《The Son of Artemis Book One》Chapter 12: A Prank and CTF

"Percy you know if I had a choice you wouldn't have ever had to leave your sisters to come here. Try making friends with the other demigods" Mom said to me, holding me tight.
"I have mom, me and Uncle A's kids get along well, but I don't know how that's going to go now. Annabeth and I are close, along with a few of Demeter's kids, and The head councilors of Hephaestus's and Aphrodite's cabins" I said
"I told you to stay away from her children"
"Well I was but Charles, the head of Hephaestus, is dating her, and she's nice and not like her sisters. She's also pretty skilled with a dagger. She even taught Annabeth a few things when they were younger." I explained
"She's fine but I have a feeling that Zoë hates her and wouldn't approve." Mom said, laughing because I think she knows who I'm talking about.
"Which makes me approve all the more"
"Well, Zoë isn't going to like that" mom paused and I wondered why she was, "If you want food I'll have to teleport you back" mom said and I nodded my head before I appeared in the pavilion. I got some brisket and a t-bone steak, though how the nymphs get this stuff or cook it so perfectly is unknown to me. I cut a piece off of my t-bone and scraped some of the brisket into the fire thanking mom. Dionysus was downcast probably because his horse friend wasn't there to keep him company. I sat down and ate, before heading off to bed, not wanting to talk to anyone.
The next day I woke up and went straight down to the arena and started cutting up dummies, like no tomorrow. By the time the other campers started coming down to the arena I probably went through half of the dummies. I picked up the broken pieces and set them off to the side where the other broken ones were before I left for the archery range. When I got there I saw my uncles kids, and asked how Chiron was doing.
"He's doing fine he just needs a days rest before he's back in action" Lee Fletcher said, he was their cabin head.
"Thanks for letting me know Lee. Now is anyone up for getting beat in an archery competition" I asked and they all gave me a you gotta be kidding me look
"How are you so good at archery, I mean you split ten arrows in a row yesterday, like it was nothing" Michael said, he was the cabins second in command.
"I may have forgot to mention your father blessed me, when mom adopted me, and I've been training since I was four"
"Dammmmnnn" some of them said, and I laughed.
"well if none of you are going to accept do you want to prank the Hermes cabin" I asked and they immediately nodded.
So we went to their cabin and began planning this huge prank before lunch came. You see I was, a not so regular to lunch guy, along with a few of Apollo's kids, which is good for this prank because there's kids from other cabins that are like this as well. The only exception is that everyone in the Hermes cabin has to go to lunch because of the earlier prank war. Which leaves their cabin only guarded by pranks if there is any.

I lead the group of myself, Will Solace, and a few more of his kids whose names I have yet to learn. We snuck into the Hermes cabin and started inverting the y-axis of the room. We bolted and glued things from the floor to the ceiling and removed the fan and lights and bolted them to the floor. We didn't mess with the wiring, but we did cap off the hot wires. After that we turned all of the wall art upside down and glued anything that was sitting on the windowsill to the top of the window. Surprisingly, we did all of this in an hour and even a few kids from other cabins came in to help. We all swore never to admit who did the prank before leaving to go our separate ways, not getting caught.
I went with the Apollo kids to the archery range and started beating them in archery comps again. We did that the rest of the day and I even gave them a few pointers on how to better their aim and consistency at high speeds, or a high rate of firing arrows.
When it came to dinner time I completely forgot about the prank and sat with the Apollo cabin because I was bored and it gets lonely without my sisters at mom's table. "Percy you aren't allowed to sit there" Dionysius said coming up to the table.
"I'm sure uncle A and my mom don't mind it's just lonely and boring without my sisters over there so I sat here" I countered and when a soft rumble of thunder went by Dionysus said, "it's fine for tonight but don't let me catch you doing it again"
The camp fire started shortly after dinner and a few of the Hermes kids went off to bed instead of joining us, they didn't sound anything and probably thought that whatever happened was funny, or they were the ones who slept on the floor so just didn't bother.
A few minutes after the campfire is when the screams happened and I ran outside much like the other cabins, when we got to the Hermes cabin and looked inside everyone, well camper wise started cracking up laughing because everything was on the ceiling except the lights and fan which were on the floor.
"This is not funny" Luke shouted to everyone.
"This has got to be the best prank ever pulled off in camp history what are you talking about it not being funny" two of his brothers countered, "and just pulling it on our cabin makes it all the better" they finished off before heading inside and climbing into two of the bolted up sleeping bags, somehow.
Chiron rolled up in his wheelchair, gave a short glare to me, which I gave back, and then proceeded to look into the room before turning and asking who did it. No one responded immediately and one of Annabeth's sisters who helped with the prank stepped up, I thought we were busted, but she had a plan like all of Athena's children.
"It could have been their father getting back at them for the earful he got from the other gods" She stated. The two brothers from earlier stuck their heads out of their respective sleeping bags, "Dad just pulled the best prank ever" they shouted before disappearing back into them.

