《Living With My Bully》Ch.10 I Can Finally Tell Her
Advertisement
"You can work on this assignment with a partner after school...or not, whatever you think is best for yourself." The history substitute announced, sitting back down at the teachers desk and going on his phone. This is the only time I actually want our history teacher back, this guy has done nothing but go on his phone! Kayla nudges me and when I look over, she's grinning. The bell rings and Kayla and I begin to put our things away in our book bags.
"So, who's house?" She asks, zipping her book bag shut. "Wait, what?" I say, looking over at her. "Well, we're getting together for this assignment right?" She asks, raising an eyebrow. I nod; we always work together on assignments like these. "Also, I haven't seen where you live now and you haven't told me where either. I'm getting suspicious to be honest," Kayla adds.
Oh boy, now what do I say? Alright Iris, let's come up with an excuse. "Uh, the house is really..messy! Yeah, that's it! They wouldn't want me to bring someone to the house unexpectedly!" I exclaim quickly, swinging my book bag over my shoulder. Before Kayla could reply, I rush out of the room with a quick, "We'll meet up at the park for the assignment!"
When I'm far away, I sigh. I hate lying to Kayla, it feels awful to not tell her the truth. We've always been honest with each other.
Up ahead I see Oliver swarmed by squealing girls. I grab the hoodie of my sweatshirt, throw it over my head and make my way over to them. Oliver is winking and flirting at the girls, I can't help but gag at the sight. How do girls enjoy this? The girls have him swarmed really well, you'd think they were like secret service making sure no one got near the president. There's no way to get through to him. I groan which is not heard over the sound of the girls' squealing.
Y'know what? Screw it! For Narniaaa!!!! I push some girls out of the way and get a hold of Oliver's arm to drag him away. As much as I pull on his arm, he wouldn't budge. "Someone's eager," I hear Oliver tease. I remember Oliver doesn't know it's me. Looking back at him, our eyes meet. His smirk fades and he looks serious as he let me drag him away from the girls.
We hear the girls running after us and we pick up our pace. "Tell your fan club to back off!" I shout at him, swerving around other students in the halls. "Looks like someones jealous that they can't have me to themselves." He teased again, winking at me. "Ugh," I groan and continue running past confused and terrified students. We must sound like a stampede of buffaloes from down the hall. I could be in fourth period as of now but no, I decided to talk to Oliver.
Oliver nudges me and whispers to make a sharp left turn into the open janitors closer, I nod in agreement. Simultaneously, we quickly make a sharp left turn into the dirty closet which is ironic since it's full of cleaning supplies. Oliver closes the door behind us just in time before the girls could see where we went. They seemed to have continued down the hallway.
I pull my hoodie off and look into the janitors closet- oh boy... "Uh...." Oliver turns to see what I'm looking at, apparently we didn't know the janitor was in here. "Can we borrow this room for a few minutes?" Oliver asks him. "We just need to talk about something!" I add quickly before the janitor thinks we're doing anything else. Oliver chuckles, wrapping an arm around my waist. "Stop." I hiss, pulling his arm off of me.

The janitor looks between the two of us, ready to decline when Oliver whispers something in his ear. I couldn't even figure out the look on the janitor's face before he fled the room. "What did you tell him?" I ask, looking at Oliver. "Don't worry about it." He chuckles, shaking his head. I raise an eyebrow but ignore it. "I thought this closet was much bigger..." I mutter, also realizing that Oliver and I didn't have much space to back away from each other. Oliver shrugs, "Don't you have something to tell me."
"Right," I sigh, "So, no one can know we live together?" I ask him. "Um, no. Why? Did you tell anyone?" Oliver asks and cocks an eyebrow. "No, but I would like to." I hint at my problem. "And who exactly do you want to tell?" Oliver asks, crossing his arms, leaning against the door. "Kayla.." I mumble.
Oliver stares at me. What is he doing? This is getting kinda weird.. He chuckles suddenly. "I get it now, you feel bad that you're lying to her. Believe me, lying is normal." Oliver tells me. "Not with Kayla and me!" I exclaim, "We've been friends since second grade, I've always told her everything and she's told me everything too."
