
Draupadi looked at Arjun as he told her he had gotten the moon for her.
"Really?" Draupadi asked wide eyed.
"Yes, come with me." Arjun said and took her hand in his. He led her at the garden. After walking for sometime they came into a secluded place surrounded by tress. The place were decorated with flowers. Torches were alight. And in the middle was a bowl. They came near the bowl and Arjun signed her to look inside. As Draupadi looked inside, there was the moon, reflected in the water of the bowl.
"That's the less glorious moon for my moon." Arjun said. As Draupadi turned to look at him, he had a rose in hand.
"And that's the queen of flowers for the queen of my heart." He said smiling at her. Draupadi blushed as she took the rose.
"I have something else for you." Arjun said and taking her hand in his, he slipped a ring on her finger.
"Keep it close to you always as you keep my heart." Arjun whispered.
"Now close your eyes." Arjun said. Draupadi did without question.
"Now open." She saw Arjun's favourite bow in his hand. She had seen him practicing with it a lot of times.
"To be honest, whatever I said and did till now, that I learned from someone else. But now I want to tell you something from my heart. I know I've been ignorant and hurt you unknowingly. But that wasn't my intention. When you came into my life, I couldn't believe the most beautiful woman of the Aryavart is mine. I wanted to befriend you first. So, you wouldn't feel uncomfortable with me. I wanted to give you time so you don't feel pressurised to accept me without your heart's consent. Whenever you're around, I can't concentrate on anything else. So I started staying away. I never complimented you thinking it'd make you uneasy.
I know what Maharaj Drupad told you about me. How he wanted you to get married to me. At your swayamvar, I saw how quite and unhappy you were. It wasn't your choice when Maharaj Drupad gave your hand in mine. But I wanted it to be your choice to love me. Maybe I messed up in my attempt to not pressure you as all I ended up doing was hurting you. But trust me, you've made a small place in my heart the moment we met. And with each passing day, it became larger and larger. And now I want you beside me for every day. I've fallen for you Panchali." Arjun said. His voice heavy with emotions. Draupadi's tears fell from her eyes as she stared at him.
"For a Kshatriya, his weapon is his honour, the most prized thing in his life. Today I give you that. By giving you my weapon, I'm giving you my existence. The world knows Arjun for his bow and I'm giving you my identity. From this day on, It'll stay in your reservation. So that everyone knows that Arjun's strength, his honour, his most prized thing is his Panchali." Arjun finished. Draupadi was full on crying now. She threw herself at his arms conveying her emotions through the hug.
"I love you Arya. Not because I've to. But because I couldn't stop myself from loving you. Everyone see the warrior with bow, I see the man with compassion, love, loyalty, skills, art. Everyone praises you for your talent as a kshatriya. I praise you for your talent with Veena (a musical instrument) and poetry. Everyone knows the sharpness of your arrows, I know the softness of your heart. I was upset when my father counted my worth in how better a son-in-law he'd get. But you made your place in my heart and I couldn't have been any happier. I understood my father's desire to hand over his daughter to the best man with honour and skills. And I gave you my love by my own choice. I became your Panchali." Draupadi said smiling with love and respect reflecting in her eyes for him.
Arjun cupped her face in his hands and gave a kiss on her forehead as the moon became the witness of their love.
