《Winter Wonderland》A Beautiful Tyrant: part 28

"Ara ara~ You sure know how to make a fabulous entrance, Rook Hunt~" Y/n chuckled.
"Ah! Reine du givre!" Rook beamed, gently grabbed Y/n's hand, and kissed the back of it. After all, it's part of Royal/Imperial etiquette for noble men to greet a lady that way, especially if they have a high status. Such as a Monarch of a country like Y/n. "It's a pleasure to see your icy beauty once more"
Ace immediately placed a hand over his chest as he looked at the Vice Housewarden with a frightened look. "I just about had a heart attack!" he panted. His heart was racing but it began to settle so he can calm down.
"Who jumps out from behind people like that?!" Deuce asked in shock. Yuuna just blinked in surprise at his sudden appearance, but it seemed Y/n thought it was normal.
"Hah hah hah!" Rook chuckled. "Did I startle you? Pardonne-moi. I'm simply too accustomed to concealing my presence as I make my approach." he explained. "But as usual, I can't hide my aura from a Levia-fae's sharp senses. I am Rook hunt, le Chasseur d'Amour. My life's work is to seek out beauty and support it. Pleased to make your acquaintance." he winked at Yuuna.
"Tch" Leona grew a bit more irritated. "Speak of the weirdo and he shall appear," he said, tugging Y/n closer to his side.
"Good day, Roi des Lions." Rook greeted with a grin. "But what is this? Monsieur Dent-de-Lion does not appear to be accompanying you for your lunch break.
"He ain't with me twenty-four seven." Leona snapped. "Now get lost, and take these herbivores with you."
"Who's Monsieur, uhh...Dandelion?" questioned Deuce.
" Is it who I think it is?" Yuuna asked, having a cheeky expression
"Wait, since when did you start hanging around Rook?" Ace asked, not that happy that HIS best friend is hanging out with some weirdo.
"W-well...sometimes Y/n lets me come with her to Pomefiore dorm to hang around Vil-senpai" Yuuna admitted. "I met Rook there, and we've been buddies ever since"

"Heh Heh Heh" Rook chuckled once again. "Who your thinking, Reine de la Lumiere. That would of course refer to the Roi des Lions' confidante, Ruggie."
"Why do you call him that?" asked Grim. "'Cause he's got a poofy head of yellow hair?"
"Non, non. It's for another reason." Rook clarified. "It happened last spring...Just as the first beautiful signs of the season began blooming around campus."
Last year- Sports Field
Ruggie walked around the sports field, bending down to inspect a certain plant that gave him his nickname. "Great, there's plenty of 'em here. Not to pick 'em before they turn into seedheads."
"Bonjour, Monsieur!" Rook appeared behind the Hyena.
"Whoa!" Ruggie jumped. "What do you want, buddy?!"
"I beg your pardon for the interruption." Rook began. "I am Rook Hunt, of Pomefiore. You were doing something fascinating, and I just had to drop by."
Ruggie narrowed his eyes a bit. "I'm literally just picking dandelions, but okay."
"To what end are you gathering so many?" Rook asked.
"Isn't it obvious?" Ruggie asked like it was the obvious thing in the world. "I'm gonna eat 'em."
"What?!" Rook's eyes widen in surprise, not hiding his flabbergasted expression.
"You can make them in salads, saute them, use them for tea..." Ruggie began. (Don't forget about wine. Venti loves his dandelion wine.) "And more to the point, you can find 'em anywhere and pick 'em for free! They're perfect for a broke joke like me. Not that you probably have any idea what it's like to be penniless. My food budget's tight his month, so I've gotta subsist on something/ On that note, no time for chitchat. Free to move on and get out of my hair now."
"And there you have it." Rook said. "I was struck by his willingness to sustain himself on roadside weeds, and I've respected him more ever since. Thus, I call him Monsieur Dent-de-Lion."
"Awww" Y/n smiled.
"That's such a cute nickname" Yuuna giggled.
"Dude, Ruggie eats DANDELIONS?!" Ace asked, looking just as surprised as Rook did when he found that out. "How is that respectable?!"