Now I don't know if he's going to claim responsibility or not, especially after that statement, but Chiron accepted the theory and let it go before telling us all to go to bed.
The next morning was boring, but today I hung out with Annabeth to avoid raising suspicions of my work with Uncle A's kids. We were walking around after her class and we saw the new kid getting a tour from Chiron. I grabbed Annabeth and immediately went towards my mom's cabin.
"Percy, I know you dislike Chiron but you are going to have to get over it eventually" Annabeth said when we got there.
"I'm aware I just don't want to do so now. I'm still a bit pissed at him...from before" I said and she sighed knowing how my sisters are, and guessing I'm probably like them.
"Alright, but who are you going to be siding with for Capture the Flag"
"I don't know, I'll probably end up siding with you as my Mom doesn't approve of the Ares cabin." I said since it was an Athena v Ares CTF for leadership.
"You're not going to follow the plan are you" She asked
"nope, I'm just going to grab the flag and hand it off to someone before it heads over the boundary line"
We left after that and I stayed with the Athena cabin because I got a reputation of ignoring my classes and hanging with who I want, and if they have a problem with it they end up on their butts.
I heard that the new guy, that I saved was named Peter Johansson and he's 11. He also got the ceremony, but he caused one of the toilets plumbing to exploded. I knew then that he was Poseidon's kid, and thus by birth, my bastard half brother. Nobody here at camp knows that which I like, it makes camp life a lot easier.
Eventually the day for CTF came around and I had to be on Peter's side, because he was still unclaimed and in the Hermes cabin. When the game started I immediately took to the trees and was off to capture the enemy teams flag. I found it rather quickly, knocked out the lone guard, and took the flag heading to Peter's post via the trees. I made it back in time to see half the Ares cabin come out of the woods and stare him down.
"The flag is that way" Peter said pointing over to the flag. Bloody coward, I thought, just typical of a boy to betray his team.
"Oh we aren't here for that" Clarisse said and for once I had to agree with her for that.
Peter seemed to think for a little while, "but the rules are no maiming" he said
"Oh no. No dessert for a week" One of her brothers responded sarcastically. Their battle went off from there and the Ares kids, stupidly beat him into the water. I would have helped him, but I wanted to see what he will do so I sat down in the tree, keeping the enemy team flag safe with me.
If you are wondering why I grabbed a hold of the flag it's because their team doesn't have a chance to win by the numbers, and I don't want my entertainment stopped because we won. Back to the fight though, Peter was holding his own in the water and knocked out two of Clarisse's siblings. His movements were faster and stronger, but I had a feeling it wasn't because of his capabilities but because of a guiding hand that doesn't want to be embarrassed.
I watched as Clarisse's remaining siblings went down and she went into attack mode. She struck both of his arms and Peter dropped his shield and sword respectively from the electric shock. I figured I should jump down and stop this before Peter gets killed.
"Hey Clarisse, is this your flag" I asked holding it up.
She turned and looked at me before proclaiming that they have fallen into a trick. I saw Luke come over and he looked mad, "do you know how long we have been looking for that flag" he asked
"Not long enough considering I was up in that tree after the first minute, and watched Clarisse serve Peter" I countered. I heard a distant growl that sounded like a hell hound and dropped the flag before pulling my bow out and aiming in the direction of the hellhound.
"What the hell are you aiming at, moon boy" Clarisse said
"shh hellhound, about 150 meters out" I whispered
"But that's in camp" she said like I was wrong.
"I killed my first hellhound at four and a half, and have hunted packs of them plenty of times. I'm pretty sure I can accurately identify a hellhound" I whispered again because it was close.
Unannounced to me CTF ended and I was already off hunting a hellhound, with Clarisse, an invisible Annabeth, a few other campers and a stupid person named Peter.
"What are you doing" Peter practically shouted, I was about to turn and shoot him with my arrow but I saw the hell hound behind him so I motioned for him to turn around. He did so and fell on his butt screaming his head off. When the hell hound leaped, I fired my arrow killing it in the air, but this wasn't a hades hell hound it was one straight from the pit. It also ended up showering Peter in monster dust, and I think a child of Aphrodite would have acted better in that situation...even if it ruined their clothes.

Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
