《Always There || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 142: Patience

As tired as I was, I couldn't bring myself to fall asleep on the plane, not wanting to miss a single second of how beautiful it was up here. It was like what you saw in the movies. Flight attendants making their way down the aisle every few minutes, offering you complementary snacks and drinks, providing us with pillows and blankets, eye masks and headphones.
"You better make sure the band works out." I laughed, leaning my head on his shoulder. "Because this is awesome." He nodded, giggling to himself.
"You know, we could get the same treatment if our movie does well too." I peeked up at him, feeling my cheeks burn.
"Our movie?" I asked. We had never really discussed which direction either of us wanted to go when it came to that. Did we want to work together? Or did we want to support each other from afar through our own projects?
Either way, I knew I would be so lucky just to get a look into his mind when it came to this kind of thing. He was an amazing singer, but the way he filmed, it was like giving me an entirely new perspective into a world I had grown so accustomed to. He just had a way of making the most ordinary appear so magnificent, only making me wonder how beautiful the world looked from behind his eyes.
"Have you been working on things for your portfolio?" I asked, moving my hand over onto the arm rest. He didn't hesitate to reach over, intertwining his fingers into mine.
"Here and there." He said. "When I can. Who knew being in a band would keep you so busy."
"What have you been shooting?" I asked. He shrugged, looking back out the window.
"A little of this, a little of that.." He said nonchalantly.
"You're really not gonna tell me?"
"I promise, you'll be the first one to see when I'm done."
"Okay." I sighed, finally letting myself close my eyes.
And in what felt like an instant I was gently shaken awake, Josh inches away from my face.

"Hey.." He whispered, giving me a tired smile, gently brushing the hair out of my face. "We're here. I got your bag, okay?" I nodded. rubbing my eyes, looking around to see that we were one of the last ones left on the plane. When I could finally focus, I felt him slip his hand back into mine, carefully guiding us down the aisle and into the airport.
As we stepped into the lobby it felt like we were stepping back into real life again; the past few hours nothing but a dream, but now I was forced with a choice to make. I loved them both, I knew that, but this wasn't fair to either of them. I knew that too.
It was easy, being alone with Josh and knowing just how much I loved him, seeing how perfect it was when we were together, and there were no outside distractions to make me second guess any of it, but it was like the second I saw Jake again, I began to question everything. I don't know what it was, this affect he had over me, all I knew was as soon as I got around him, it was like I was yanked right back to that first time I saw him with another girl, feeling like all of those moments together before had meant nothing to him, and that maybe.. having him now, it was validating my past self. Like she had finally won. It was finally her turn.
Or maybe that was the case in the beginning, but now.. now I knew so much more about the little boy I had once had a crush on growing up, but now he was the man that was changing, for the better, for me. Or so I hoped. And maybe he would one day be ready for me completely..
But Josh..
He was ready now.
For everything.
And.. I think I was too.
"I'm gonna talk to him, okay?" I said softly, peeking up at him as we made our way through finally reaching the escalators.
"I don't want you to do anything you don't mean." He said. "If you want to be with him, then-"

"I just.. I think him and I need to talk. About a lot." I said, feeling my face get hot. He nodded, looking away again when I saw his face drop.
I looked ahead to see what he was looking at when my heart jumped, my whole body feeling like it was on fire. I quickly pulled my hand out of his when I saw Jake standing near the front doors, "Kiszka" sign in hand, just like in the movies, along with a bouquet of pink roses. I couldn't help but smile as he gave me a gentle wave, quickly making his way over to me, not hesitating to pull me into a tight hug, spinning me around. I held on tight, wrapping my arms around him as he finally backed away, pulling me into a passionate kiss.
It was embarrassing how quickly my mind just went blank when he kissed me, unable to think about anything but him, instantly wanting more.
"There's my girl." He finally sighed. My girl. I could feel my heart melting in my chest. He leaned his forehead against mine as he caressed my cheek, pulling me back into another long series of tender kisses. "I missed you so much."
I could feel Josh's eyes on me, burning a hole in the back of my head as he made his way over.
"Anyone else here?" He asked, looking around.
"Um.. no, I.. I told them I'd come and pick you guys up." Jake said, now handing me the flowers, wrapping his arm around me as he lead us back out to the van.
"Where are we going tonight?" Josh asked, hopping into the backseat. I felt bad, now knowing that he just assumed that Jake and I would be alone together in the front.
"Not too far, actually." He said, now reaching over for my hand. My heart jumped as I felt him grab it, tightly intertwining our fingers as he pulled my hand up to his lips, kissing the top of it. "But.. we do get the hotel tonight, so that's nice." I felt my face get hot again as he smirked over at me.
"H-how many rooms do you get?" I asked. His smile grew.
"Technically one, but.. I got us our own."
I knew what he was expecting now that we could finally be alone, but.. after everything with Josh, that was honestly the last thing on my mind. If anything, at least we'd have some privacy while we talked. But knowing him, I wouldn't be surprised if he somehow managed to get me to cave into.. something else. I knew that all it took was one kiss for my head to start to spin, and by then I almost always lost control.
I guess I just couldn't let anything happen between us.
As we pulled up to the venue, Josh started gathering our bags together, stopping before opening the back door.
"You coming?" He asked.
"We'll be right in." Jake said. "Just.. give us a minute." Josh turned to look at me, his eyes sad, as if begging me to follow him.
"I'll be right there." I assured him, forcing a smile. He nodded, holding his stare on me for a moment before shutting the door behind him.
Jake watched him as he made his way in before turning back to face me.
"The flowers are beautiful." I said softly, inspecting them closely; the perfect shade of pink, almost identical to the bouquet that I had gotten Josh the morning after Jake had kissed me.
"You deserve them." He said. "You deserve.. everything, Jaime, and I'm sorry I haven't given it to you. But I will, I promise. If you can just.. be patient with me. I've never done this, and I just want to get it right." I nodded, holding my stare on him. I had never seen that look from him before. It was sad and sincere. I knew he meant it.
But Josh had never done this either.
And he didn't need patience from me.
He was ready now.
And so was I.

blacklight
So here’s the deal: my name is Kihri Vyas, and I’m dead. (That’s not really important, it happened ages ago, but it’s good to have the context.) Anyway, me and my sister Zarah (the only person who can see or hear me) have basically been on our own since I kicked the bucket, surviving on the streets of Kaila and sort of just being miserable and bored and tired a lot. I mean, I haven’t, cause I’m dead, but she has. It sucks, but that’s business as usual for us. What isn’t B-A-U is that a bunch of other homeless folks have been disappearing in the last few months, and some of them have been turning up with anatomically-improbable, but extraordinary fatal, injuries. Cops don’t give a shit, of course, and my sister’s a boneheaded bleeding heart, so we’ve been investigating them ourselves. And, well, we’ve found a bunch of weird shit. Stuff made of solid light, ghost attack dogs, people glowing black, somehow, some kind of living robot… Actually, you know what? It’s probably easier if you see for yourself. blacklight is a modern fantasy story it's not about being gay but rest assured its gay as fuck nevertheless it updates fridays at 2 p.m. AEST on its own site at https://spectrochroma.wordpress.com/ Chapters are uploaded here one week after they finish on the main site.
