The moment Y/N announced that she was taking a two week break to visit her family, Spencer couldn’t help but feel a sense of dread. Of course he was happy that she was finally able to see her family after months but he couldn’t help but feel a bit selfish. Since the moment Y/N joined the BAU a year ago, her and Spencer had been inseparable. They did practically everything together. Everyone else could tell that there was something other than friendship visible but it remained completely unnoticed by Y/N and Spencer.
When Y/N bid goodbye to everyone, she wrapped them in a quick hug before parting with them. However once she got to Spencer, their hug lingered a little longer than it should have. Spencer’s arms were wrapped tightly around her waist while Y/N's were wrapped around his neck. With his head buried into her neck, Spencer breathed in her scent of her perfume - a scent he had always associated with Y/N. Everyone around the two shared knowing looks that went completely ignored by the two friends who were obviously in love.
When Y/N walked out of the bullpen doors, Spencer only wished that she would come back but he knew she wouldn't. Spencer hadn’t felt this way about anyone before and he had no idea why he was feeling the way he was. After all, she was only going to be gone for two weeks.
"Reid?" Derek said, snapping him out of his daydream.
"Oh, yeah?" Spencer questioned, feeling confused.
"We've landed." He replied, giving Spencer a concerned look.
Spencer looked around at the empty jet. Like Derek had said, they had landed and everyone had already left.
"Oh, I'll be out in a minute. I need to grab my things." Spencer said, leaving Derek to walk off.
Making sure he had everything before exiting the jet, Spencer couldn’t help but let his eyes lingered on the seat that is usually occupied by Y/N.
Normally when they were on the jet, he and Y/N were always within touching distance of one another. If it was a particular hard case, Y/N would always grip onto Spencer’s hand for reassurance. Spencer never knew if she realised she was doing it but he welcomed her hand regardless.
"Reid!" Derek called out.
"Coming!" Spencer shouted back before leaving the jet.

When Spencer got to his hotel room that night, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of loneliness. Luckily each member was able to have their own room so no one had to share leaving Spencer to sit by himself in the quiet room. In instances like this, Y/N would always come over to Spencer’s room or he would go over to hers to figure out more things that would help them with the case. Sometimes they lost track of time and they would spend the night in each other's rooms. That wouldn’t happen during this case.
Flicking through the case files on his own, Spencer was surprised to hear his phone begin to ring. Confused, he looked down at the caller ID considering most people who would call him were in the rooms around him. Y/N’s name filled up the small screen. Smiling to himself, Spencer answered it.
“Y/N!” He said, almost too cheery.
“Spencer!” Y/N responded with as much enthusiasm.

“I thought you would be with your family?” Spencer questioned.
“I am but they’re all asleep and you know me, I don’t sleep until at least three in the morning.” Y/N responded.
“It’s great to hear your voice.” Spencer said and as soon as the words left his mouth, he cringed at how cheesy they sounded.
“It’s great to hear your voice as well Spencer,” Y/N replied and Spencer could literally hear the smile in her voice, “Your voice is one of my favorite sounds.”
Spencer blushed at Y/N’s comment, “Really? I thought it was annoying.”
“No it isn’t, I love your voice,” Y/N said, “I love when you ramble about topics that interest you. I love when you spout out facts about the most random thing. I just love hearing your voice.”
Even though she couldn’t see it, Spencer smiled, “No one’s ever said that to me before.”
“People should say it to you more often, you deserve to hear it,” Y/N said, “So how’s the case going?”
“How did you know we were on a case?” Spencer questioned.
“Hotch called me earlier to ask my opinion about something.” Y/N responded.
“The case is going fine, it shouldn’t last longer than a few days.” Spencer replied.
“That’s good, then you can actually go home and relax.” Y/N said.
“Yeah, I suppose I can...” Spencer trailed off.
Neither of them spoke, all that was heard were their shallow breaths. Spencer knew that he should be going to sleep but he wanted to speak to Y/N for a little longer. Even if it had only been a few days since she had left, he couldn’t help but miss her terribly. He missed her voice. He missed her touch. He missed everything about her.
“I miss you.” Spencer said after a long pause.
“I miss you too, Spence, you don’t even know how much.” Y/N muttered.
“Eleven days.” Spencer said.
“I wish I only took a week off.” Y/N said.
“No you don’t, you were so excited to be spending two weeks with your family.” Spencer said.
“I know,” Y/N said, pausing for a brief moment, “But I didn’t realise how hard it is to be away from you.”
Spencer didn’t know how to respond. Of course he missed Y/N more than he could imagine but he had no idea how much she missed him. Luckily for Spencer, he didn’t have to respond.
“Anyway, I think that I’m going to let you get to sleep now since you have to be well rested to catch the unsub,” Y/N said, “I’ll talk to you tomorrow. I love you.”
Spencer didn’t get a chance to respond before she hung up the phone. Her final words ringing in his ears. I love you. The genius didn’t know if she meant it in a platonic way or a romantic way. As he brought the phone away from his ear, he shook his head. There was no way that Y/N loved him in a romantic way, their friendship was strictly platonic.
Letting his head drop down to the pillow, Spencer fell asleep, dreaming of Y/N.

The case had been solved within four days so the BAU were back on the jet ready to head home. Spencer was sitting at one end of the jet completely lost in his own world. These last four days had gone quickly due to them working a case but once they landed back in Quantico, he knew that the days would drag on.

