"Y/n?"

Y/n blinks slowly and lifts her head off the floor. The first thing she sees is Maki kneeling over her.

"Oh.. Maki.. how did you get in here?" She says tiredly

"I rung the doorbell and you didn't answer, so I just came in. Something.. might have happened."

Y/n knows what she's talking about. The killing game. The time limit ends tomorrow night.. deep down, Y/n is sort of hoping a murder happens.

"Yeah.. sorry.. I was just asleep.."

"Why were you sleeping on the floor?"

Y/n shrugs and smiles, she stands up and brushes herself off. "I guess we should get some breakfast."

"...You might want to skip it today. Miu's in the dining hall. Her research lab just opened and she's weirder than usual."

"Oh.. I'm still hungry though. Can we get something from the warehouse quickly?"

Maki nods, and they both head to the warehouse.

They look around the shelves for something edible for quite a while.

"I found some energy bars. Is this enough?" Maki holds up a box of nutrition bars

"Perfect. We should eat them outside, it's nicer out there."

Maki just silently follows Y/n out to the courtyard, they sit down on one of the bench things there and start to eat the energy bars. They taste disgusting, but they both continue eating.

"Maki.. are we friends?" Y/n asks out of the blue

"What?"

"We've been hanging out quite a lot.. but I remember you saying you were gonna be watching me. Are you just sticking around me to make sure I don't do anything dodgy?"

"..You aren't exactly.. the worst person to be around. I'm still extremely suspicious of you, so I do want to keep an eye on you, but it's not as much of a chore as I thought it would be."

Y/n honestly can't tell what she's trying to say. "I think I'll just take that as a compliment." She chuckles

"Hey guys! Mind if I join?" Kaito walks up to the two girls.

"Yes. We do mind. Leave us alone." Maki says harshly

"..She doesn't mean that." Y/n says.

"Haha, good cop bad cop, eh? Anyway, I'm making a plan for tomorrow. I'm trying to gather people that can fight. And you seem like you can fight.!" He looks towards Maki.

"It's no use.. the Exisals will just kill us."

"Maki, you have to at least try.. I'm sure you can do it." Y/n smiles

"Yeah! Exactly! Well.. I'll ask again tomorrow when it's time. See you later!" Kaito waves and walks off.

Nighttime comes by like a flash. Once again, Y/n goes to her dorm after saying goodnight to Maki.

This'll be her last time ever going to sleep. How.. weird. That's hardly the word to describe it.

For once the morning announcement actually wakes her up, it's her last day of living, she wants to make the most of it, but there's barely anything to do.

She gets up and goes straight to the dining hall, where she walks in on Ryoma and Rantaro arguing.

"Oh, Y/n, perfect timing. You need to help me talk some sense into Ryoma." Rantaro says

"I was just making a suggestion, so more people can survive.."

"What? Do you have a plan?"

"Kill me. The time limit runs out tonight. Don't you get it? I'm giving you guys my life. I don't have a reason to live anymore."

"None of us are going to kill you! We either all escape or none of us do. We all promised we would get out together!" Y/n says

"Do you have a better plan? My life doesn't even matter, it doesn't matter if I die, and it'll save everyone else."

"..."

"There's no need for that. Because I'm going to end the killing game myself." Rantaro says

"Can you even accomplish such a feat?" Korekiyo says

"I wouldn't be saying this if I didn't think I could."

"You do realise the time limit ends tonight? What could you possibly do?" Kirumi asks.

"Well.. I can't actually tell you that. If I could, this would make it a whole lot easier." He chuckles

"What do you mean?" Ryoma says

"It's just like I said. I'm going to end this killing game, once and for all. So don't do anything unnecessary, alright?"

"..Hmph. I take back my suggestion. Do whatever you wants Wether you guys live or die isn't my issue." Ryoma leaves the dining hall

"Jeez.. I hope that calmed him down."

"Rantaro.. are you planning something to do with.. you know what?" Y/n asks

"..Yeah. I'm not sure what to do with it, but It's gonna involve that. Can I speak to you outside for a second?"

Y/n nods and follows him out.

"What is it?"

"The time limit ends tonight. I'm predicting that someone is gonna take this into their own hands. Probably the mastermind.. what's the use of a killing game if it ends so early?"

"..What do you mean?"

"I mean they'll be coming for one of us, we know too much."

"..."

"You don't need to worry though. You'll be fine, and also, just before the time limit ends, make sure you're always near people. And stay away from the library. Got it?"

"..Okay. I will. But you'll be alright? I can help if you wan-"

"No. Don't. It's too dangerous, you're a lot smarter than me, so you should take extra caution."

"..Right. Just.. don't forget to be safe yourself. There's still a lot I need your help figuring out."

"Of course. Can't go getting myself killed first.. that'd be pretty embarrassing." He chuckles, and Y/n joins in laughing a bit too.

Then, they both go back into the dining hall.

"Do you two have a plan?" Kirumi asks

"Well, he does. He was just telling me to not get involved." Y/n points to Rantaro next to her with her thumb.

"I will pray to Atua for your success." Angie says. "But if you're lying, He will punish you for 3 centuries to come."

"That's.. quite the threat. I should get going. Good luck everyone. And Y/n.. don't do anything stupid." He laughs a bit and nudges her on the arm, then leaves the room.

