I sat at the table, bored out of my mind.
"Y/N!?!??" My mom asked scaring me out of my daydream. "Get up and vacuum the hallway."
"I already vacuumed the hallway, four times."
"Well, do it a fifth. Get up, let's go." She said clapping her hands.
Ever since my dad died, my mom hasn't thought about dating until she met the and I quote "man of her dreams" we have yet to meet. He's the person we've been preparing for. Mom wants everything to be perfect.
I got up and walked over to vacuum when my phone went off. I picked it up and saw that Jack texted me.

Hey. We need to talk.
I set down the vacuum and texted him back.
Not now. Helping clean for guests.
I set my phone down and started vacuuming. My phone buzzed again but I ignored it and I'd text him back when I was done. Jack and I have been dating for about 2 months now. We really haven't told anyone yet so we only get to spend time together at school. He just got back from filming IT so we'll be able to spend more time together!
"You know you need to move the vacuum in order for it to work, right?" My brother asked as I suddenly remembered I'd been daydreaming for the past two minutes.
"Yeah, you're probably rubbing off on me."
"Shut up." He said rolling his eyes and walking away.
My older brother, Noah, is 17 while I'm 15. He's really annoying at times but I suppose I still love him, maybe.
The door bell rang as everyone stopped what they were doing immediately.
"Umm, mom.?" Noah asked.
"NOBODY PANIC!!!!!!" She yelled already panicking running in the opposite direction of the door.

"Well, I guess I'll get it." I said walking toward the door. I opened it to greet the guests but instead my jaw dropped by who walked in the door.
"J-Jack? What are you doing here?" I asked shocked.
"Gavin!" My mom said walking towards him to give him a hug. "Y/n you remember Jack from grade school?"
"Yep. Sure do." I said fake smiling at him.
"Why don't you give Jack a tour." My mom asked.
"Yeah, y/n. Why not?" Jack asked sarcastically.
"Mhmm." I said grabbing Jack's wrist and pulling him down the hallway and into my room.
Jack closed the door behind him.
"Okay. You're dad is dating my mom?!" I asked still shocked.
"I just found out this morning." He said obviously just as shocked as I was. "My dad must've met your mom while I was filming."
"Oh. That kinda makes more sense."
"Yeah. Do you think they'll actually get married?" He asked.
"I don't know but all I know is that I am not going to be your step sister and your girlfriend."
"Sooo, whats the plan?"
"The plan is we pretend that we only know each other from school and that's it."
"JACK, Y/N, dinner time." My mom yelled.
"HOLD ON!" I yelled back.
"I missed you a lot." He said leaning in for a kiss. Our lips met softly as Jack pushed me up against the wall. We pulled away panting. "Wow, I forgot how much you take my breath away."
"Jack Dylan Grazer, you are the cheesiest person I've ever met." I said smiling at him.
We heard footsteps.
"Crap, what do we do?" He asked starting to panic.
"Pretend like I'm giving you a tour of my room." I said. He nodded in agreement.

The door swung open with Noah standing behind it. "He- what are you guys doing?"
I felt Jack grab the back of my shirt. Um, I was giving Jack here a tour. Isn't that right Jack.?" I asked him subtly stomping on his foot.
"Mhmm, yeah," he said wincing in pain moving his hand.
"Why are you guys panting?" He asked suspiciously.
"No reason. It's not like we were making out or anything." Jack said nervous laughing. I elbowed him in the stomach.
"Weirdos. Anyways, mom wants you guys downstairs." He said.
"Okay. We'll be down in a minute." I said waiting for him to leave.
Noah left closing the door behind him.
"What was that?" I asked.
Jack just smiled back.
"Jack. I'm serious. We have to pretend like we aren't together."
"Why?"
"Because I may or may not have told my mom that, umm, we're dating."
"Um, what?!" He asked.
"I haven't told anyone." I replied.
"Um, I kinda haven't told my dad either." He said.
I laughed at us both lying. "You could've told me. I would've understood." I said smiling.
"JACK, Y/N, DINNER NOW!!!" My mom screamed at us from the kitchen.
"Welp, I guess it's time to pretend like we don't know each other." I said laughing.
