《Adopted by Dr. Schneeplestein》Ch. V: Work

I was sitting in my office, studying some patient files. Today was almost like any other, tending to my patients and studying their vitals on the EKGs to make sure they are in good condition. In the time where I'd leave them alone, I would be in my office looking over files and such, both on my computer and on paper.
It was about 5:30 PM, meaning I had an hour left of work. It was always tiring since I was always working since 8 in the morning, but this was my job, and I care deeply for my patients' health here.
was also the main reason I still do my job. All of my life's work, I wouldn't be here still if it wasn't for support, and of course, my brothers'.
I was bout finished looking over a patient's file when I heard a knock on my door.
"Ja? Come in."
The door slowly opened to reveal Vanessa, a nurse who worked on the same floor as I do, and sometimes was my partner with helping patients.
"Hey, Dr. Schneeplestein," she said in a gentle tone, smiling down at me.
"Ah, Vanessa! Vhat can I help you vith?"
"Well, I wanted to check in, see how you're doing. I know your shift is almost up, so..."
"I'm doing alvight, danke," I respond with a gentle smile. Vanessa was always checking in with her patients and even the other doctors and nurses to make sure they're doing well. She's a really caring person.
"That's good to hear! Also, um... I want to ask you a question before you head out."
"Ask avay; I'm all ears."
"Alright, well," she takes a deep breath before continuing. "I want to know, how is ? I'm just curious because I haven't heard much about since... That day."
"Ah, I understand," I say reassuringly.
Now, see, Vanessa... Well, she was actually there with me when I saved from near-death after mother died. She helped me checked vitals and cleaned her up. She was always wondering about ever since, being the caring person she is.
Since then, I would always take care of from home, so Vanessa hasn't seen ( since was only a baby.
" doing vonderful," I said cheerfully. " alvays been a very bright child growing up!"

"Aww, that's great to hear! How about school? Is in high school yet?"
"Ah, vell, you see," I rubbed the back of my neck. "Today vas first day of high school, but ve kinda hit a roadblock."
"What do you mean?"
I sighed. "You remember Vinston?"
"'Winston'... You mean, biological brother??"
"Ja," I nodded slowly. I had driven to school to vish a great first day, but I couldn't help but overhear a commotion coming a few inches inside the entrance, one of the voices belonging to . Apparently, he goes to the same school as , and I couldn't bear seeing him, 's 'brother', hurting ." I sighed deeply and brushed my hand through my hair. "So I have one of mein brozers homeschooling ."
"Henrik, I completely understand. But Winston not knowing who he really was messing with needs to be sorted out." She looked at me with concern. "Ja, I know..."
I looked down at my watch and noticed it was already 6:23. Jeez, my shift was almost over. I took in a deep sigh. "Vell now, I must be heading home," I say and get up to grab my things.
I slid beside Vanessa through the door and gave her a warm smile. "Have a good night, nurse."
She smiles back. "You too, doc," she replies, and we both waved each other off.
The hospital wasn't very far from home, so I didn't need to drive. My legs were feeling a bit sluggish, making me realize I was tired, Great.
'Fuck, I need coffee,' I thought. There were days when working at the hospital would take my energy out of me. But luckily, there's a cafe on the way home, so I walked in and grabbed myself a seat at a table, waiting for a cafe employee to take my order.
After a few minutes, a waiter came up and I tell them my order. When I was alone again, I decided to pull out my phone and text .
"I'm grabbing some coffee, and then I'm on my home. See you soon, Schatz 💙"
About a minute went by and I heard my phone ding. I grabbed it and saw a reply from .
"See you soon, Daddy 😁"

I chuckled and shuffled my phone back into my pocket. Another few minutes went by and the same waiter came back with my coffee drink. I thanked him and waved them off, getting up and heading back out on the sidewalk.
I walked a few feet away from the cafe and took a sip from my cup when something came across my mind. Winston... Whatever he did to , didn't deserve that. I want to go to a normal high school, but I don't want Winston hurting .
They are siblings, born from the same woman who died giving birth to . He needs to know, but Mrs. only gave birth to him a year before , so I have no clue why she had someone with her when Winston was born, but no one was there with her when she had ... I don't understand why.
I was just a couple blocks away from our house and about done with my coffee, I threw the empty cup in our outdoor recycle bin and walked up to our porch, sighing to myself while looking for the keys.
I really hope I can get Y/N to school soon...
I was in my last class for today, Math, waiting for school to get out for today. I kept peering over at the clock on the wall, watching for it to say 2:30, the time school's over. It's my last year of high school, thank God, because it feels like Hell with all this schoolwork to do.
I had finished my last Math paper for today's class, so I was just sitting there silently, reading a book and listening to music through my earbuds. I peered at the clock again and it was 2:28. 'Thank God,' I thought. I looked over and saw other students finishing up and packing their stuff, so I decided to do the same.
My girlfriend, Tiffany, was sitting at the desk in front of me. I have some classes with her, and that's the only thing that makes me happy in this hellhole.
I slid over and talked with her for the last two minutes.
Finally, the bell rang, and all of us students headed out of the school.
I was walking with Tiffany home while we both talked about what happened today in school, especially with ... Yes, I'm talking about .
I can't believe related to the idiot who killed my mother. Why, of all the schools, did have to go to mine!?
We had reached the street of my house. Tiffany kissed me on my cheek and we waved bye to each other.
I walked up to the door and jiggled the doorknob open. That means my Dad was home.
"Hey, Dad," I say as I shut the door and pull my bag and jacket off me. I peered over and saw him eating some lunch, slightly glancing over at me.
"Hey, son. How was school?"
"Fine, I guess."
"You 'guess'? Something happened?"
I sighed and walked over to him, crossing my arms and leaning against the wall. "There was a new kid that came in and looked like a freak."
Dad took another bite of his food before looking up at me, raising an eyebrow. "Why we're picking on some new kid?? I bet didn't do anything to you that was rude."
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah? Well, what if I told you her dad came in and it was Dr. Schneeplestein?"
He almost choked on his next bite and looked at me surprised." You mean HENRIK Schneeplestein!?"
"Yes! That dumbass had their kid going to my school. Like, I need to be haunted about what happened with mom!?" I groaned and clenched my hand into a fist. "At least he took away from there and is homeschooling."
He sighed. "Ok, good. But if you ever see again, don't interact and just go on about your day."
"Ok, dad." I nodded. "I'll be in my room doing homework."
"You got homework for your first day of school?"
"Apparently..." I gritted my teeth and sighed. I hugged him and walked up to my bedroom.
That dumbass doctor, I swear to God...
If his ever interacts with Winston again, it's gonna screw up everything. I don't wanna lose him. I can't. He's the only kid I have. My ex has left me for years now and I can't be left alone again...
If his says anything about what happened to their mom, then that doctor will pay.
