Hi! It's totally alright to be confused. I think this is the reason why he gave you the note before leaving—so he wouldn't be able to see your reaction, and so you'd have time to think about it.
Also, keep in mind that he hasn't asked for a reply/an answer to his note. You have all the time you need to figure out what you're feeling, and then you can reply to him.
You have the key to not let it get awkward between you, too. If he asks for an answer, you can ask him to give you some time. Let things be as they were before, and, hopefully, you'll realize your feelings for him sooner than you think!
