《Winter Wonderland》The Schemer of the Scalding Sands: part 15

"Yes!" Kalim cheered. "I think I managed to memorize a spell I was having trouble with!"
"....." Jamil could only narrow his eyes in irritation as Avartia grinned wickedly.
"Proper exercise is critical to honing a more efficient mind for study," Azul said. Everyone was now in their clothes and outside.
"However, overstraining yourself will have an adverse effect" Y/n warned.
"Mock battles are a good way to exercise while venting stress" Jade informed.
"Aha ha!" Floyd laughed. "I'm in the mood to cut loose, so count me in! Hmm, who to fight?"
"Fufu" Y/n chuckled, standing in the fountain. "Split into teams of five and let the melee begin!" she ordered, blowing in her whistle.
"Aha ha!" Kalim laughed brightly. "Moch battles really are fun. And they're a great way to gauge the results of your training,"
"Yes, Housewarden!"
Jamil let out an angry sigh.
"There's one main reason we've grown as we have," Azul said, leading everyone to the cafeteria while holding onto Y/n's hand, much to Jamil's dismay. "And what would be...our diet, of course! It's about getting the nutrients you need...not too many and not too few. This helps your afternoon performance,"
"Cooking is an essential life skill for gaining an understanding of food and developing a healthy diet" Jade added.
"Mhm. Indeed. Make sure not to eat too many unhealthy foods, even if you stay in shape" Y/n also added.
"Maybe I should start cooking every now and then..." Kalim mumbled to himself. "I wouldn't have to worry about poison if I prepared meals myself"
"Don't. You'll injure yourself again" Jamil said.
"Don't worry about that. As long as Kalim follows safety rules, he should be fine" Yuuna said, smiling a bit.
"Okay, Sea Otter" Floyd said, turning to Kalim, pulling him away from Jamil's distracting words. "You're in charge of stirrin' the pot,"
"Keep an eye on that soup and make sure it doesn't boil over, would you?" Jade instructed.
"Seems easy enough, no?" Y/n smirked.
"Sure thing!" Kalim smiled brightly. "Glad to help,"
"All right, everyone. Let's make this meal to remember" Jade commanded.
"Yes, sir!"
"Okay, I'm going to make the best-tasting soup ever!" Kalim cheered.
"I worry about having you cook on your own" Jamil sweatdropped. "I'll help."
"No need to fret, Jamil" Azul assured. "We will aid him,"
"You just sit back and relax" Jade said.
"Fine..." Jamil sighed.
"If you want, you can help me for a bit. Think of it as some sort of bonding" Y/n smiled kindly. Jamil blushed a bit and complied.
"So...due to how the warm feelings keep coming when I'm around you...am I one of your soulmates as well" Jamil asked, smiling.
"Indeed. Just think about what's going on in front of you...no need to constantly worry for Kalim, he's in good hands with my Octopus" Y/n grinned.
Jamil chuckled lowly, making sure Azul didn't here either. "Alright. As you wish, my Jasmine flower" he smiled, happy that he finally had some one-on-one time with her. He can worry about Azul and his Eels later.
"Scading Sands cuisine is delicious. Perhaps we should add some to our menu. Though it might be difficult to procure ingredients and learn to cook them properly" Azul said.
"I'll help with that" Kalim offered. "I'd love it if everyone knew how great our food is. I can get all the spices and have one of my family's chefs comes to instruct you"

"That would be grand! Let's work out the wording of the contract later" Azul beamed.
Yuuna smiled. "They sure are getting along" she muttered quietly.
"Hmm? Did you say something, Yuu-chan?" Kalim asked, turning towards Yuuna.
Yuuna then waved her hands in a 'no' motion. "Need to worry. Let's just focus on the food"
"Okay!" Kalim smiled, turning his attention back to stir"
"Nice one, Sea Otter" Floyd praised. "You're better at this than I expected"
"Ha ha! You think so?" Kalim laughed. "I guess you never know until you try. Okay, it's almost done. Just a bit more!"
"......." Jamil watched quietly.
"Done!" Kalim announced. "Wow, even I can make a simple soup, huh? Aha ha!"
"All you did was stir the pot..." Jamil said before letting out a sigh.
"Hey, you have something on your nose, Jasmine," Jamil said, turning towards Y/n, who actually didn't have anything on her nose.
"huh? But there's nothin- eh?" Y/n yelped when Jamil put whip creamed on her nose.
"It's right there, Jasmine," Jamil chuckled.
