《Meet On The Ledge || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 37

When they left that night, it felt weird. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it was that I finally felt like I had reunited with my family or maybe it was just from the alcohol, but my stomach was twirling uncontrollably.
A loud knock came at my door, "Open the fucking door now!" Julie's voice echoed. I got up, noticing that I was still in my outfit from the night prior. I took a deep breath in before undoing the bolt and letting the door open. She stormed in past me, speaking fast. "-so what? Now you don't even call me. You don't text and say 'yeah, I'm alright. I didn't get killed when I left you.' You do know that's fucked up, I was worried." She huffed the words out, like they were taking all her left over energy and using it up for their own good. I held my hand up to my temple, wincing at the sudden movements she made.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking."
"You have to think next time!"
"I will, I promise I'll tell you next time."
"Good." She said, satisfied with my answer. "Now what was with the music last night, kids said it sounded like you were having a party?"
"It was nothing, really.." She raised her eyebrows at me. "It was just some kids from back home, they came to visit sort of."
"We could've just stayed in last night, I didn't know you had people coming."
"No, no, it was sort of a surprise. Besides you can meet them... well, you can meet them tonight." I said, a little weary of telling her who they were. "At a concert.. Yeah a concert tonight."
"A concert?"
"Yeah, you heard me." I said, sass present in my tone as I walked over to make a cup of coffee.
"What kind?" She asked innocently.
"You'll see."
"Well, what do I wear?"
"Jules, just wear what you normally would."
"You do know that you're not helpful."
"Yeah, I also know that my opinion won't change yours." I stuck my tongue out at her.
I thought a lot that day. What would I say to them? How would I talk to them in this scenario? Scenes played through my head in stories I'd heard of rock n' roll romances. How people would fall in love and go on tour with a group of guys they barely knew. Of course, I knew these guys and I couldn't say for sure if I was really in love with any of them. Well, I did love Sammy. I definitely loved Sammy, but he didn't count. He's just a lamb, the brother I always wished I'd had. I was really only worried to see Jake. He had done some shit, but I had retaliated and done some stuff back. I just wasn't sure if something could change. I might as well just not think about it right? Why suffer anymore? Why think of all that, when I should just let it go? I wasn't sure that I could, that's why.

"Are you almost ready?" I asked, turning the corner to see Jules in black jeans, a sheer black blouse, and a leather jacket. I looked down at my own outfit.
"Is that what you're wearing?" She asked, laughing a little.
"What's wrong with this?" She walked over and pulled at my jean jacket.
"Is this gonna be some Bon Iver shit? Because then I should change." She asked, I laughed at that.
"No, you look good. I'm just feeling up to dressing up."
"Okay, but you're literally wearing a t shirt and Levi's." She paused looking over at my bed where she'd laid out her clothing option. "At least put that shirt on." She pointed to a light weight, white shiny satin shirt. It was long sleeved and cut sort of like a mom shirt, but it had always look good on her. "Come on, it'll look good."
"Fine." I said, taking off my coat and shirt to put it on. "Happy?"
"If you would really like to know, yes I am. Although, I sense some sarcasm." I put my index finger on my nose, letting her know she was right on.
"Let's just go." I said, putting the jean jacket back on and picking up my black crossbody.
It didn't take us long to get to the venue, not long at all. She took a deep breath when she saw the marquee. "Is this a joke?" She said, almost short of breath.
"Nope." I popped my 'p'.
"I've been trying to get tickets to this for weeks and suddenly two just fall into your lap??"
"Yep." I said mimicking my last 'p'.
"Alright let's just get on line." She said as we looked back at the already forming line. I
shook my head, a smile forming at the corners of my lips. I grabbed her arm, linking mine in with hers and gently yanking her the opposite direction. "Stop, we need to get in line."
"Just.. come on." We moved through the crowded street and turned the corner twice to get to the back of the building. A van was sat on the street with blacked out windows and next to the door was a large man. I fluffed my hair and little and brought Julie with me to talk to him. "Hi, I should be under any form of the Maggie. Ya know.. Mags, Sammy's Bitch, any version." I said, humour floating off my tongue. It was obvious he didn't think it was so funny as he looked through a list. His hand moved to the door, pushing it open.

