《The Son of Artemis Book One》Chapter 20: Vegas

Annabeth collected her bag that was where the start of the ride is, and I forgot that Peter didn't want anything at the store so he didn't need to collect anything. After that we left the waterpark and headed back to the diner.
Low and behold Ares was waiting outside, when we got back. "Give me the shield and you get the ride, supplies and the info, I agreed to" Ares said, clearly annoyed that we survived.
Peter handed over the shield and Ares threw him a bag. Peter seemed to grow excited seeing what was in there so my guess is junk food. "There's your ride and all I can say about your mother is that she still lives Peter. She was taken not killed" Ares said
"I could have told him that" I responded and Peter seemed to grow furious again
"Why didn't you tell me" He demanded
"You never asked me" I replied nonchalantly. Peter didn't respond because it's true he never did ask.
"Anyways if you want to catch your ride I would get on it now as the drivers are finishing up paying" Ares said getting on his Harley and leaving. I snarled as for two reason the first being that I'm pretty sure I saw the helm of darkness tied to the front of his Harley, and the second because the transport he arrange was an inhumane animal transport truck, despite humane being written on the side.
When I got in there I was just about ready to steal the van, and release the animals into the wild. "milord is that really you, we've only heard rumors of your existence" a sickly looking antelope asked.
"Yes and before you ask I'm adopted" I responded to the Antelope taking the meat from in front of him and giving it to the lion while taking the vegetation from the lion and giving it to the Antelope. I began doing the same for the Zebra and giving him some of the vegetation that was set aside. "Thank you, milord" all three of them replied, and Peter looked freaked out. It was the first time the zebra spoke and I guess you could classify it as a horse.
"Why did that zebra just say thank you milord" Peter asked
"I got this," I said before going on to explain that Poseidon is the lord of horses, and by my best scientific guess a zebra is classified as a horse by the gods. Annabeth supported me in that theory.
Peter somehow still didn't get it and I asked for the zebra to try to explain it to him while I started a conversation with the lion. "They don't treat you three well" I asked

"That's correct my lord" the lion started, "in fact that was the first meat I had in about a week" he finished up.
"I'm taking it that it was the first vegetation that they had in the same time" I asked
"Yes milord" came the antelopes response
"can you three do me a favor and stop calling me lord and all. And if you feel obligated to call me by any form of title can you use boss, it's what I got my mom's wolves use after all." I asked
The two looked conflicted by it and Annabeth was giving me a look as if she is planning something. "Nah milord is the only thing that seems right" the lion said, and I felt sad for him, most lions even the ones that I've seen in zoos are incredibly prideful and would agree to my request.
"Ok," I sighed, "but I'm still going to free you three" I said and it was at this point that Peter started paying attention
"Are you crazy that's a lion" Peter exclaimed
"I'm well aware of what he is, and he won't hurt us right" I asked
The lion said yes but I'm pretty sure to the Peter and Annabeth it sounded like a roar.
"we should catch some shut eye" I stated and Peter almost immediately went to sleep. "He said he wouldn't hurt us by the way" I told Annabeth.
"Ok, but you know that we are not going to be near their natural habitat" Annabeth stated
"I'm aware, I'm planning on asking my mom to guide them to a place where they can live and be safe." I said, The lion, antelope, and zebra all perked up on the mention of her, but I told them they aren't going to meet her yet, and that they may not physically meet her.
I woke up to the early morning sun shining through some of the ventilation. I was beaten however, by Annabeth, who was eating Oreos, "Where did you get those" I asked
"the bag Ares gave us"
"ok, have you come up with a plan yet" I asked because I'm pretty sure she has been formulating one.
"I think it might work but it's risky" She said before explaining her plan to me.
By the end of her explanation I noticed that shadows were appearing and disappearing from the ventilation and that we have been stopping and going. So, I'm assuming we were entering a city, though I don't know which one. "we might be coming to a stop soon" I whispered. Annabeth nodded in agreement and we let Peter sleep until we came to a final stop.

