《The Son of Artemis Book One》Chapter 13: A Quest Begins

"Will you quit your whining" Clarisse said highly annoyed, "geez even the Aphrodite kids, don't act that bad" she finished mumbling and I had a hard time not laughing.
Annabeth took her invisibility hat off and repeated the same thing before slapping him telling him he was alive. We began making our way back towards camp, and Peter was going on and on about his bravery, tonight and facing off against half the Ares cabin and winning the game for the team.
If you couldn't tell the other kids that were with us were preventing Annabeth, Clarisse, and I from killing him. Me because he ruined that little hunt, Clarisse because she could have killed him if I didn't intervene, and Annabeth because it was her plan that actually won.
We made it back without killing him, and Poseidon claimed him as his son. Of course he does this when, Peter is claiming he killed the hell hound, but I have a feeling the others knew it was a lie as they saw the others in the group that went with me stopping me from killing him.
I started throwing out a whole bunch of curse words in ancient greek. Some of which probably haven't been heard inside camp for millennia. "Perseus, stop cursing" Chiron said.
I told him to throw himself to the crows, and many of the campers gasped in shock, that I would talk like that to him. Even, the kids that were holding me back let go and backed away. "Perseus, you will not disgrace a camper's first monster kill" Chiron said
"He doesn't even have a first kill" I shouted and you could hear the seas crashing on the beach, "and you can throw yourself to the crows too, Poseidon. I know it was you guiding him in that fight against the Ares cabin, and I know you know he's lying" I shouted out to the seas. They abruptly stopped only to be replaced by clap of thunder.
The Ares cabin looked thankful despite me having actually beat them, earlier in the week."That's enough now all of you off to bed, and Perseus my office now" Chiron said
I walked off to his side, as I don't trust his rear end. Surprisingly Clarisse and Annabeth didn't head off to bed, but followed. Annabeth with her invisibility cap and Clarisse just being surprisingly stealthy.
I entered his office, and knew that Annabeth was in here as well, standing close to the door. "You are making a lot of enemies, Perseus" Chiron said
"Yeah well Poseidon can go to the crows for all I care. I know the truth, and if Poseidon or you have a problem with it then you can deal with my mom and sisters, when they catch word of you two spreading libel and slander against me" I said
"You are still going to have to get punished" Chiron said
"for what. Exposing the lies Peter already said. Exposing Poseidon for his meddling. Or cursing at you and Poseidon, and in my opinion rightfully so, since Lady Hestia didn't even stop me considering she saw and heard me doing it" I rebutted

"No dessert for a week and you are also on dish duty for that period of time" Chiron said, ignoring me, as always.
I flipped him the bird and left, leaving the door open so Annabeth could escape. Chiron wasn't so bad last year but he still hated me, just not in front of my sisters. I don't even know why he hates me. I know mom gave him instructions on where to place me classes wise, which he didn't listen to. And yeah sure me and my sisters lit the camp on fire last year, but we stayed put it out and helped fix all the damage. After that everything was done by him in escalation, yeah sure I could have went to my classes, but they were pointless to begin with.
I was heading back to my cabin, and I heard Annabeth talking to Clarisse about what happened. "Hey Prissy" Clarisse said
"What" I asked slightly annoyed, "I don't even want to be here, and yet I'm being punished for it"
"Yeah I can get that hanging with a group of kickass girls, who you call sisters, is preferable to this, but you had some serious guts. I respect that. You have a friend with Ares cabin" Clarisse said before heading off to her own cabin. Which is something serious for that cabin as they are more like a military unit than a cabin at a summer camp.
"What you did was stupid, but it worked. And you were right" Annabeth said
"Did that hurt your Athena like hubris" I asked only to hear a rumble of thunder, which we both laughed at.
"I think it hurt my mom's more than mine, but it was hard to admit. You could have went better about it though." She said with a slight chuckle.
"Yeah I could have, but I'm too direct for that. Anyways, I'm hitting the hay, I need some sleep" I said heading off to my own cabin which was next to hers.
I woke up and immediately headed to the dining pavilion to get breakfast. I saw that Peter moved over to Poseidon's table and was eating there all alone before Chiron came up to him and asked him to come with him. I stayed and ate at mom's table, not following, because why should I care, even though I know he's about to get a prophecy.
The day went on and Peter still hasn't returned by lunch, but now I'm being requested at the big house for whatever reason.
"Why have you called for me Chiron" I said annoyed
"Because you may have been mentioned in a prophecy. That is of the utmost urgency" Chiron said, and I saw a pale Peter on the couch so I guess he got the prophecy.
"Well if it is urgent then what are you waiting for" I asked
"Alright then" Chiron said as if I was the one being rude, " it goes
Son of Wilderness knows the trail
With Wisdom and Sea on his tail

