《Always There || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 76: Yellow

I slipped on my dress, twirling around in the mirror as he sat back on my bed, admiring me with a gentle smile and his usual dazed eyes. When he looked at me like that, I always felt like the most beautiful girl in the room.
"What do you think?" I asked, shyly turning back to him. He reached out, gently grabbing onto the dress and pulled me over to him, moving me into his lap.
"I'm so lucky." He sighed, reaching up, holding my face in his hand as he leaned into a gentle kiss. "You are stunning."
I bit down on my lip, feeling my face get hot, unable to contain my heartfelt grin.
"Thank you." I sighed, kissing him again. I took his hand, carefully sliding out of his lap, pulling him up from the bed.
"Now we have to get you ready." I said, playfully pulling him towards the door.
"You're gonna come over?" He asked, smirking back at me.
"If.. if you can promise.. that no one will know I'm there." He nodded.
"I promise."
He quickly lead me across the yard towards their backdoor, where he peeked inside, looking around before waving me in. He took my hand again, guiding me through the kitchen and quickly up the stairs and into his bedroom, swiftly shutting the door behind us.
I looked around again before plopping down onto his bed, replaying that night we were together in here over and over in my head. The first time he really kissed me was right here. The first time he told he how he felt. Well, kind of. This is where.. everything started.
If you didn't count when we were little.
But deep down, I always would.
He went over to his closet and started flipping through, occasionally peeking back at me, holding up a shirt or two, and then quickly putting it back.
"I'm sure it can't be that hard." I laughed. He smirked back at me.
"I just.. want it to be perfect." He muttered.
"So.. what made you pick some place so fancy?" I asked, gently kicking my feet back and forth over the side of the bed as I watched him continue to search through a second time.

"Cause.." He said, keeping his back turned. "Tonight is special." My heart jumped.
"What makes tonight so special?"
"Because.. I've never taken you out on a nice date before."
Part of me hoped that wasn't the only reason. I could only imagine he had been thinking about what we had talked about. Or at least.. I hoped he had.
"Jake, you look great in anything, I'm sure that you have-"
"Here it is." He finally said, pulling out a dark blue blazer, the exact same blue as my dress.
"I love that you want to match." I said. His smile grew as he wrapped it around him, spinning around in the mirror. I got up, going over and wrapped my arms around him, leaning my head against his back. I felt his fingers gently gliding down my arm, tracing a small "L" across the back of my hand.
"And I love that you think I look great in anything." He giggled. I squeezed him tighter.
He turned around to face me, pulling me into a quick kiss.
"What should I do with my hair?" He asked, running his fingers through it.
"Whatever you want, I told you, you always look-"
"Yeah, but.. what do you like?" I couldn't help but smile, feeling my cheeks burn, knowing he had never cared what any of the other girls thought of his appearance.
"I really mean it when I tell you I like anything you do." I said softly. He shook his head, giggling to himself.
"You're impossible." He sighed, trying to hold in his smile as he turned back to the mirror, pulling my pink scrunchie off of his wrist and tying his hair up in a bun. I felt my heart starting to beat faster.
I did love when he tied his hair up.
He peeked back at me, noticing my reaction.
"See.." He said, leaning down, gently kissing my cheek. "All you had to do was say that you like it like this."
"But I really-" He cut me off, pulling me back into another series of gentle kisses.

"You're so cute."
"I should really give you something else of mine. The pink doesn't even match." He shook his head, flashing me a wide grin.
"I don't care, it's yours and that's all that matters." I sighed, wrapping my arms back around his neck as he held me close, now gently rocking us from side to side.
"Now that you're all cleaned up, can we go?" I asked, staring back up at him. He peeked over at his phone, tapping the screen, showing that he had the same photo of him and I as his Lock Screen.
"Well.. we still have a little time before our reservation."
"Where is it?"
"It's right in town." He said simply, his smile growing.
"Where right in town?" I asked. "Are.. are we going to-"
"Okay, so.. I know Amanti's is your favorite, but.. I figured.. you go there all the time, so.. I wanted to do something.. a little different for us, if that's okay. But.. I need you to know that I know that." He laughed, now pretending to spin me around, pulling me back in, continuing to sway back and forth.
"Okay, okay.." I laughed. "So then where are we going?"
"Since it's such a special occasion.. I got us a reservation Lilia's." My heart jumped. Lilia's was one of if not the nicest restaurant in town. It was practically impossible to get a reservation, and even if you did, I don't know how anyone could afford anything on that menu.
"Jake, how did you.. that's too.. I don't want you to-" He shook his head, pulling me into a kiss.
"Don't worry about it. I know a guy and.. I want to spoil you a little bit, okay?"
"You know I appreciate it, but.. I don't want you to think you have to spend all this-"
"Tonight is a special night, Jaime. I won't make a habit of it, I promise. But sometimes.. you gotta let me do nice things for you, okay?" He said, flashing me a beaming grin that I could never say no to. I hesitated for a moment, not used to someone doing something like this for me, but eventually nodded.
"Okay." I sighed, gently caressing his cheek.
"Okay, good." He said happily, pulling me into another long kiss before taking my hand, leading me out into the hallway, quickly down the stairs and out the front door. As we reached his car, he opened the passenger door for me, playfully nudging me inside. After hastily making his way around the car and hopping into the driver's seat, he peeked over at me, catching his breath.
"You know, all this sneaking around is getting exhausting." He laughed. "Hopefully you can give me a break soon." I bit down on my lip, keeping my eyes forward trying my best to contain my grin, knowing that.. if given the opportunity tonight, I would be more than happy to give him a break from all the sneaking around. A permanent break.
He reached over for my hand, intertwining our fingers as we quietly drove until he eventually turned on the radio, flipping through the channels. Finally he stopped on a channel, and a smile escaped my lips. He noticed as he peeked over at me.
"Do you like this song?" He asked. I nodded, keeping my eyes forward.
"This was the song my dad played for my mom.. that night, outside of her window." I could feel his eyes on me now, his face glowing red from the stoplight above. I turned to face him, giving him a gentle smile. We stayed quiet, just enjoying it, as well as each other's company, until finally he started humming along, his thumb gently tracing over the top of my hand as he kept his eyes forward.
"You like this song?" I asked. He nodded, his smile growing.
"Yeah." He sighed, peeking over at me. "But it's.. one of those songs that.. you suddenly hear differently once someone else gives it meaning." My heart jumped, my grip on his hand getting tighter.
"I know what you mean."

Unlimited Evolution narrates the struggles of a young man from earth who gets the short end of the stick even in a different world. After a betrayal that resulted in his death, he wakes as a monster in a dungeon where even his fellow monsters saw him as nothing but food. The story will be a little slow-paced in the beginning and the battles will be calculated, brutal, and short. The litRPG element will be there and the system plays an important role in world-building. I'll try to explore each and every character I introduce as much as I can. Hopefully, I do a good job in that aspect. **I hope you enjoy this book of mine.**
