《Hatake Pride》Part XXI

~Kashin~
"Heads up!" Boruto yelled as we run through the academy corridors.
Boruto, Denki, Inojin, Metal, Shikadai, and I had broken off from the rest of the boys. Our main objective, at the current moment, was making it to the roof before the girls did. I don't understand why we didn't just try to climb the outside frame, that seemed like the easiest way to get there... that and we wouldn't set off every. single. trap. Shino-sensei had set.
"Damnit! What was Shino-Sensei thinking with all this stuff anyway? At this rate, the school will be destroyed!" Boruto exclaimed as we ran down another corridor.
"I know he's trying to help... but this is ridiculous~ Watch out!" I try to say but cut myself off when I catch the sight of another paper bomb, grabbing Denki and pulling him to the space between me and the wall as the bomb goes off.
"Oh, thanks Kashin," Denki sighed.
"Looks like we're the only ones left on the boys' team, most of the others didn't even make it into the building!" Shikadai told us, looking back at the empty hallways.
I turned my head back to look over my shoulder when the sound of rapid footsteps reached my ears. Metal must have heard the girls too because he stopped running and skillfully caught all eight shuriken that was thrown at us. The others and I all stopped as well to watch the group of girls glare at us.
'Nice,' I watch the young Lee.
"I... will remain... here~" Metal's voice broke as he became nervous.
"Ah Metal? Are you ok?" Boruto asked.
"Ah~ Of course!" Metal broke down, shaking.
'Yeeeeaaah... no...' I sigh.
I then heard the sound of more shuriken at the ready and lifted my eyes to see Sarada raise three, hurling them toward us.
"AH!" So our group started running again... although, Metal remained where he was... because he was pinned to the wall... with the shuriken Sarada threw.
"Hey guys this way," I usher my four classmates to one of the side doors, pushing it open and running up the fire-escape staircase.
"Kashin?" I heard Boruto question from behind me.
"Trust me," I called back.
"I thought about it from the beginning... why strain going through the academy from the inside when getting to the rooftop from the outside seemed so much easier. Plus this way we leave the girls to set off all Sensei's traps," I explain, running up and stopping at the last door, the one that leads into the last corridor that had the roof staircase inside.

"Good idea Kashin," Shikadai complimented me.
"One problem..." Boruto, Denki, Shikadai, and I turned our heads to Inojin.
"The door's locked," He pulled on the handle.
"No worries, I've got this," Denki said smirking.
Connecting his computer to the outside lock, it took him... 2, 3? seconds before the light was green and we were allowed inside.
"Sweet! Let's get that flag!" Boruto cheered.
"Hold on... I just had a really good idea," Shikadai said with a sly smirk that I did not find comforting at all.
So we re-entered the building and quietly ran around as we searched for the girls. I was darting my eyes every which way to catch any movement but my ears caught a 'shh'.
"Hold," I whispered, putting my hand out to stop the other three.
"What?" Boruto asked looking around.
That's when the patting sounds of shoes on the floor reached everyone's ears and we watched Sarada and a bunch of other girls run past.
"Now Denki!" Shikadai whisper shouted.
Denki nodded, pressing a button on his computer and lowering the firewall in that corridor, blocking the route the girls were taking to the roof. Inojin then threw a scroll into the corridor and used his Super Beast Scroll to summon a chameleon, freaking the life out of all the girls except Sarada.
"And that's how you hurt opponents without dirtying your hands... am I right Shikadai?" Inojin grinned.
"Say it like that and someone might get the wrong idea..." The young Nara looked at Inojin strangely.
"Ok so we've trapped and distracted the girls, can we go now?" I ask as Boruto pushes another button on Denki's computer and the sprinklers come on, wetting the girls and washing away Inojin's beast.
"Damn, I still can't get it to work like my Dad's..." The blonde sighed.
"Let's move," Shikadai nodded and we headed down the next corridor.
Unfortunately, we ran into Chocho and the rest of the girl's team before we made it to the staircase.
"They split up!"
"Who cares! Let's just charge them!" Boruto growled.
So we ran at the girls, Inojin to the left, running along the wall while Shikadai did the same on the right, jumping off the window. Boruto ran straight at Chocho and slid under her legs while I jumped and front-flipped over her head, all of us landing behind them successfully. Boruto grinned at us and we smiled or gave thumbs-up back.
"Ah? Denki! What are you doing?" I turned to see the brunette boy on his knees with tears in his eyes.

