《Always There || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 73: Trust Me

The next morning I woke up to Jake's arm tightly wrapped around my stomach, pulling me up against him. I carefully flipped over to see him still sleeping, cuddling closer as he nuzzled his face in my neck. If this was the Jake I could have all the time, the idea of saying 'yes' to him just became.. so much easier.
I leaned in, gently kissing his forehead before discretely maneuvering out of his arms, peeking back at him from the doorway before quietly making my way down stairs. A permanent smile spread across my lips as I made us both coffee, his extra song, just how he liked it. As I carefully made my way back up, two cups in hand, my smile grew as I pushed the door open to see him sitting up, looking around sleepily.
"Well, good morning." I said happily, bringing his cup over to him, placing it down on my end table. He flashed me a tired smile, reaching out for me.
"I thought you left me." He sighed. I shook my head, sitting down next to him.
"This is my room, where am I gonna go?" I laughed, taking a sip. He smirked back at me, rubbing his eyes before reaching over for his mug.
"You made me coffee?" I nodded, feeling my cheeks burn. He took a sip, keeping his eyes locked on me.
"Oh, I could get used to this."
"Well, don't." I laughed. "This is the first and last time we'll be able to do this." He shrugged, holding his stare on me, his eyes still half open and tired.
"Not if you come with us." He muttered. I shot him a look, crawling back into bed next to him.
"Did you sleep good, at least?" I asked. He nodded.
"That's probably the best sleep I've had in.. a long time." He said softly, leaning over, gently kissing my cheek. "You're sure I can't stay another-"
"It's bad enough they already know you didn't come home last night." I joked. He giggled to himself, avoiding my eyes.
"I'm sure they know where I am, Jaime."
Unfortunately, I knew they did too.
"Can I.. ask you something? And then.. I promise I won't bring it up again.. today." He smirked.

"Alright, what is it?"
"Does this.. ever end with us being together?" He asked, his eyes now nervous as they looked back down at his cup, taking another sip. I hesitated for a moment before eventually giving him a subtle nod, trying my best to contain my smile. His smile grew.
"Okay. That's all I need to know."
I always lost track of time when I was with him, like when we were together, time just didn't matter anymore, and the rest of the world was left to bend to our schedule cause who were they to try and pry us apart.
"I do have practice today." He said, looking over at his phone. "So.. if you're not busy.."
"I think I should let you guys get through one practice without showing up and distracting you." He shook his head, giggling to himself as he pulled me into a bitter kiss, his lips strong and coffee stained, tasting like the perfect Sunday morning.
"But you've come to plenty of practices before, and it got us this far."
"Yeah, well, things were different back then." He shook his head.
"They weren't that different. You just didn't know it. I was still writing you songs then." My heart jumped, another smile escaping my lips as I pulled him back into a passionate kiss.
"I hope you never get tired of kissing me." He sighed, staring back at me with dazed eyes.
"I could never get tired of kissing you."
And then I heard my phone ring. I sighed, reaching over for it when my heart jumped, seeing Josh's name across the screen. I could feel Jake's grip on me get tighter. I peeked over at him, unsure if I should answer with him here or not. He eventually nodded, rolling his eyes. I brought it up to my ear, knowing better than to let him on speaker around Jake anymore.
"Hey."
"Hi Jaime!" He said cheerfully. I couldn't help but smile at the sound of his voice. Despite everything that was happening, I missed him. Him and I used to hang out almost every single day, and now it's felt like forever since I've really seen him. I think this was the longest we had ever been apart.
"What are you up to?" I asked, trying to contain the smile is my voice, feeling Jake glaring at me, trying his best to listen closely.

"I was just wondering what you were up to. We have band practice today, but maybe after.. if you're not busy.." He trailed off. My stomach dropped. I knew he was going to ask to see me
"What were you thinking?"
"Well, I was wondering if.. maybe you could help me with some film stuff?" I was glad he was still thinking about that. Even though the band was about to take off, I hoped he never lost sight of the things that he loved to do too.
"W-what do you need me to do?" I asked, feeling my face get hot.
"Really just.. keep me company while I film." He laughed.
"Um.." I muttered, looking back at Jake who was giving me questioning eyes.
"What is he saying?" He mouthed.
"Y-yeah, I.. I think I can do that."
"Great!" He said happily. "I'll come get you after practice, okay?"
"Okay."
"Alright, I'll see you later." He waited a minute before finally hanging up.
I tossed my phone to the side, looking back at Jake who's jaw was already clenched, his once happy expression instantly fading.
"What did he want?" He asked sternly.
"He wanted me to.. help him with some film stuff after your practice." I said quietly, avoiding his eyes. He was quiet.
"And you said yes?"
"Before anything happened with us, and the band, I promised him I would help him.."
"I don't know why he's even doing this to begin with." He muttered. "It's not like he can do that once we leave."
"Because this is what he loves, and he should get to do that too." I snapped. His face dropped.
"I just.. I don't.. I don't feel comfortable-"
"Jake, he's my best friend. He's.. he's always been there and it's not fair for me to shut him out just because.. well, just because we-"
"You've also slept with him." He snapped. My stomach dropped, feeling like my face was on fire.
"But you know how I feel about you." I said, biting down on my lip.
"It's not like you'd be cheating on me anyway.." He said softly, avoiding my eyes. I tilted his chin back up to face me.
"Look, if I'm gonna trust you, you have to trust me too, okay? Nothing is going to happen, with anyone else. Because regardless of.. what we're calling this right now.." I sighed, leaning into a gentle kiss. "I'm yours." He bit down on his lip, trying to contain his smile as his cheeks burned bright red.
"I'm yours too." He whispered, pulling me into another long, passionate kiss. "So.. does this mean that I'm your b-"
"No." I laughed. He sighed, pulling me into another series of kisses.
"Ugh, you're killing me." He groaned, flashing me a wide grin, giggling to himself. I playfully rolled my eyes, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"Now, you should probably change out of my clothes before you go to practice." I giggled, looking down at my shirt.
"You mean.. I can't take this home with me?" I shook my head. Any other shirt, maybe. But.. not this one.
"I can give you another one to take home." I said softly. He nodded, giving me a gentle smile.
"Okay."
I went back over to my closet, flipping through my hangers until I came across another oversized t-shirt that I was sure would fit him. He pulled the one he was wearing over his head, placing it on my pillow, and took the new one from my hands, pulling it on in its place.
"Why do you have a Gibson shirt?" He laughed, looking down at it. I shrugged, sitting back down next to him.
"It's what my dad played. I think he was sure that I would follow in his footsteps, but.. I guess it just never stuck. But.. I think it's perfect for you." His smile grew as he pulled me into another passionate kiss, gently tangling his fingers in my hair.
"Do you think that.. you can keep your time with him short?" He finally asked. "Because.. I want to see you tonight." I nodded, my smile growing.
"Is this a date?" I laughed.
"Oh, this is absolutely a date." He said happily, pulling me into another kiss. I would never get tired of kissing him, and I prayed he'd never stop.
"I'll see you then."
