《Maki Harukawa x female reader ❀》12

It's probably about 3 or 4 am. Maki fell asleep hours again, but Y/n can't. She's tired but can't sleep. She's never felt like this for any sickness before. And as a kid she pretty much had every common sickness there is at one point or another.. so what is this?
'Maybe I popped a blood vessel when I was training.. what even happens when you pop a blood vessel? What even is a blood vessel? Can you pop it? I kind of want to find out now.. maybe Kokichi will be up to try.' She thinks to herself, trying to stay as quiet as possible so that she doesn't wake Maki up. She shuffles to the end of the bed and gets off, creeping to the bathroom.
She looks in the mirror.. she looks.. rough.. to say the least.
She splashes cold water on her face and tries to fix her hair. It works a little. She already missed most of training yesterday, she was so excited to train as well, so she can't miss anymore. She decides to just deal with whatever's wrong. She's never had any problems with a bad immune system or getting better from being sick, so it'll be fine.
She comes out of the bathroom, Maki is still peacefully asleep. Y/n gets back onto the bed, she knows she has no hope of getting any sleep so she just lies and leans on Maki. Maki is surprisingly very warm.
—
In the morning Maki gets up early, Y/n pretends to be asleep as she doesn't want Maki to worry.
After she hears the morning announcement, she gets up, Maki is just sitting down and waiting.
"You shouldn't rely on the morning announcement to wake you up, because then you'll start getting used to this place." Maki says
"..Um.. I guess you're right.. why didn't you just wake me up then?" Y/n yawns and gets off the bed.
"Because you're sick. You should be getting rest."
"I feel fine now. I guess I just trained too hard. I was just overreacting, don't worry about it."
"..Are you su-"
"Yes. I'm 100% sure. I feel perfectly fine."
The doorbell rings as soon as she stands up, so she goes up to it.
"Y/n! Angie is planning to do the ritual, we have to hurry and stop her! Do you think you can help?" Kaito shouts, Shuichi standing behind him
"Mhm. I'm feeling fine now, I'm happy to help."
"Also.. have you seen Maki? We went to her dorm but she didn't answer the door.." Shuichi says
"Oh, she's in here." Y/n gestures for Maki to come over, so she comes from around the side of the room which isn't visible at the door.
"Wait.. did you guys.. sleep together?" Shuichi looks a bit caught off guard
"Do you wanna die?" Maki glares at Shuichi.
"D-Die.!?" Shuichi steps back a little.
Y/n chuckles. "That's Maki for you.. we just had a sort of sleepover. I guess. Anyway, shouldn't we be stopping Angie?"
They all agree, and make their way to Angie's lab.
While walking, Kaito looks really pale and he's sweating a lot, and then he looks at Y/n.
"Y-Y/n?"
"Yeah? Are you alright?" She raises an eyebrow in confusion

"I- Um.. Y-You like conspiracy theories and stuff.. have you seen anything about ghosts.!?"
"Oh yeah, loads. My favourite paranormal conspiracy is this one about this lady who was caught on security footage looking really scared and then the guests's water started tasting all funky.. and then she was found dead in a water tank which would have been impossible for any human to op-" While she's talking, she notices Kaito looking utterly horrified. So she stops.
Maki scoffs. "Unbelievable. You act like you're not scared of anything, and you're scared of stupid ghost stories."
"S-Shut up.! I dunno man.. ever since I was a kid.. whenever people talk about ghosts.." He shudders and keeps walking.
They get to Angie's lab, and Himiko's standing there.
"Nyeh?"
"Himiko? Why are you here? Are you keeping watch.?" Shuichi asks
"That sounds like a pain.. I'm just here to check on Angie.. are you guys trying to stop the ritual again.?"
"Y-Yeah! Not because I'm scared!" Kaito says louder than he needed to.
"But it's good that you're here. She won't open the door for anyone but student council members, right?" Maki says. "So tell her to open the door."