Oliver sighs. "You're just going to have to deal with it." Oliver leans back on the door. "Deal with it?" I repeat. I was kinda expecting that.. "Look I know you and Kayla are close, but you'll get over it soon." He says as if he knew how I felt about this. I hear a few late students in the halls run to class and I sigh. "Are you ever going to tell anyone?" I ask him, hoping that he might say yes. Please, please say yes.
"Sorry but no, I can't let people know we live together. Do you know how they'd react? Me. Oliver Sullivan, living with you, Iris Mitchell, the nerd of the school? It's probably for the best that they don't know." Oliver explains. Translation: Oliver only cares about his reputation with the students, why should he care about some girl who started living with him because she had no where else to go? That's what that sounded like.
I look down at the floor, feeling my eyes begin to water and sting. "R-right...I gotta go to class," I adjust my book bag on my shoulder, "Don't wait for me after school either." I add before hurrying out of the closet and past the spooked janitor, to my next class.
•••••••••••••Oliver's POV•••••••••••••
"Well shit.." I mutter, scratching the back of my head. Nice going, you made her upset...again. I sigh and peek my head out of the janitor's closet. He whimpers and backs up into the corner of the walls of the hallway. I walk past him and to my next class. It's quite surprising that I'm even going to class...I normally don't.
Walking into the class, everyone avoids eye contact with me, except Terrence. He's actually a cool guy when you get to know him, I also wouldn't be surprised if he likes Iris, especially after what he did for her on Valentine's Day.
....
Iris. Looks like I'm not keeping my promise, I should try harder.
************************************
"Where is she?" I mutter to myself. I've been sitting in the car waiting for Iris to exit the school. "I swear if she got detention again, I'm not going back in there for her." Its been half an hour already.

"Don't wait for me after school either."
I didn't think she really meant it. I pull my phone out of my pocket and look for her contact 'The Greatest Person in the Universe'. I smile, remembering the time we exchanged numbers. Getting back on task, I press call.
•••••••••••••••Iris' POV•••••••••••••••
Kayla and I are almost done with the history assignment. We've been at the park for half an hour already. I'm surprised we even got this much work done.
"I don't understand why we have to learn history, they're all dead anyway, I don't see the point." I argue with Kayla who just laughs. "I had no idea you hated history this much." She says, chuckling. "I think-"
I'm cut off by the sound of my phones ringtone, the Flash theme song. Kayla snickers at my ringtone but I'm confused. The only person that would be calling me is Kayla but she's right here next to me. Kayla must've noticed my confused face, "What's wrong? Aren't you going to answer?" She raises an eyebrow. Then I realize. Oliver.
Kayla reaches for my phone before I could grab it. "Who's 'The Hottest Person in the World'?" She gasps, "Do you have a crush and didn't tell me?" My eyes widen as I make a disgusted face. "Are you kidding? We both know I don't like anyone!" I exclaim. Kayla eyes me suspiciously.
Then she picks up and puts the phone to her ear. "Hello, who is this?" She asks. "No!" I shout, trying to get the phone away from here. She jumps out of reach and runs off, I run after her, hoping Oliver doesn't say anything.
••••••••••••Oliver's POV•••••••••••••
I smiled when she picked up. "Hello, who is this?" A familiar voice asked, but it wasn't Iris. Kayla? Why does she have Iris' phone? I clear my throat. "Sorry, wrong number." I reply in the deepest voice I could, quickly hanging up after. Where the hell is she? I begin driving back to my house.
•••••••••••••••Iris' POV•••••••••••••••••
"Alright, who is he?" Kayla interrogates me. "I don't know what you're talking about." I lie, smiling innocently. Kayla cocks an eyebrow and crosses her arms. "Who. Is. He?" She repeats, slowly. "Can I get my phone back first?" I plead. Kayla hesitates, thinking, before tossing me my phone.
"He's just some guy I know who named his own contact, I swear." I explain. Technically I wasn't lying, Oliver and I don't really consider each other friends...so he's really just an acquaintance. Kayla studies my facial expression. Am I really that easy to read? Oliver did it before too.
"I know you wouldn't lie to me, I believe you." Kayla says, smiling. "Now come on, we gotta finish this assignment." She adds before walking back to our book bags and homework. I sigh softly. I'm the worst....
