《Greta Van Fleet Imagines》Home For Christmas (Josh Kiszka)

You sat on the window seat, hot chocolate in hand. The Christmas tree is your only source of light. You took a sip of your drink and stared outside for the hundredth time that night. All you wanted to see were the headlights of the black SUV you knew too well. Instead, all you saw were the few houses that still had their Christmas lights on along with the dim street lamps.
The snow had gotten heavier from when it first started hours ago. This storm was supposed to miss your town. The weathermen kept promising it would hit further south. But they were wrong. They were always wrong.
Josh promised he would be home before the storm got too severe. But you knew it was too late for that. Your road was covered, although a plow truck had already been by three times. You figured there had to be five inches out there, and it showed no signs of stopping anytime soon.
You told him over, and over that, he should have taken an earlier flight or at least stay the night at the hotel next to the airport.
"Relax, Y/N. It's only a few hours from the airport to home." You heard the car door open and then slammed shut, signaling that there was no changing his mind.
"I still don't say this is a good idea. They're calling for well over a foot of snow." You sighed. As much as you wanted Josh home for Christmas, you would wait if it meant having him home in one piece.
"It will be fine. It's barely flurrying now. I'll see you in a few hours, love." Josh reassured you.
"Alright. I love you. Please be safe." Your voice grew softer with each word you spoke.
"I always am."

You haven't spoken to Josh since your phone call, and that was nearly five hours ago. It usually only takes two hours to get home from the airport. You've driven that route many times before, and you know it like the back of your hand. You couldn't help but think of the worst possible scenario.
Sighing, you set down your drink and stood up. You ran a hand through your hair as you began pacing up and down the hallway. Your first initial thought was to call Josh and make sure everything was okay. But you were worried that it would distract him. The roads didn't look safe now, and the last thing you needed was for Josh to be searching for his phone. You were sure if he pulled into a hotel for the night, he would call.
You continued to walk the length of the small hallway in silence. You would most definitely be able to hear a pin drop against the hardwood floor if it wasn't for the ticking of the clock on the wall. Watching the minute hand move closer to a new hour only increased your anxiety. Everyone else in the house had gone to bed hours ago, but there was no way you'd be able to sleep right now.
At this point, you didn't care if your whole family forgot about Christmas. All you wanted was to see Josh pull into the driveway so you can run out there a wrap your arms around him. You could only imagine what he was thinking about right now.
You froze in your spot, body tensing, as you noticed a set of headlights making their way down the road. You mentally prayed that they would slow down and turn into your driveway. But you were filled with disappointment when you realized it was just the plow truck passing by for the fourth time that night.

By now, it was getting late, and you were growing tired. You promised yourself, though, that you wouldn't sleep until you knew your boyfriend was home safe. You made your way back to the window seat, wrapping yourself in a blanket. Once you were seated, you adjusted one of the decorative pillows and laid your head on it. In the back of your mind, you could hear your mom having a fit because you were ruining her nice pillows. But at this point, you could care less. Eventually, you fell asleep waiting by the window.
You weren't really sure how long you were out before you were blinded awake. The headlights reflected off the glass and right into your eyes. You shot up praying that it wasn't the plow truck again. This time your prayers were answered. The vehicle slowed down before turning and making its way down your driveway.
You could barely get your body to move fast enough. Jumping out of your seat, you raced downstairs, almost sliding on your socked feet. You threw on the first pair of shoes you saw before unlocking the door and running out to Josh. He was barely out of the car when you wrapped your arms around his waist, almost knocking him down in the snow.
"Hey, Y/N. What are you still doing up? It's late." Josh questioned as he turned around to face you.
"I was too anxious, so I waited up for you. I wanted to call, but I didn't want to distract you when there's almost no visibility." You explained.
Josh leaned down and placed a kiss on your nose. "No, that's my fault. I should have called or listened to you. I didn't think it would pick up as quickly as it did, but I was wrong."
"How did you get home? The roads look awful."
"The roads are terrible. I started out on the highway and stayed on there for maybe an hour. But then there was an accident, so I sat in traffic for a while. Once I was able to get off the highway, I had to take back roads home, which are no better than the main ones." Josh explained his journey.
You wrapped your arms around yourself. When you saw Josh pull into the driveway, you didn't even think about how cold it is outside. You forgot to grab your jacket, and you were starting to regret that now.
"Come on. Let's go inside. You look freezing." Josh opened the back door and grabbed his suitcase off the seat.
You quietly opened the front door and turned on the downstairs light. "Everyone else is asleep, so we have to be quiet." You whispered.
"That's okay. I'm pretty tired, anyway." Josh yawned.
Quietly, the two of you made your way upstairs to your bedroom. Once you were both inside and the door was shut, Josh unzipped his suitcase, pulling out a pair of pajamas. He quickly changed before joining you on the bed.
"I'm sorry I didn't have time to get you a gift." You could hear the sadness in his voice.
"I got my gift the minute I saw you pull up in the driveway. Nothing else could compare to having you home after so many months." You rested your head on his chest as you spoke. You could feel your eyes growing heavy.
Josh placed a kiss on the top of your head. "Merry Christmas, Y/N."