"What did you mean by 'you know what'? Do you.. know something in particular that you think is related to the mastermind?" Kirumi says

"..I told Rantaro I wouldn't tell anyone. I'm sorry.." Y/n mumbles

"That makes me much more intrigued. I suppose you won't be telling us anytime soon." Korekiyo says

"Again.. sorry. I promise it's not that important. I just said I wouldn't say.. and I don't like breaking promises."

Y/n excuses herself and leaves the awkward situation.

She walks down the corridor aimlessly. She has nothing to be doing, just.. waiting for tonight.

"Y/n, I've been looking everywhere for you."

She turns around and sees Maki walking towards her, she smiles warmly.

"Hey there. I was just taking a walk. Do you want to join?"

"..Sure."

"I was thinking of checking the library.. you know.. because of the.. yeah."

"That seems fair. Now would be a good time to be doing whatever there."

They make their way down to the library, but before they go down the stairs, they get stopped.

"Hey.. what are you guys doing?" Kaede comes out of the classroom next door.

"We were getting bored, so we decided to find some books to read." Maki says, Y/n even believed her for a second

"Oh! I see. You guys have fun." She whispers something to Shuichi behind her. Y/n and Maki continue down to the library.

They walk in and go straight to the hidden door, Y/n pulls it open.

"Okay.. so.. um.. what now?" Y/n asks

"Does it look like it's been used recently?" Maki asks

"I.. don't know. I'm not too good at this part."

"Then why are we down here?"

"Because.. maybe we could've found something obvious? But there's nothing here. We should just go."

"..That was useless." Maki sighs. "Whatever, come on."

She seems pretty annoyed at that.. probably because she doesn't want to waste any of her final moments.

They go back into the dining room and sit at the table, the room is empty at this point, they must have left a little after Y/n did.

Hours and hours pass. Neither of them speak much during those hours. What is there to talk about? The fact they're about to die?

Kaito and a group of others come into the dining room, him, Tenko, Angie, Himiko, Rantaro and Gonta.

"There ya are, Maki! We're getting ready to start planning on attacking Monokuma. You seem like you can fight.. so.. you in?" Kaito asks

"I told you the other day. It's no use."

"Maki, I think you should go. You have to try. What's the harm in trying, right? We're gonna die anyway." Y/n says

"..." Maki turns to Kaito. "I'll go if Y/n can come.. If I leave her alone she'll have the chance to.. do something."

"Fine by me! The more the merrier. Let's go!" He leads everyone to the basement stairs.

A loud, blasting music starts playing, a weird video also plays on the monitors, probably showing its near the time limit.

They all go in the game room.. and wait.

Kaito and Tenko leave at one point.. and soon after that.. everyone hears a scream. Then, the music stops.

"Gonta hear scream.! From library!" Gonta says

"T-Then something happened.!" Y/n panics and grabs Maki's hand, she runs out and drags Maki along too.

The group burst into the library.. and sees..

Rantaro. On the floor.. blood everywhere.

"Hmm? Is that Rantaro? What happened to him?" Angie asks

"..He's dead. And stop holding my hand." Maki says, Y/n lets go quickly.

"Whaat? He's dead? How unfortunate." Angie says very calmly

"H-How can you be so calm!?" Gonta yells

Y/n stares in horror. Rantaro.. who did this.? There was still so much to learn about him.. and now he's gone.

Everybody else rushes in after hearing the body discovery announcement.

Tsumugi screams instantly.

There's a massive panic, why wouldn't there be? There's a dead body right in front of them.

After the chaos dies down a little, Shuichi speaks up.

"Ah..! The cameras! We can check the cameras to see who did it.."

"..Cameras?" Maki asks

"Me and Kaede set up some.. um.. cameras in here to check this hidden room thing. You'll see later."

Y/n and Maki exchange a nervous glance.

The investigation begins. Monophanie stole the cameras to develop the photos, so they have to wait for a while. Y/n has no idea what to do. She finds things out from clues, not finding the actual clues.

She goes over to Rantaro's body. Is the survivor perk still on him? She reaches into his pockets for anything.. it's just his Monopad and his room key. She starts tearing up a little, but wipes it away before anyone can see. He was her friend.. just this morning they were talking and laughing, now she'll never be able to talk to him again.

Apart from that, Y/n doesn't do much. She has no idea what she should do. And plus, there's enough people already to investigate.

The announcement plays telling everyone to go to the warehouse because the photos are ready. So they all go.

Monophanie hands the developed photos to Kaede.

"Okay, let's check the front entrance ones first." She opens the envelope, there's a picture of Y/n and Maki entering. "Is this from when you guys went to go get a book earlier?"

"..Yeah." Y/n says

She continues looking through them, there's another of Maki and Y/n leaving, and everybody else entering when Rantaro's body was discovered. But no Rantaro entering.

Next she checks the ones facing the hidden door.. and there they see a picture of Y/n and Maki opening the hidden door.

"You.. two knew about the hidden door this whole time?" Kaede asks

"..." They say nothing

"It doesn't matter, does it? We should just keep looking through the photos to see who killed Rantaro." Tsumugi says

Kaede does that, the other photos show Y/n and Maki closing the hidden door, then it shows Rantaro opening it, this much be much later in the day, and then him running straight at the camera. That's it. It doesn't show any killer.

But.. it's too late. It's time for the class trial
