If he could breathe.. that meant he was alive.. right?
Was he alive? Was he breathing? He couldn't tell.. everything around him was dark..
His eyes were closed.. and no matter how many times he told them to open them they wouldn't open.. so maybe he wasn't alive? Maybe it wasn't his eyes. Maybe he actually was dead.
He couldn't breathe each breath he took.. only because he couldn't if he was taking a breath or not.
Maybe his eyes were opened.. Maybe he was just blind to the world around him.
If he was in the world.. he still couldn't decipher that mystery.
Though maybe he wouldn't ever figure out the mystery.. for no matter where he was, he could feel the deceit bouncing off the darkness.. he was surrounded.. by nothing.. nothing but lies that didn't hold any meaning.
Nothing held meaning.
Maybe that's why he was just sitting in darkness.. maybe it wasn't his eyes that wouldn't open.. maybe that was another lie..
Maybe everything was a lie.
Maybe he a lie. A figment of his own imagination.
Maybe it is a dream but.. he hasn't had dreams since he was young.. but he always had nightmares but this felt different.. instead of the childhood fears.. or overwhelming feeling of dread and self disappointment.. it felt empty.. he was aware of everything yet nothing. He could feel the deceitful ways of the darkness but that was it.
It was just him and lies that were beyond him.
So with no thoughts and no regrets... he held the breaths that he wasn't sure he was taking.. just to see if everything around was real..
And as he held it.. he soon felt pain in what he believed was his own chest.
Maybe he could breathe and he couldn't feel it... besides the pain.. but maybe it was just guilt that the deceit had given to him.
