《Distraction》Milkshakes.

Twenty minutes before closing time Steve and Bucky enter the diner and you can't help but smile.
'Well don't you two look cute, is this your first date?' You tease as you walk over to them.
Steve frowns at you and Bucky glares, making you laugh a little 'Come on' You give them a nudge before leading them to one of the little booths, they both sit down and you walk away, returning shortly after with two milkshakes, vanilla for Steve and chocolate for Bucky, topped with whipped cream and sprinkles.
"Thanks Daisy" Steve says gratefully, it was the simple things like this that Steve appreciated about you. You knew he never had much growing up, and it never bothered him, you wasn't the wealthiest of people either but you always made sure to share, you always involved Steve and he was never made to go without again, eventhough Steve had a bit more money now, Daisy knew he didn't like to spend it, Steve was wary because of how much his father use to spend on gambling, and how much his mother use to stress counting every single penny she could find lying around the house just to afford a loaf of bread, no matter that it was, wether it was a milkshake at the diner, an ice cream from the parlour or making dinner for him, breakfast on a Sunday, just the simple things. That's what Steve adored about Daisy the most. Her heart was good and pure. She may be able to run her mouth and act sassy when she needs too. Steve knew deep down she was precious and delicate, just like a real Daisy.
The owners of the diner were an elderly couple named Lucy and Jim. There son Adam fought with your father in the First World War, they were thick as thieves together. Except Adam never came home, and you don't think your dad ever fully got over that. You hear him call out Adam's name sometimes in the middle of the night, and when your father returned home he spent a lot of time here in the diner, just to support Adam's parents anyway he could, when they were struggling to keep up the work load they offered you a job waitressing and you jumped at the chance. It wasn't exactly what you wanted, but it was better to have the excuse of being busy with work than your father questioning when you were going to find a 'suitable husband'.

Lucy and Jim trusted you with a spare set of keys and allowed you to lock up on your own, they knew that you Steve and Bucky would often hang out after closing time, it was just somewhere to go to unwind, chat and just generally hangout.
Once you locked the doors you made yourself a banana milkshake and sat in the booth next to Steve and opposite Bucky.
You all started chatting and talking for a while, just enjoying each others company. When there's a knock on the front door. All three of your heads turn and you let out a small gasp.
'Is that?' You say awkwardly.
'Yeah...' The Boys both reply.
You get up out of the booth and fumble with the keys to unlock the door. Howard Stark stood prim and proper infront of you. Suit and tie, cigarette behind his ear. He was a year or two older than the three of you in school, him and his girlfriend Peggy Carter were the power couple in this small Brooklyn town for years. After we all graduated they both left on some 'Important business' that nobody knew about, it was top secret and everyone was always curious, but never dared to question it.
'Mr Stark...I apologise, but we're actually closed' You look up at him nervously, tucking a piece of heir behind your ear. There was no doubt that he was handsome, the annoying part was that he knew it. A smirk curved his lips, he briefly looks over at Bucky and Steve before returning eye contact back to you. Steve gulped and started to wonder what he wanted. Bucky glared at him. He never understood what the big deal and fuss was all about.
Howard chuckles lightly 'It's actually you I came to look for, flower' He speaks softly but his voice was deep and raspy. You began to chew on your lip nervously.

'Me?' You splutter out a little.
'Yes Daisy, you, I'm in town for the next week and I was wondering if you would do the honour of accompanying me on a date' He speaks confidently. Not an ounce of doubt in his voice.
Your heart begins to pound. You try not to look back but you can feel Bucky and Steve's eyes watching you carefully. Bucky looked at Steve and could see he had the wind knocked out of him. Completely distressed in what your response would be. Bucky took a deep breath. Anticipation and dread kicking in for his bestfriend.
'Oh...wait, what about Peggy?' You asked in shock.
'We ended things, about six months ago' You could see the small shift in Howard. Peggy's name making him squirm a little.
'I'm sorry.. I didn't mean to..'
'It's fine flower, so is that a yes?' His assertiveness was demanding.
'Actually I Uh...' you actually turn around this time to see Bucky and Steve. You look at them both signalling for help, but they obviously don't get the hint. Steve can barely look at you.
'Oh I'm sorry, are you..are you dating one of them?' Howard points out to Bucky and Steve.
'No...' you mumble out. You wish you could have said yes. The only person in your mind was Steve.
'Great, so it's a date, I'll pick you up from your house tomorrow night, 7pm' Howard gives you a nod and a wicked smile before turning around and walking away.
'How do you know where I live?' You call out.
He turns back and just smiles 'Don't doubt me flower' you watch as he drives away in utter disbelief.
You lock the door once again and turn around to see Steve and Bucky still watching you.
You plonk yourself back down in the booth and you let out a massive sigh.
'Thanks for your help, jerks' You scowl.
Steve chokes on the remainder of his milkshake.
'You had it handled pretty well if you ask me' Bucky scoffs. Clearly aggravated.
'No I didn't! I don't want to go on a date with Howard! What the hell!' You start to panic. Reality setting in.
Bucky and Steve exchange looks for a slight second.
'You don't?' Steve croaks out. The colour had drained from his face but that remark made relief pour back over him.
'No!' You lean into Steve's shoulder and he wraps an arm around you.
'Well..that'll be fun' Bucky can't help but laugh to spite you.
You scoop up the leftover of the whipped cream from your milkshake and smear it across his face.
'Daisy!' He yells at you. Before a food fight erupts. The three of you end up covered in sprinkles, cream and an assortment of milkshake remanence before you all collapse into uncontrollable laughter.
'Help me clean this mess up!' You call out to them both.
'Which mess are you referring too? The diner or Howard Stark?' Bucky asks menacingly.
Steve nudges Bucky and Bucky nods. Toning it down a bit.
'Both?' You cry out.

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

Aethernum—Cradle of Yore
Diary Number 999, year I-don't-care, location home. Parenting. Of all I've found clear answers except for this most mundane topic. And not for the lack of trying. My library, so humongous my good friends told me one after the other there is no book it doesn't contain helped little. There are crumbling tomes of ancient magic, vocabularies depicting the evolution of the magical language itself, grimoires and holy bibles of cults long past, rows and rows filled with scrolls bearing the efforts of my magical research, contracts, diaries, letters and more. But parenting? There was none. Yet a struggle nearly every member of the Races is not foreign to. I...must have lived under a rock. Across aeons no less. What a humbling revelation.