"He really will eat anything as long as it's not rotten, huh?" Leona asked himself. "He better not have fed me those things..."
"Non, non. They're not poisonous. And one must never be a picky eater, Roi des Lions."
"I'll eat anything as long as it smells good," Y/n said, understanding a bit.
"You call eating Ghost Pepper noodles with spicy kimchi good?!" exclaimed Ace. (Yeah! We have a high spice tolerance! We can complete the ghost pepper chip or noodles without being in so much pain)
"How can you eat something as spicy, [nickname]? Isn't a ghost pepper capable of killing someone from the level of spice?" Yuuna asked. (Yes. A Ghost Pepper can kill you. I did my research)
"It's not that spicy. It has the same spice level as a jalapeno" Y/n said.
"NO IT DOES NOT!" Ace, Deuce, and Yuuna exclaimed. They were scared at her high spice tolerance.
"Okay, but how do they taste?" Grim asked. He wanted to try the dandelions. "I gotta try me some later!"
"How many times do we have to tell you not to eat off the ground?" asked Deuce.
"You're going to eat something poisonous one of these days" Yuuna added.
"Derp." Ace gasped. "You almost distracted us from what we came to talk about. Can we get back to the audition now?"
"Oh, right!" Deuce's eyes widen in realization. "Hunt, we'd like to apply for the SDC."
"Ah! Forgive me- I have a troublesome penchant for derailing conversation." Rook apologized. "I believe the two of you belong to Heartslabyul? Ace Trappola, #25 in Class 1-A, human, 172 centimeters tall...Deuce Spade, #24 in Class 1-A, human, 173 centimeters tall..." he then turned to the trio.
"And here we have Amaryllis Dorm members Y/n Chione, half phoenix, half Levia-fae, 160 centimeters tall...Yuuna Enma, human, 158 centimeters tall, and Grim, monster, 70 centimeters tall."
"H-how do you know our class and student numbers?!" Deuce asked, staring at the weird student with wide eyes.
"For the matter, how do you know our exact heights down to the flippin' centimeter?!" asked Ace.
"Tell me again why you hang around him a lot?" Y/n asked Yuuna.
"Ehehehe..." Yuuna giggled nervously.
"Heh heh heh. As a hunter, I make it a point to memorize the species and height of every student on campus" Rook explained. "It wouldn't do to be underprepared, would it?"
"Underprepared for WHAT?" Yuuna asked.
'This school has so many weird people...'
'I was just about to ask'
"Since you have informed me of your intent, you will need to fill out any paperwork." Rook smiled. "The audition will be held in the Pomefiore ballroom after school, three days hence. Do be sure to save the date."
"Yes, sir" Ace, Deuce, and Grim nodded.
Rook then turned to Y/n with a grin. "Make to be there ahead of time, dear Manager."
"Of course." Y/n nodded.
"Hey, are you guys done crowdin' around my seat yet?" Leona asked. "Get outta my hair already."
"Say, Leona!" Rook turned his attention to the lion. "How would you like to put in an appearance at the SDC auditions? You have amply athletic ability, and your physique would add an extra flair to your dancing. Not to mention your wonderful, resounding voice. I've never seen a lion sing in the Sunset Savanna, but I've no doubt it would be an incredible sight to behold."
"I wouldn't be caught dead in that kids' show." Leona cringed at the suggestion. "Besides, isn't that nag Vil gonna be there? You can count me a hundred and ten percent out."
"But picture this: Y/n with her icy beauty, Vil with his cosmopolitan appeal, and Leona with his rugged charisma..." Rook said. "If you two danced and sang together with Y/n, it would be a feast for the senses! Would be a battle of flavors most disparate! Ahhh, how very tres bien!"
"Tch. You don't care one iota what other people have to say, do you?" Leona grumbled

A Castle in a Teacup
One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…