“Kid,” Derek said, sitting down opposite Spencer, “Are you going to tell me what’s going on with you?”
Spencer’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “Nothing’s going on with me.”
“Are you sure?” Derek said, “Because ever since Y/N left to visit her family, you’ve been off. You stopped giving out random facts, you’ve been zoning out more than usual and that’s just two things.”
“I just miss Y/N.” Spencer stated.
“Yeah, we all do,” Derek said, “But no one misses her as much as you. You’ve been a completely different person since she’s been gone.”
Spencer sighed, “I don’t know why I feel like this. Whenever you or Emily take some time off work I never normally feel like this.”
“That’s because you’re in love with her.” Derek stated bluntly.
“What?” Spencer said, “I’m not in love with her.”
“Reid, for a genius, you can be stupid at times,” Derek said, “You’re in love with her, you and Y/N are the only two who don’t see it.”
“See what?”
“The glances you give towards each other. The small touches you do when you think none of us are looking. When you hug, it lasts a little too long for you two to be just friends,” Derek explained, “Also, I happened to be in the hotel room next to yours and I heard bits of your conversations with Y/N. Friends don’t talk to each other like that.”
Spencer scoffed, “You’re one to talk, you and Garcia flirt all the time.”
“But we both know that it doesn’t mean anything,” Derek said, “It’s completely different with you and Y/N.”
Spencer looked down and fiddled with his hands for a moment. He already knew that his friendship with Y/N wasn’t just a friendship but he never considered being in love with her. Every time he was around Y/N, he felt happier and he felt like he could just be himself.
“On the first night of the case Y/N called me,” Spencer spoke, “And we talked for a while and the last thing she said before she hung up was I love you. I don’t know whether she meant it in a platonic way or a romantic way.”
“Kid, she definitely meant it in a romantic way,” Derek said before sighing, “Don’t tell her that I told you this but she came to me a couple of weeks ago saying that she was confused.”
“Confused? Why was she confused?” Spencer questioned.
“She was confused about her feelings for you,” Derek said, “She said that the two of you were watching a movie at her apartment and the next thing she knew, you two were cuddled up against each other.”
“Yeah, I remember that,” Spencer said, “She invited me to her apartment for dinner and we ended up watching a movie before falling asleep on her couch. I don’t see why she was confused about her feelings, we’ve done that countless times before.”
Derek sighed, “Look kid, I know that you don’t think a woman like Y/N could ever like you, but she does. Trust me, all she ever talks about is you and I can bet that she is in love with you too.”
Spencer looked down to avoid eye contact, “What can I do about it?”
“Tell her.”
***
When they finally landed back in Quantico, Spencer headed up to the bullpen to collect a few things before going home. The entire journey home, his mind was on Y/N. From what Derek had described, he was in love with her. Spencer didn’t know what to do as he had never been in love before. He didn’t know how to even approach the topic.
When he arrived in the bullpen, Spencer was shocked to see someone sitting on top of his desk. He was even more shocked to see that it was Y/N.
“Y/N?” Spencer questioned, wondering if he was imagining her.
Y/N’s gaze shifted up to Spencer and a grin spread across her face. She shuffled off his desk before striding over to him and wrapped him in a hug, to which Spencer returned.
“Why are you back?” Spencer mumbled into her shoulder, “You were meant to be with your family another week.”
“I know,” She said, “But they were sick of me moping around and talking about you the entire time.”
“How long have you been back?” Spencer questioned.
“I only got back this morning,” Y/N answered as the two began to sway slightly, “I’ve been sitting with Penelope in her office all day.”
Y/N moved back from the hug momentarily to place her forehead on Spencer’s. Heat rushed to Spencer’s face as her breath lightly fanned his face.
“And I had a very important conversation with her,” Y/N said, “And I think I might take her advice.”
“What advice is that-”
Y/N pressed her lips against Spencer’s, causing him to let out a quiet noise of surprise. However, just as quickly as she kissed him, she pulled away.
Both Y/N’s and Spencer’s eyes were closed for moments after, savouring the feeling of the others' lips on theirs. Spencer opened his eyes slowly, finding Y/N already looking at him. His gaze constantly shifted down to her lips before returning back to her eyes - Y/N’s doing the same. Earlier that day, Spencer wasn’t sure about his feelings for Y/N but at that moment, he had never been so sure of anything in his life.
“I’m sorry I did that, I just needed to-”
Spencer captured Y/N’s lips with his, hands moving to cup her cheeks and pull her even closer. The kiss was a lot more desperate than the one only moments prior. Teeth clashed together and Spencer was sure that both their lips would be swollen.
Y/N’s arms were still wrapped around Spencer’s shoulders but now her hands were running through his hair as they kissed, occasionally pulling at it which in turn caused Spencer to let out a quiet moan against her lips.
When Spencer eventually pulled away, Y/N let out a small whine as her lips chased after his, causing Spencer to smile.
“I think I love you.” Spencer muttered against Y/N’s lips.
“I think I love you too.” Y/N muttered with a smile.
Both of them let out a small chuckle before their lips pressed together once again, this time a lot more gentle and loving opposed to desperate and frantic.
“I’m glad that Penelope is keeping the team occupied,” Y/N muttered, “Otherwise this would’ve been really awkward.”
Spencer laughed before pressing his lips against her forehead, “I think her and Morgan planned this all out.”
“Of course they did,” Y/N said, “But I definitely think we should thank them.”
“Just not yet,” Spencer said, “Right now I want to go home and spend time with you.”
Y/N smiled, taking Spencer’s hand in hers, “Let’s go then, my love.”
Spencer looked at her like she was the only woman on earth, “I don’t think I’m ever going to get tired of hearing you say that.”

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
