This person may be getting played.
Hello,
This certainly sounds like a stressful situation to be in. I think it was a good thing to back off a bit from them and spend more time with your friends, but as the plot progresses, so let us.
Let's take a look at some possible next steps.
So first off, I do not recommend confronting them about the possibility of their suicide story being fake. It is best to assume they're telling the truth, lest to avoid coming out the "ass"(ume) in the situation in the case that you're incorrect. And as much as we may want to, we are under no obligation to take on other people's pain. That goes for their injury as well. As much as it hurts to see our loved ones in pain, you have no reason to feel guilty for not being able to help them. You can't physically relieve their pain. You have no power over anyone's emotional state but your own. All you can do is support them from the sidelines if you want to stay by their side.
Now, do you want to stay by their side? That's an important question to ask yourself. If you feel like you're getting played by this person, then maybe it's best to go your own way. You said you already told them about how you've been feeling? So why are they waiting for you to come talk to them? The ball is in their court. If they want to do something about it, they need to come talk to you. It's a childish back-and-forth game you're in, hun. But at some point you need to figure out when you're going to stop pushing back. My suggestion is to let them go. Let them come to you, and if they don't then move on your way. It'll suck, and it'll hurt because you care about them, but sometimes you need to lookout for yourself too. As much as we may love someone, if they are a negative force in our lives we need to decide where to place the boundaries, and sometimes that means cutting them out completely. It's up to you to decide where those boundaries need to go.

When he sees a pair of siblings fleeing from a horde of zombies, he broke his carefully cultivated hermit-tude and attempted to save them. Vaeril should have known better. Humans were the real monsters of the apocalypse. Their betrayal left him subsequently bleeding and poisoned on the floor of an apartment. But not all hope was lost.