"Nyeeeh.. that's not possible.. I've been calling out to her to ask her how the ritual went, but she hasn't answered. Both the doors are locked.. so she's definitely in there."
"I heard everything!" Kokichi seems to appear out of nowhere. "A little birdie told me it would be a good time to bust out my trick. Lock picking!"
"Huh? Lock picking?" Kaito says
"Yep! Aaaand.." Kokichi goes to the lock and puts some sort of pin in the keyhole. It clicks open pretty easily. "Ta-da!"
The group stand at the door, Shuichi is the first to go in.. to a horrific sight.
The wax effigies of all the people that have died so far and hanging from the ceiling by their legs in a circle, a golden katana stabbed into Kaede's effigy.. and Angie in the middle of it all. Dead.
The body discovery announcement plays. Everyone rushes to the art lab.
It's awful. The entire student council is distraught.
Once again.. the killing game has started.
"W-Was it really one of us that killed Angie?" Tsumugi trembles
"Of course it was. We've done this 2 times already." Maki says
"N-No.. I mean.. what if it was.. the transfer student?"
"Huh!?" Kaito gasps
"Oh, I see. You're saying that maybe the ritual worked, and the dead transfer student came back and killed Ang-" Y/n says, but is cut off by Kaito screaming in terror.
"..What? Shut up already." Maki says
"I-It's not my fault she started telling scary stories like that!"
"I'm not telling a story. We're saying that it could've actually happened." Y/n explains
"Hrn.. hrnnnghh.." Kaito starts making all sorts of weird noises. "I-I'm gonna get some air.. I-I'll leave this one to you guys.." Kaito quickly rushes out of the room, still a bit wobbly.
"..Whoops.." Y/n says
"Tch. Coward." Maki says under her breath
The investigation starts. The Monokuma file says she has an injury to the forehead and a stab wound on the back of her neck. It always has to be so violent, doesn't it?

Korekiyo suggests the idea of a seance, to talk to Angie's spirit. A few people volunteer.
"So we have four participants Kokichi, Himiko, Tenko and myself. However, The Caged Child requires five people. We are one short." Korekiyo says.
There's a little bit of silence.
"I don't mind doing it." Y/n says
Maki shoots a look at her, Y/n just shrugs a little.
"Perfect. Now we need a place to hold it."
"How about your lab?" Kokichi suggests
"No. The Caged Child requires for it to be as dark as possible. My lab has windows, so it would not be quite dark enough."
"Then what about the empty rooms? If you blow out the candles.. they'd be dark enough." Himiko says
The plan is made, Himiko also says to use the middle room. And everyone agrees.
"Very well. I will begin preparations. I would also like you four to help carry the equipment."
Y/n gives a nervous glance back at Maki. Then leaves the room with the rest of the people participating in the seance. She helps Korekiyo make the salt.. whatever it is.
"Which corner are you planning to stand at?" He asks while she's pouring the salt in different lines.
"Umm.." She looks around. "Can I stand at that one?" She points to the one closest to the door, just in case.
"Ah, I figured you would choose that one." He says and then just continues preparing.
"...What was that for?"
"I was curious."
"But why.?"
He looks at her, then silently goes back to fixing the salt. He can be really intimidating at times..
It's finally finished, and all the people doing the seance enter the room.. and Shuichi?
Shuichi says he wants to join, obviously there's too many people, but Kokichi gives up his place and says he'll just listen in from outside.
"Y/n, do you think you would mind telling Shuichi what must be completed, while I make a few last minute.. adjustments." Korekiyo says, and Y/n nods.
"Okay.. so.. um.. basically just.. whatever you do, do not disturb the salt, and memorise this song, sing it along with all of us. That's all. Make sure to remember it though."
"You seem.. pretty into this." Shuichi says
"I mean.. it's interesting, right? Contacting the dead?"
"..Sort of."
Y/n just smiles and goes to her corner of the room.