***********************************
After declining a ride from Kayla multiple times, I took the bus to the nearest stop near the Sullivan'a house. I unlock the door using the key Ms.Sullivan gave me a few days after I first moved in with them, then close the door behind me. "Hey, I'm here." I call out. I knew that Ms.Sullivan was working late today and Ruby was at ballet practice, but Oliver was here already. Although I didn't really want to see him.
Footsteps rush downstairs, towards me. "Where have you been?! I called you and then Kayla picked up, I didn't know you were with Kayla! Why didn't you tell me?!" Oliver interrogates, sounding like a worried parent. "I didn't have time to tell you.." I mumble loud enough for him to hear, then walk past him up the stairs. Oliver follows me.
"Did you tell her though?" Oliver asks. I sigh and turn around to face him. "No, no I did not. I would like to, but I didn't because of you." I spat and turn around again to walk into my room. I didn't mean to sound so mad, I guess I was fed up with Oliver. As I'm closing the door behind me, Oliver puts his hand in between to stop me. I don't open the door anymore though, I only faceplant on my bed.
I hear the door open and close. It's silent. After a few seconds, Oliver sighs softly and speaks. "Look I understand how you feel," Oliver scratches the nape of his neck, "..so, I'm allowing you to tell Kayla who you're living with." Oliver says. I perk up at this and lift my head to look at Oliver. "You really mean it?" I ask, eyes full of hope. He nods.
I jump up from the bed and towards Oliver, wrapping both arms around him and concealing him in a hug. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I shout, smiling wide. I can feel Oliver tense up but he quickly relaxes. "You can let go in five...four...three...two... one.." Oliver counts down causing me to let go and smile up at him.
"When do I tell her? Now? Later? Tomorrow?" I ask, excited. "Whenever is fine, but I rather not have her over the house often. There are already three girls here, I don't need one more." Oliver warns me. "No promises." I say, smirking. Oliver chuckles and walks out the room, closing the door behind him. Maybe he isn't that bad after all...
••••••••••••••Oliver's POV•••••••••••••••
She lets go of me as soon as I reach one, I don't feel the warmth of her against me anymore. I fight the urge to frown and smile instead. She looks so happy...it's actually freaking me out. How can she be this happy? Even after all she's been through, what I've put her through, she still smiles wide. She's still positive about everything, it's what makes her special. I wish I was more like her, I have plenty of secrets and problems, but no one to talk to. Maybe it's possible that Iris would listen to me?
"When do I tell her? Now? Later? Tomorrow?" She asks, grinning. "Whenever is fine, but I rather not have her over the house often. There are already three girls here, I don't need another one." I warn her, but really I don't care. She deserves to be happy. "No promises." She says, smirking. She's learned from the best, me. I chuckle, leaving the room and closing the door behind me.
I walk into my room and shut the door behind me. My smile fades as I lean against the door, my eyes wide as I run a hand through my hair. What the hell was I just thinking?

Legacy: A wolf's tale
Follow Akascha as she goes from a beast of burden to a lovely (well more like a slightly belligerent) young woman! Note. This is a shory story (about 25.000 words) I wrote a while back in high school. Therefore, the range and depth of the story might be a bit lacking, but I wanted to share it with you anyway now that I discovered RR. Although I would love comments or constructive criticisme (as one can always learn), be aware that I have - at this point in time - no plans of rewriting this story. Thank you and I hope you enjoy! Oh and before I forget! The first chapter is rather short, but the rest of the chapters will make up for it.

Lear County Outlook
Based on true events in my life. Think of these stories as H P Lovecraft meets Rob Zombie. Each story has pieces, confessions, from the rural decay of Appalachia wrapped in horror and madness. All are set in the fictional county of Lear, which is a dark mirror held up to surface, idealized countryside. Blood and familial ties bind deep in a hopeless and rotted south. Tales are whispered of Hill Witches and Demons. Shunned communities molder. All these truths are hidden in the stories of deceit and lies. The first arc revolves around theft and exploitation at one of the last factories of Lear County. Abuse of power draws all down the path of madness.