Which only took a few minutes, as I heard the engine turn off. I began kicking Peter to get him to wake up and he begrudgingly did so, "Hide" I whisper shouted as I dove back to be behind some of the food. I have no clue where Peter hid, but I knew Annabeth was making an escape, so she could help us and the animals escape.
A fat guy, with a sizable beer gut, opened the door and immediately pinched his nose, "Man, I wish I hauled appliances" he said. I wanted to punch him, but I had to agree with his wish, because at least then he wouldn't be abusing animals. "You hot big boy" he asked the lion
"No I'm thirsty you idiot" the lion replied sarcastically, I like this lion. The fat guy threw water from a bucket on the lion, and he let out a roar, so whatever he was saying my mom didn't want me to hear.
"Yeah yeah whatever" the man said in response to whatever the lion said. "You know stripes we're almost at your stop" The man said, "A magic show they gonna be cutting you in half"
"PLEASE MY LORDS FREE ME NOW I'LL DO ANYTHING" The zebra shouted in a panic and began rearing.
All of the sudden there was a banging on the side of the trailer that I am pretty sure was Annabeth, "What do you want Eddie" Our guy shouted
"what Maurice" Eddie shouted back
"what's with the banging" Maurice said stepping out of the trailer. I don't know what Eddie responded with but Maurice started cursing and yelling at him.
Annabeth appeared back in the truck, "we need to free them now" I said
"but we aren't in LA yet" Peter complained, now how he knows that I don't understand
"we can walk the rest of the way or hitch hike, I don't care but this is not legal transportation" I said to him opening the Antelope's cage, while Annabeth opened the Zebra's.
Peter stood in front of the lion's cage defiantly and was saying we aren't releasing the lion. "He won't harm us dam it and he's going to run into the wilderness were he can find a home" I said shoving him out of the way and opening the lion's cage.
The lion decided to have a little fun with Peter and snarled at him before jumping out of the truck. I heard Eddie telling Maurice he was an idiot for opening the lion's cage, while Maurice denied the allegation. Following that the Antelope and Zebra hopped out and all three started running in different directions, presumably out of the city. "Someone is sabotaging us" I hear Maurice shout.
We quickly ran out of the truck and were then being chased by the two truck drivers, and Eddie, looked like a slightly more fit version of Maurice. Annabeth was guiding us, and we ended up at a dead end in front of some hotel casino place and I was becoming suspicious of it immediately. Something didn't feel right, it didn't feel like a normal hotel and casino. I took a quick look around and saw some games that were more targeted towards children and that seemed off, casinos are 21+ why have games for children.
A man in a well tailored suit came up "You kids look tired why don't you sit down and rest a while" He stated. Annabeth and Peter immediately agreed and I agreed rather reluctantly after them.
We were sitting in the lobby for a couple of minutes, and Peter and Annabeth were drinking some water the man gave us, while I just sat there thinking and studying the place. A few minutes later a bellhop by my best guess came up to us and handed us keys for the hotel rooms, "But we don't have rooms reserved nor did we ask for any" I stated
"No, no" The bellhop said, "your bill is taken care of" I began suspecting a god has something to do with this, "Just head to the top floor your room number is 5225. If you need anything just call the front desk. Here are your hotel cash cards, they work on all hotel restaurants and games" He finished giving us a green credit card with a lotus on it that said lotus hotel and casino.
"How much is on here" Peter asked, I have a feeling he is going to be gambling.
"What do you mean" The bellhop said
"Like when does it run out of cash" Peter said, and the bellhop laughed and said something about Peter being funny, before telling us to enjoy our stay.
"We should head up to our room" Annabeth said dragging us to the elevator. I have a feeling she is tired and so is Peter.
When we got up there and entered the room it was huge, and I became more suspicious of the place. There's no way our room can have this much space with the proximity of the other room doors. There were three separate bedrooms, and i'm pretty sure each had their own bathroom, then there was a separate living room and kitchen area, and an indoor hot tube. I beginning to feel that city regulators have never inspected this building and if they did they are probably being paid off.
I heard a few comments from Peter, but I went off to bed to sleep, pondering my suspicions.