"Go on without me," He shivered as Sarada's group walked up behind him.
"No!"
"Boruto let's go!" I grabbed the blonde and ran with Inojin and Shikadai, taking shelter in the Ninja Tool Supply Room.
We sat in there discussing what we should do next. There were way more girls left than boys, and we wouldn't be able to fight them head-on inside anymore. Shikadai, having remembered what I said earlier suggested we just try to reach the roof climbing the outside walls. It was a good idea but the walls were slippery and there was nothing to hold onto.
"Boruto, Inojin, and I will be decoys... while you a Kashin find a way to the roof," Shikadai told us.
"Right," Both the young Uzumaki and I nodded.
"What about all the girls on the roof?" Inojin asked.
"I'll take a stroll, use a summoning to get rid of them," Boruto suggested.
"It won't do you any good, we can't summon anything helpful at our level." Shikadai rubbed his chin.
"Uhhh~ actually..." I lowered my head.
"Huh? What is it Kashin?"
"I... already have, my summoning, I can use them to keep the girls away," I look back up at the other boys sheepishly.
"But, you told Konohamaru-Sensei~"
"I lied... I just didn't want to be the only one in class with a full summoning," I cut Boruto off.
"It doesn't matter, this ups our chances at getting that flag," Shikadai told us as he placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Let's do this," We all nod and exit the storage room.
"Inojin, Shikadai, wait..." I call, biting my thumb.
"Yeah?"
"Summoning Jutsu!" I slam my hand to the floor and a huge puff of smoke appears, making my peers cough.
"Wow..."
"Karma, Sho, you stay with me and Boruto, the rest of you, assist Inojin and Skikadai, we need to keep the girls inside the academy away from the rooftop," I tell the selected dogs and wolves the plan.
"You got it Kashin," Sho nodded, he and Karma walking behind me while the other group walked over to Inojin and Shikadai.
"Woah..." Shikadai looked at all the bigger dogs and wolves.
"Let's do this Boss," Ruko said to Shikadai.
"Karma, Sho, Boruto and I need to get from here to the roof as fast as possible without being seen."
"Got it," Karma crouched down and used his nose to buck Boruto onto his back, Sho standing stiff so I could hop onto his.
"Ahh Kashin! I don't know about this!" Boruto cluched Karma's fur tightly.
"Relax kid, just hold on," Karma voiced before he and Sho jumped out the window, standing on the edge before bucking us off their backs into the air.
"Sweet!" Boruto cheered as we landed on the roof.
"Hurry, I don't know how long the others can hold the girls." I stood, looking toward my teamate.
The door in front of us then exploded and Boruto and I stepped back, covering our faces.
"Chocho's going for the flag!"
"Not if I have anything to say about it!" Boruto bit his thumb, doing the summoning jutsu hand signs and pushing his hand to the floor.
I watched with wide eyes as the seal glowed purple and the ground began to shake.
"What...~" I stared in awe.
'He did it...' I watched as a huge white worm-looking snake appeared and attacked the girls.
"ChoCho!" Boruto yelled.
I watched her fly through the air, headed for the edge. I turned and ran to catch her, grabbing her wrist and digging my nails into the roof edge as I went over, hanging.
"Oh god, Kashin please don't let go!" Chocho grabbed my hand with both of hers, looking down at the ground beneath us.
"Just, hold on..." I tell her, looking up at the breaking edge.
I then heard the snake Boruto summoned hiss and barrel toward us. I widened my eyes and felt my eye change in panic before Konohamaru-Sensei appeared and destroyed the summon with a Rasengan.
"Kashin!?" Boruto then appeared and grabbed my wrist of the hand holding the roof, Karma and Sho appearing behind him.
"A little help..." I groan.
I watched Karma grab the back of Boruto's jacket with his teeth, pulling him up so he pulled us up before Sho grabbed hold of Chocho's clothing and pulled her up.
"Ha~ Thanks guys," Chocho sighed.
"No problem," I climb back onto the roof, sitting and holding my left shoulder.
"Sorry about that Chocho," Boruto sulked.
"It's ok... you saved me, and for that I'm grateful..." The orange-haired kunoichi smiled and nodded.
'Man... I'm tired...' I went to lay flat but met fur, seeing Karma and Sho laying behind me.
'And to top it all off... the girls got the flag...' I sigh.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
