you comfort him.
the quinjet wasn't the most calm place, especially with six brooding avengers inside of it. you sat across from bruce, letting him keep his hand delicately placed under yours. hulking out had always taken a toll on him, but in some instances, it was worse than the others.
"hey." you spoke softly, coaxing bruce to take off his headphones. "are you doing better?" you asked him, referencing his glum nature.
he shrugged, looking down towards the floor of the jet. "i just-" he took a shuddered breath, his lips pursing together. "sometimes i can't come up from the low the other guy causes."
"i know, i know." you stated, letting his head rest on your shoulder as he took uneven breaths in and out. "i know."
you two stayed like that, safe from the prying eyes of the team, until the quinjet landed in front of the compound. and even then, you two scurried off to your bedroom, making sure bruce could get a good night's rest.

On a more meta note, I am trying to develop two storylines parallel to each other. As you might have noticed, odd-numbered chapters are very different from even-numbered chapters. That’s because those are the two different storylines; odd-numbered chapters are in the present, while even-numbered ones are in the past. Once the two eventually meet I'll continue with just the present storyline. This story can also be found here where it currently updates every other Sunday (about twice a month).
