《The Son of Artemis Book 2》Chapter 12: A Strait of Death

I thankfully woke up to a quiet ship...well minus Annabeth, whom was waking me. After she started yelling at me to get up, I responded with, "I'm up, I'm up, geez Beth are you trying to make me go deaf".
Yeah as you can imagine she didn't take that so well and slapped me, "well you should have gotten up the first time I told you" she huffed and walked away.
I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes, before leaving which ever room I was sleeping and headed above deck to see what the plan for crossing the strait will be. I walked up to see Clarisse and Annabeth, discussing how to best cross, as too close to either side, is practically choosing death.
"I'm saying we should split them right down the middle, be equal distance away from both of them" Clarisse said, and oh yea it looks like we'll be fending off against Scylla.
"Clarisse that's too obvious, Scylla has a longer reach over the strait, we should favor Charybdis is localized, all we need to do is go where our engines overpower the current she produces" Annabeth argued, and Clarisse took notice of me, just now so asked what I thought, as I was the 'hunter' and have the most experience with monsters.
"Well, two monsters that haven't been killed before, nor are any of their weaknesses known. Yet, both are famous for the demise of many sailors" I said, leaving a pause to see if either would interrupt.
"Wait so your mom, and her hunt have never hunted them before" Annabeth asked, slightly in shock
"No they haven't as even though yes, they would be capable, and probably could. Would it really be hunting as, one, they don't ever move, two, for Charybdis it would be more a kin to fishing, and three, they don't really bother mortals so the gods *cough* Zeus*cough* doesn't really think it's necessary to have them killed, and possibly loose at wherever they reform" I explained

"well which would we stand a better chance of survival against" Clarisse asked, and well Annabeth isn't going to like my answer, as it is against her plan.
"We would have a higher chance of survival against Scylla, but the skeletal crew will have to be cannon fodder, and hopefully the ship will survive her attacks, but..." I trailed off
"But what Percy" Annabeth questioned, probably thinking that her plan is better this time
"but there's a small chance we will have to use the life boats to escape if the ship can't with stand her attacks" I said, or something else goes wrong, I added in thought. As the luck of a demigod, is either non-existent or bad luck.
By the time Clarisse was finalizing our course to be practically straight down the middle of the strait, Peter was waking up, and the strait was coming into view. "ugghhhh what happened" Peter asked groggily sitting up
"You annoyed me, and thankfully you living isn't required for you on this quest" I said with a wicked grin, that was only meant to scare him, but he might have pissed his pants. I so wish I had a camera to either record or photograph that, as he most certainly will deny it.
Peter after, jumping off the ship and using his powers to get back on again, with his clothes, unsurprisingly dry, seemed to take notice of where we are. "is that" he asked, making a face similar to the one he just made when he pissed himself.
"The strait of Charybdis and Scylla, yes yes it is" Clarisse, Annabeth and I replied all at once, which freaked us out a little, but we were able to hold our composure because it freaked out Peter more, and well by composure, I mean Clarisse and I bursted out laughing, while Annabeth kept it in, but you could tell she was trying very hard not to loose it.

When Clarisse and I finally settled down from our laughter, Tyson burst out from below deck which got Clarisse and I to look at him confused. "Do we have any coolant" he asked, with a nervous look
"What happened" Clarisse stated annoyed
"one of the coolant pipes ruptured, I was able to patch it but we lost practically all of the engine coolant and it's starting to over heat" Tyson explained quickly
Annabeth and I began to think, as Clarisse began to yell at her father, not caring that he is a god or anything, but because she was mad that the ship wasn't only breaking down but also wasn't suited for deep waters.
"Could we use sea water" Annabeth asked
"yes, but it's to warm out here already, so it will only provide us an extra couple of seconds at best, and we won't be able to cool it fast enough to effectively keep the engine cool" I said, and well it's better than running without any.
"clarisse, the sea water will be able to provide us with an extra few seconds but we need to start filling the reservoir before it becomes pointless" Annabeth shouted, only to make sure the daughter of Ares could hear her.
"Fine just get it done now" Clarisse responded, and Tyson, Annabeth, myself, and about half the crew started running buckets of water down to fill the reservoir. Peter, well, I have no clue what he was doing, but if he was helping we could have had the reservoir filled in seconds.
After about five trips to fill the reservoir it became too hot for Annabeth, and the following trip was too hot for the rest of the crew. Three trips after that, I told Tyson he'll have to do with what we got and to do his best to keep the engine running, as we finally approached the strait, and I was needed on deck. Assuming we were going to survive our engine problems.
As we approached I saw why so many have lost their lives trying to get across this strait, as no capital ship would be able to come through here. You know the width of the strait is said to span an arrow's range. Well, whoever said that must have horribly sucked at archery, or was using an arrow, the width of an old tree and the density of whatever is the most dense known metal, which they wouldn't of had access to anyway. Like seriously, I can easily shoot like ten times this distance, and any new hunter can easily shoot twice this, albeit not with perfect precision to get a bullseye every time, but they can still get an arrow to go twice this distance and accurately hit a standard target.

The book of forever
An experimental diary of sorts recounting my life and experiences, written as a slightly whimsical scifi story about setting off from the past to unknown lands, rebuilding from nothing and finding myself again. The first section of the book contains matched chapters, a chapter for a interlude, both happening at the same time roughly The second section of the book contains more one off stories as we follow one of the travelers explore their heart as well as a unknown land, growing in the process. All of the text here was written in 10 syllable chunks, this reads like a epic of sorts, just with more philosophical focus and POV jumps. Hope you enjoy! >Updates may be sporadic as I only write when I have something about myself I want to share The chapters can all be read individually, although there may be some crossovers between them they work as single poems. You start at whatever chapter you want since these are a collection of roughly connected poems (although you'll notice tie ins and references to eachother)
