Fifteen minutes had already passed but our professor still hasn't arrived yet, so I decided why not and check my phone for a bit while waiting for him. It also just happens to be that I received a text from Renjun. I opened his message and read them,

Just then the door suddenly opened, making me startled but relaxed when i saw that it was just Yiren, our class president. I watched her made her way in front of the class, which made caught everyone's attention.
, she spoke. Everyone shut their mouth as we all listened to what she would be saying,, the room immediately erupted into cheers upon hearing the announcement.
I hummed and raised my eyebrows, I guess what Renjun said was true. A smile immediately made way on my face, but quickly disappeared when I heard what Yiren added later on.
, she continued. There were huffs and whines that escaped from everyone's lips, including mine. I looked back on my phone and noticed that Renjun just replied to my previous message.

I slid my phone back inside my pocket and reached for my backpack which is just under the desk. I took out my book and my gently placed them on my desk, when I raised up my gaze noticed that Yiren was actually writing something on the board.
I furrowed my eyebrows while waiting for her to finish writing so I could see what it was, when she was finally done. She stepped away, so everyone in the class could see what she wrote. I opened my book and flipped the pages, looking for the assigned page for us.
Yiren made her way back to her seat, , she added before taking her seat.
I froze upon hearing her announcement, but remained to keep a neutral face. I pretended I wasn't aware that Y/N took a quick glance at me before shifting uncomfortable on their seat. I didn't even bother to look up at them, instead I pretended that I was reading my book just to avoid their gaze. You got to be kidding me, I refuse to believe that I would be paired up with them, out of all people.
I pressed my lips into a thin line, if it really wasn't for this activity and for the sake of myself having a good grade. Interacting with this person who sat beside me, isn't really necessary. To my surprise, I was actually doing okay bearing their presence beside me. But I can't imagine that I'm gonna scoot closer and talk to them. But of course, I literally have no choice but to work with them, unless I want to fail his subject and lose my scholarship. Do I really have to?
I glanced at Yiren who was already working along with her seatmate, there's got to be another way because I'm really not talking to Y/N. Never. Over my dead body.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Y/N face at me but I just looked past him. He opened his mouth but quickly shut it back again once he saw me look away from him. I saw him shifting his body away from me and flipped the pages of his book, can't I change partners?
I heard them took a deep breath which made me gulp and close my eyes. I turned and faced my book once again, I saw them slouch back on their seat before sitting up straight again. I saw them took a quick glance at me from the corner of his eye, then I heard them clear out their throat.
, they stared. Y/N finally looked at me, but my eyes never left the book which made them hesitate to continue. I slowly look at them, making our eyes locked for a few seconds before I averted my gaze away from them again and looked down on the floor.
They opened his mouth so say something when Yiren beat them to it,, she announced.
And just like that, it seems like my prayers from above have been answered. I tried to hold back the smile that was starting to form on my lips, because I don't really want to talk to them. I didn't even asked for Y/N's permission if I could work individually instead, and began working on the activity already.
Y/N turned around to look at me, they were about to say something but quickly hesitated when they saw me answering the activity already. They froze on his seat and could only stare at me, I tried my best to not raise up my head to meet their gaze.
Instead, I 'kind of' pretended that I'm too focused and busy on answering the activity to even bother to look up at them. It seems like they quickly got the signal I sent to them that I want to work alone and not as pairs. I heard them deeply sigh before turning away from me and started to answer the activity alone.
Whilst they was busy answering their activity, I couldn't help myself from taking quick glances at them from time to time. Their lips are tightly pressed in a thin line while their eyebrows are furrowed together, not to mention their tightened fist on top of their desk.
I averted my gaze from them and focused back my attention on my book, I let out a low sigh while merely shaking my head. No matter how many times I tried to push the pang in my chest, I couldn't help but feel a bit saddened about our situation right now.
Believe me Y/N, I really wanted to talk and interact a lot with you but things aren't the same like they used to before. The memories that you left were still fresh, whenever I look are you, or even if my friends suddenly brought up something that reminds me of you, memories we once shared came gushing back to me. Whether it's happy memories or sad ones, it's doesn't matter, as long as I'm with you it would be considered as a precious memory to me.