"Third door on your left." I nodded at him, smiling and walked into the dimly lit building.
"What the fuck just happened?" Julie asked, her face showing every possible sign of shock.
"You'll see." I continued down the hall, making it to the black door frame. I knocked lightly, following it up with a yell. "Are any of you naked?"
"Come in!" Sammy shouted. Pushing the door open, I stuck my head in first hoping they were clothed and hadn't just told me to come in. "I wouldn't have said come in if I didn't mean it." He got up from his place on the couch and walked over to me.
"You never kno-" I was stopped with a hug, a tight one. "Sam... Sammy... Alright Sam, stop." I laughed through my words. I reached behind me to grab Julie and bring her into the room. Clearing my throat loudly so everyone would look over. "Guys, this is my friend Julie. Julie these are some guys I know." I looked at her facial expressions. I knew that I said she was shocked before, but this was on another level, something out of this world. They said hellos to her and waved, but she stood there frozen. "Cool." I said breaking the awkwardness. Taking her hand, I brought her to the couch that Josh was sitting on. He was doing some weird prayer thing and I was just waiting for him to pull out ayahuasca or something along those lines. I sat across from them, sitting in a comfortable silence.
"What're you thinking about?" A voice said, plopping down beside me.
"Just Josh's outfit." I responded to Jake, looking at Josh's get up. He grew a rat tail and had it braided, which made me kind of want to throw up, but it was understandable for his fashion sense. He wore what looked like my grandmother's shirt and a pair of black leather pants, the moccasins on his feet couldn't be ignored either. I watched at he started talking to Julie. It made me smile.
"He's been.. Experimenting a little." He almost whispered. He was sitting so close to me, but it felt like he was a stranger. He didn't smell the same and his hair was much longer than it had been, but he still hair tie ring thing and that was the sign of familiarity.
"If he's happy that's alright. Everyone should experiment every once in a while." I laughed at my own words and at me actually being in this position.
"Do you th-" He started, this time whispering right into my ear, the hairs on my neck standing up, but he was interrupted.
"You're on in 10, be ready." Michael said, his head popping out from behind the corner. "Maggie?" He said, doing a double take.
"In the flesh." I smiled to him, getting up to give him a hug, then taking my seat again.
"Keep them in line tonight, I don't want another Barcelona."
"You wish Barcelona could happen again!" Sammy yelled, lighting a joint. "AND it's not BarCelona, it's BarTHelona. Everyone knows that man." I giggled at his words.
"Should you be doing that before you go on?" I asked looking over my shoulder.
"Calms the nerves." He said, making these little o's with his mouth and then retracting them like he was going to speak repeatedly. Oh Sammy.
"We should go out." Jake said to everyone, turning his head to me and giving me a meekly smile. I smiled back, it felt different to smile at him like this.

How to raise a Hive Queen
This story is about a newborn Hive Queen, which gets raised in an unexpected environment. The first part of the story will focus on her development and the challenges that come with it. Eventually she will start to produce her own swarm of hive creatures. The species of the Hive Queen is called the Sylv and they are a insectoid species with an hive mind. The Sylv can evolve themselves through extracting traits from other non Sylv creatures. This is limited to modify the basic set of creatures the Sylv can produce, they are not able to create completely new creatures. In this regard they are more like ants, who have workers, soldiers and queen ants. The Sylv live underground in so called hive complexes and use living structures in them to produce more of their kind. The Hive Queen is the leader of a Sylv Hive and responsible for evolving the swarm. This novel takes place in a fantasy setting and was inspired by other hive species like the Zerg from "Starcraft" made by Blizzard Entertainment, the Arachnea from "Her majesty's swarm" published on j-novel club, and the Vex from "I don't want to be the Hive Queen" by ValetheHowl. I really enjoy stories with an organic hive mind species and want to contribute myself. The focus and theme of this story will change as the Hive Queen matures and defines the goals she wants to achieve.