You'll go west, and see the god who has turned
While Wilderness finds what is stolen and you see it safely returned
You shall be betrayed by one who calls you friend
And you shall fail to save what matters most in the end.
and that is the prophecy" Chiron finished.
I began to think it over, "alright I'll go" I said, "but only if Annabeth comes too" I added. I need someone there to keep my sanity, if I have to take Peter, and she's my best friend from Athena's cabin. Ok maybe my best friend period but c'est la vie.
"Alright. Hades is out in the west and I suggest you start with him, he already sent a fury that was asking where it is" Chiron said
"What is the it, that I'm suppose to return" Peter asked
"The master bolt" Chiron replied, while I thought over his words.
If the fury was asking where it is, she probably wasn't referring to the bolt. Hades has no need or want for the oversized firecracker. So, it's probably his helm that's missing. I guess asking Hades what he knows is our best lead, since my drama queen grampa is too busy arguing with Poseidon to be useful.
"So it's Peter, Annabeth, and myself, when do we go" I asked
Chiron nodded, but Peter didn't, "Wait I'm the one leading this quest I should be the one who decides who goes on it" He argued
"Well good luck finding another son of wilderness, because as far as I am aware I am the only son of wilderness" I said walking out the door.
I went straight to the arena and found Annabeth practicing with her dagger and I asked for a spar.
"But you are going to win" She said in her you should know this tone.
"I know, but it gives you the opportunity to learn more, and I can help you with you knife/dagger skills. You are also not that bad of an opponent. Most of the hunt is at or slightly above your level, it's only Phoebe, Zoë , and Mom that gives me any real challenges nowadays." I said, and she looked shocked.
"you fight with your mom" she asked.
"I've done so 25 times and lost them all. Zoë and me are about 50/50 right now for the year she has a slight lead though" I responded
She accepted and we started our spar. I won obviously, and although most things she done was near perfect, she still had slight rooms for improvement. She needed to learn that it is sometimes beneficial to switch the way you are holding your knife in mid battle, but it really depends on a number of factors that I don't care list. I took her through the steps, and gave her the same lessons that the hunters told me, when I was starting to understand the art of wielding my knifes.
"So you learned all of this from the hunters" Annabeth asked
"most of it I learned from mom, she was and still is overprotective of me. But the hunters helped me in refining the lessons into actual fighting skills" I answered.
"well you're lucky you get to live with your mom"
"Well at least your mortal family isn't dead, and I know you don't like them, but you still have them. I have nothing to go back to except the hunt. My mother was killed by a cyclops before I was even a two days old" I nearly shouted at her. She knows how I feel about my mother, and the lack of having her.
"I'm sorry Percy, I may have pushed too far. It's just that I wonder what my life would be like if my mother didn't give me to him. He never even wanted me in the first place and tried to get her to take me back" she said
"You'll probably be smarter than you are now, other than that I don't really have any answers" I said light heartedly, and we laughed. I considered telling her who my father is, but I have a feeling it's just not time for that yet.
We heard the dinner horn go off, and I asked if she wanted to race
"3 2 go" She said taking off at three, not even answering my question.
When we finished the race, which was a tie, Chiron was there waiting with Peter at the entrance. "There you are" Chiron said, "where have you been"
"The Arena, the only other place I'll be if not here, in mom's cabin, or at the archery range schooling my uncle's kids" I responded, because it's obvious he didn't look.
"Well, Peter has agreed to your terms on who's going on the quest, you should get a move on and go now" Chiron said knowing the urgency of the matter
"It will be wiser to leave tomorrow morning, it's late and dark out, and a bunch of kids alone, will only raise mortal suspicions. Plus Annabeth and I are hungry from training" I countered and Annabeth agreed with me. Peter also agreed at the mention of eating first. Chiron nodded and went off as Annabeth and I made our way to our tables to eat.
The next morning after breakfast, and waiting an hour for Peter to pack, Chiron sent us off with Argus. While Luke gave Peter a pair of winged shoes. Annabeth and I looked at each other and demand that they be handed over. "Why Luke gave them to me"
"Well unless you want Zeus to kill you for entering his domain, I recommend you hand them over to someone who won't get killed for entering his domain" Annabeth said with her hand out. He looked back at Chiron who nodded agreeing with Annabeth before calling him over after he handed over the shoes which were stuffed in her bag.
I was watching him and I saw Chiron give Peter a pen, which he threw and then pulled out of his pocket a minute later. He thanked Chiron before, coming over to get this quest on the road finally.

A Friendly Voidling
When a Creature of the Void fails to find friendship among her own kind, she instead sets her sights upon another, human-filled world. Unfortunately, humans turn out to be rather small and squishy things, resulting in a mostly accidental trail of death, destruction and madness as she embarks on her journey to finally make some friends. This is a 25k word inane short story, and makes no attempt at being serious or realistic. It's my first attempt at trying a more comedic writing style. No relation to my other stories, aside from a brief cameo. Cover bodged together with Charat Genesis. Not quite the design I had in mind, but reasonably close. Doesn't contain explicit smut, but does contain references to stuff happening off-screen. May contain traces of gore. Also eels, in varying states of distress. Posted here and scribblehub.