Y/n let out a pout before licking the whipped cream off her nose with her dragon tongue. "Hmph! Jokes on you, you also have some cream on your nose"
"eh?" Jamil also yelped in surprise when Y/n spattered whip cream on his nose. He grew quiet before bursting out laughing, with Y/n following.
Azul blushed a bit on how Y/n looked when she had cream on her nose. But he let out a scowl when she was having fun with Jamil without HIM.
"Ooooh~ It's Azul perhaps jealous?" Floyd teased.
"My my, how unlike him" Jade joined in on the teasing.
"Did you perhaps eat a Jellyfish? Is that why you are jelly?" Yuuna asked innocently.
Azul burst in 50 shades of gre- I mean red. RED. "Shut up!" he shouted, covering his blushy face.
The Leech twins chuckled a bit while Yuuna and Grim laughed as well.
"Ahhh, that was fantastic," Kalim said happily.
"Pausing after a meal to take a light walk stimulates the brain and improves your study efficiency in the afternoon" Azul suggests.
"You know a lot about this stuff, Azul" Kalim praised. "And here I was just pushing for frantic hard work with no real direction. I think I've put my students in an unfair position" he sighed. "You're a sophomore housewarden just like me, but I'm woefully behind"
"Everyone makes mistakes, Kalim" Y/n assured. "No mortal is perfect after all"
"Our vacation's only half over" Azul added. "There's still room to make up for lost time"
"With a training camp this helpful, staying at school doesn't sound so bad" Kareem said.
"Yeah, agreed. The only chance we get to spend time with you guys is when we're at school" Omar said, agreeing with Kareem.
"It feels like I'm waking up from a nightmare..." Salman sighed in relief, grinning.
Jamil flinched in surprise. "....!"
"Scarabia's got a lot of people got as astrology and ancient incantations just as well as the Permafrost citizens, right?" Azul asked.
"Indeed. Frostians were the ones who taught the people of the Scalding Sands way back before even I was born" Y/n smiled.
"As they tell it here, the Sorcerer of the Sands specialized in divination, and this dorm is populated by students who embody his spirit" Kalim explained. "I'm not good at either thing myself, though. Aha ha!"
"I hear the Sorcerer of the Sands successfully utilized a man-made device for fortune-telling that required natural energy" Azul said. "The study of astrology took shape relatively early when compared to other fields of magic...He was so far ahead of his time. I suppose his successes played a major role in that"

"Ooh...The great Eight never fail to impress!" Kalim said, looking awestruck.
"...." Jamil clenched his teeth, scowling a little.
"Oh, it's almost three o'clock. Let's get in a bit more studying, then take a break" Y/n reminded.
"Shall I prepare some tea?" asked Jade who offered his assistance.
"No, I'll handle it," Azul said. "I'm the farthest along with my assignment, after all"
"Allow me to help" Jamil stood up.
"I'd appreciate that" Azul smiled. "Shall we be off, Jamil?"
Y/n was grew suspicious as she watched the two boys walk off. She turned to Yuuna who was almost done with her work before closing her teacher's textbook. "I'll be right back. I need to get some ice cream" she informed.
Yuuna looked up at Y/n and smiled. "Alright"
Y/n waved goodbye as she used magic to conceal her aura, and secretly followed Azul and Jamil. Without realizing how Yuuna heard the sound of more ink spilling. 'please, be careful' she prayed.
Scarabia Dorm- Hallway
"The students' completion rate for these assignments made by Angelfish is up fifteen percent from yesterday. Those are some statistically results" Azul grinned. "Yuuna, Grim, and angelfish told me that Kalim was going through drastic mood swings...But he's been acting pretty calm since we arrived. Isn't it nice that Kalim's regained the faith of Scarabia's students?" he asked.
"...No. No, it isn't" Jamil muttered.
But it seemed that Azul heard. "It's not?"
"No offense, but I can't let you people stay in Scarabia any longer," Jamil said. "It's time you went back under the sea...and away from my Jasmine", he muttered the last part.
"Pardon? Where did this come from, Jamil" Azul asked, feeling concerned. "Have I done something to offend you?"
"You really don't get it?" Jamil said before changing his expression. "Does the sad look on my face mean nothing to you?"
"What..." Azul's eyes widen, accidentally locking into Jamil's, causing Avaritia to laugh.
"...You made eye contact with me. Fool" Jamil smirked. "The one behold is your master. When I ask you a question, you will answer. When I give you a command, you will assent. " he said, activating his magic.
"What?!" Azul said before wincing in pain, having his hands come up to clench his head. "Gh...My head! Rgh..."