"Now all the preparations are complete, we must choose a spirit medium. It would work best with a girl.." Korekiyo says
"I wouldn't mind doing it.!" Y/n seems excited. She's clearly fascinated by ghost stuff, the opposite of Kaito.
"..I apologise, Y/n. But I'm afraid that wouldn't work. You helped make the magic circle, so you cannot be the spirit medium."
"That makes zero sense!" Tenko complains
"Does this entire ordeal make sense? Belief and truth are two very different things."
Korekiyo is being confusing once again, but nobody decides to argue with it.
Tenko ends up being the spirit medium. Y/n is still a little disappointed that she couldn't do it.. having a spirit possess you or whatever happens would be the most exciting thing that's ever happened to her.
Tenko curls up on the floor, Y/n and Shuichi lift the iron cage and place it on Tenko, Korekiyo places the white sheet, and all four of them place the dog statue.
Then go to their corners, Y/n's being the closest to the door of course.
"Now we darken the room, Y/n and Shuichi are closest to the candles, so please blow them out. Use the walls to guide you in the dark. I brought matches for when the seance is finished, and you must light the candles again. Understood?" Korekiyo looks from Y/n to Shuichi, they both nod.
Y/n stays as close to the wall as possible, then blows out the candle. It's pitch black. Absolutely nothing can be seen. Y/n starts to panic a little, but manages to get back to her corner and starts singing.
It's not.. the most pleasant of sounds.
There's a loud crashing noise, but everyone ignores it.
Then Y/n hears slight footsteps. For a second she thinks it's a ghost. Then a hand covers her mouth from behind. She tries to pull the hand off, but their grip is too tight, then they also hold her nose shut so that she can't breathe.
She starts panicking, and does everything she can to make them stop, she tries hitting them and kicking them, but it doesn't work. She starts feeling the pressure building up.. it's excruciating pain. This goes on for around an entire minute.
The song starts coming to a finish.. they take their hand away and push her on the floor. She gasps for air and starts coughing hysterically.
The song in the seance ends, and Korekiyo calls out. "Is the Caged Child Angie Yonaga?"
But there's no reply. After a little bit, Korekiyo tells Y/n and Shuichi to light the candles, but only Shuichi lights his.
"Y/n? Are you okay?" Shuichi looks at her, while she sits on the floor and leans over coughing.
"I..I'm alright.." She still struggles to even catch her breath.
"Hm? Why are you coughing?" Korekiyo asks
"I.. Um.. I don't know.." She stops coughing a little but still breathes heavier than normal.
Then she puts her hand over her mouth to cough some more, but when she looks at her palm.. she sees blood.
She's caught off guard by it, and quickly wipes it away before anyone can notice.
"Nyeh.. we still need to check on Tenko already.." Himiko says
"We shall check Tenko now, we must lift all everything off in the same order we put it." Korekiyo instructs, and everyone starts removing the things from off the cage.. but when Korekiyo moved the sheet.. blood spills out.
And then.. the second victim is.. Tenko Chabashira.
For the second time, the body discovery announcement plays. Everyone comes rushing in.
"T-Tenko.!? Seriously!?" Kaito exclaims
"Why.. did this happen.?" Tsumugi says
"Shuichi.. explain. I thought you were conducting the seance.?" Maki says
"I-I don't know.. I don't know what happened.."
"Things are finally getting heated! This is so exciting!"
"This is bad.. this is really bad Shuichi. I can't believe Tenko was killed.. and I'm too much of a chicken to help. So that's why you gotta step up, the impossible is possible.. all you gotta do is make it so!" Kaito says to Shuichi.
Then, once again, an investigation starts.

Follow along as this unlikely group of people join forces to help each other accomplish their own goals in this non-epic fantasy adventure. Fair Warning: This fiction contains many of the well-known light novel tropes, though I try to give them my own spin. If you’re tired of them by now, you might want to keep away. There are no demon lords however, nor any end-of-the-world cataclysm situation that only the MC can solve. This story is more about different people coming together and helping each other out to achieve their own goals and objectives.