Y/n, who was behind a nearby, placed a hand over her mouth. 'seeing this part in person...it's scarier than watching it from a screen' she thought in her head.
'We need to come up with a plan, soon!' Kusanali advised.
"The pain will last as long as you resist. My Jasmine flower knows that better than anyone" Jamil smirked. "The Sooner you give in and submit, the easier it will be for you. Go on, I'm waiting"
"Rrrgh...Urgh..." Azul whimpered, visibly struggling to fight against Jamil, as Y/n's heart ached. She felt bad for not stopping this, but it was time yet.
"Azul, who is your master?" Jamil asked, looking into Azul's eyes with a grin.
"My master is..." Azul began to turn into a monotone. "...you, O mighty Jamil. I await your command, Master"
"Heh...Ha ha...Ha ha ha ha ha!" Jamil laughed. "You thought I was a mediocre magician, but you were sorely mistaken- an embarrassing misjudgment for the housewarden of Octavinelle." he taunted. "But really...Because of you, my plans for my Jasmine flower and carefully laid plans for Scarabia have gone up in smoke. All I needed was a little more nudging from the Amaryllis visitors, and the students would have kicked Kalim out. It was my way of getting Kalim ejected from his position without getting my own hands dirty. Do you have any idea how much painstaking effort I put into laying the groundwork for that?" he growled. "What's worst...was that you were getting Y/n all to yourself...and not even bother to share with me, her other soulmate!" Jamil spat. "I makes me sick to see all your lips and hands around her pure body!"
Jamil calmed himself down a bit, as Avaritia grew darker. "Azul. You returned all your contractually stolen powers back to their original owners recently, right?"
"Yes, Master" Azul replied in a monotone, blankly staring at Jamil with a red hue in his eyes.
"Tch. So much for using you as my own personal genie of the Lamp," Jamil scoffed. "Your signature spell is quite a valuable asset...But it would be hard to keep controlled long-term, isn't that right, Y/n?" Jamil smiled.
Y/n flinched in surprise as she walked in Jamil's view. "How did you sense my presence? I kept myself hidden"
"I'm pretty sure you know who Avaritia is, do you?" Jamil smirked when Y/n's stiffen. "He was the one who told me that you were there"
"I see..." Y/n then walked next to a blank Azul and pointed to Avaritia who grinned. "As you can see, I'm here to stop your plans"
Jamil laughed a bit. "With this power, I can even free you, my Jasmine flower"
"From what?" Y/n perked an eyebrow.
Jamil walked closer, lifting her chin up to have Y/n look directly into his eyes. "I can free you from your despair, the sorrow and pain of losing your twin sister," Jamil said. Y/n widen her eyes in shock
"H-how do you know about her..." Y/n asked.
Jamil let out a sympathetic smile as he hugged her. "I know information that I should know about you. Including what happened 500 years ago. If you team up with me, I'll aid you in freeing you from your pain." he then let out a grin. "The one behold is your master who will relieve your pain. Snake Charmer"
Y/n's eyes immediately turned red. Jamil grinned wickedly at how easy it was to hypostasis her, especially due to her high magic resistance. "It seems, you were right, Avaritia. Y/n is more vulnerable when I'm talking about the subject of her sister..." he mumbled.
"Sir" Azul called out. "I remember the contents of the contracts,"
Jamil pulled a controlled Y/n closer to his chest, who had a blank stare, her eyes becoming even duller. "What?" he questioned.
"I remember all the secrets of people I made contracts with. Their troubles. Their weaknesses. Their desires" Azul continued.
"What a twisted collection" Jamil scowled. "I can see I made the right call of not making friends with you, even if we share the same soulmate. Does this intellectual cache of yours include Headmaster Dire Crowley's secrets?" he asked, letting let out a grin.
"Of course, Master" Azul replied. "I know one thing he would never want others to learn"
"Hah...ha ha ha...That's it. That's it!" Jamil smirked. "It's all going to work out! You really are my genie of the lamp, Azul!"
"Do you wish to know the headmaster's secret?" Azul asked.
"Oh, absolutely. Once I have the headmaster's weakness in my grasp, I'll finally be free with Y/n" Jamil smiled brightly. "I'll kick Kalim out of school and become Housewarden myself! Even Jasmine will be MINE and MINE ALONE!"
"And there we have it" a voice called out.
"?!" Jamil flinched and looked to the voice, only to see Yuuna, who looked betrayed for being used, and worried for Y/n state, along with Grim, the twins.
